Chapter 1263: Chapter 850: Standing at the Abyss_2
But the Night Watcher could take care of most people.
Especially the Night Watcher’s standard dry rations, they had become the most popular food on this layer of the Abyss Battlefield.
It was said that even the demons would sometimes try them and give an okay evaluation.
One could say it was extraordinarily remarkable.
This stuff also became a commodity that the Blood Pit Fortress continuously sold outward.
Even the Night Watchers internally didn’t know how the guys in the Alchemy Laboratory managed to create this stuff.
Apart from these, there were a few scattered stalls near the perimeter, operated by merchants from other far-off Blood War Fortresses, selling high-alcohol drinks, some unusual non-standard weapon components, or local delicacies—these were rare luxury items, not necessities.
The Abyss, after all, housed all kinds of races.
Not everyone was here for revenge.
Here was also the largest black market trading place in the entire Star Realm.
Remember, in the entire Star Realm.
One could imagine how exaggerated the dark dealings here were.
Some major black market trading places even resided within the Divine Kingdoms of the Abyssal Gods.
In this fortress where war and survival were the only themes, the only place remaining "bustling" was the tavern that was deliberately preserved and even reinforced.
It was built in a relatively stable corner, propped up with heavy rocks and metal beams.
The simple sign on the door read "Broken Spear Horn."
The noise inside roared, a heatwave carrying the smell of alcohol, sweat, and roasted meat greeted anyone entering.
The light was dim, with only the fireplace and a few alchemical lamps for illumination.
The guests here were exclusively warriors.
Avengers in worn armor laughed heartily as they recounted their recent fight with a tricky lava demon.
In the corner, a Night Watcher with a blood-stained bandage on his face silently wiped his blade.
At the bar, a burly man with a missing arm was steadily holding a large tankard with his shiny, streamlined, silver-white metal arm, clinking glasses with his newly met companions.
A few merchants from other fortresses mingled in the crowd, peddling their wares.
"Did you hear? That group of demons attempted to sneak past the southern gap of the fortress again yesterday, but Grey Fang Captain led a team and trapped them with a chain net!" An avenger with a stubbled face slapped the table, spitting as he talked.
"Humph, that ’Master of Ripping’ fled, which quieted things down for a while, but who knows what evil god might come next." His companion shook his glass, speaking with the numbness of a close call.
Compared to before, at least he would chat about something rather than being lifeless, only knowing how to kill.
If this continued, they avengers would eventually become what they despised most.
"The Venerables deal with evil gods; we just need to handle the filth on the ground." Another chimed in, his voice carrying a blind trust, "But that ’Iron Flower,’ every time it lights up, makes things feel much better, and those nagging voices from the Abyss quiet down a lot." Their discussions always revolved around the life-and-death battlefield in front of them.
Sitting around a table against the wall were several warriors in Night Watcher standard soft armor, their faces weary yet eyes still sharp.
Their conversation, though not loud, revealed deeper concerns, closely linked with the war reports shared over the channel.
A red-bearded warrior lowered his voice, "Just read an internal transmission; the pressure on the Ring Tower City side is intense. Hamilton’s defense walls are near collapse, they urgently need more personnel, and some Holy Light Crystals... those are particularly scarce now."
Holy Light Crystals, a product of the Night Watchers’ close binding with the Holy Light Church.
One could understand them as crystallized Holy Light Energy.
It’s not a container for the crystal but energy condensed into a crystal.
One could imagine the energy these crystals contained was monumental.
If that were all, they wouldn’t be so scarce.
The problem is they contain an element designed for the Void. Holy Light is inherently strong order energy, suppressing all things evil with great power.
The Void might not be purely evil, but it is a harbinger of destruction and is affected to some extent.
Plus, the trace power mixed within transforms the Holy Light into an energy capable of suppressing the Void.
Even for the Night Watchers, this wasn’t easy to produce.
At least not at this stage.
A younger warrior next to him furrowed his brow and added, "That’s not all. The coral reef direction lost contact briefly again. Though reconnaissance units have been deployed, no detailed feedback has arrived; I just fear that another spatial rift will suddenly erupt and spew tide demons like last time. We’re risking our lives at the front, but if we can’t hold down the home front..."
An older one-eyed Night Watcher with a faint scar on his face picked up a cup of bitter ale and sighed, "The most worrisome is the Iron Ridge Mountains over there. The rift growth has exceeded expectations, trapping the Night Patrol team deep in the fissure, requesting supplies to be airdropped...
"But the logistics center there, Hamilton, the Cyan Forest are all struggling, Alyris the Judge’s defense contraction order is to abandon many secondary outposts.
"Every time I see the border points on the battle report map disappear, it’s like a piece being carved out of my heart." The red-bearded warrior rubbed his brows, "I heard that over the past few years, Bobo has been secluded, reportedly brewing some grand plan... is it a secret weapon?"
He didn’t finish speaking, but the worried eyes said it all.
"Don’t worry too much, our power is more than enough; it’s just... we’ve been too greedy. After all, it’s the Void, and we can’t think we can save everything."
The one-eyed veteran’s voice steadied, sounding rational.
"We also must believe in the choices of Ring Tower City. The contraction is to accumulate strength and save more people. We are here to clear out the demon army to share the burden of our homeland.
"Just as the Judge said, the Night Watchers are the lighthouse; even when surrounded by darkness, we are the only light."
He glanced at the flickering, ever-refreshing stream of information on the channel, "The rear grits their teeth to hold, we must not collapse. Finish this drink and prepare to change shifts."
The tavern buzzed as always, but in the silent toasts of the Night Watchers and their worried gazes, the colossal pressure of the Abyss Battlefield and the urgent fires back home transformed into the bitter yet scalding liquor in their cups, downed in one gulp, before turning to the blood and fire at the front lines.
Blood Pit Fortress, this scarred new fortress, embedded in the flesh of the Abyss like a searing iron brand.
And the leader of the Night Watchers.
Kana stood on the tower, at the balcony edge.
"Aren’t you going to take a look?"
In the lounge behind, Abis flipped through some documents and asked.
After all, the entire focus of the Night Watchers was currently on the Vanguard Army.
Kana shook his head.
"As I said earlier, it’s just a small matter of the Vanguard Army, it’s fine."
"It seems there’s something more important in the Abyss that interests you, sir."
Karen asked curiously.
This question made everyone present turn to Kana.
Raelia trotted over to Kana’s back, tilting her head, curiously asking, "Is that so?"
Kana looked at her helplessly, using his hand to push Raelia’s head away.
"You could say that."
"The Divine Kingdom plan?"
"What else could it be if not that?"
"Speaking of which, how far has the Divine Kingdom plan progressed? After all, it’s been one or two years now, hasn’t it?"
Having stayed in the Abyss for so long, Raelia was beginning to lose track of time, she asked curiously.
She knew about the plan but hadn’t really followed it, only aware of the Iron Flower Structure above them now.
After all, when she was in charge of the Blood Pit Fortress alone before, it was quite troublesome.
At this moment, Abis suddenly covered her mouth and chuckled.
Raelia turned to look at her, eyes narrowing before suddenly slapping her forehead.
"Right, why are you all still here?"
