Chapter 1262: Chapter 850: Standing in the Abyss
The Abyss.
The Blood Battle Battlefield.
The sky of the Abyss is not a true sky, but a boundless, shattered curtain of Chaos, surging with twisted energies.
Eternal dim blood-red interwoven with weighty ink-black, like a dome of congealed filthy blood, presses heavily upon the earth.
This can be counted as one of the distinctive features of the Blood Battle Battlefield.
Perhaps under the influence of the ceaseless, bloody slaughter of war here, everything seems tinged with a trace of crimson, even the air you breathe carries a reek of blood.
As far as the eye can see, the land lies barren and scorched, with dried-up, purple-black "rivers" winding across it—those were once the channels where Demon blood surged; the air is thick with the sting of sulfur, the metallic tang of rusted blood, and an omnipresent Abyss Whisper that makes the mind quiver.
In the distance, warped spatial rifts gape like torn scars, greedily swallowing light, and from time to time vast, unnatural, grotesque Shadows writhe within.
This is the Abyss.
A corner of the 1121st layer battlefield of the near-endless planes of the Abyss, a hotbed of Chaos and destruction.
In such a desperate place, a fortress stands like a stubborn reef on the edge of the surging tides of Chaos—Blood Pit Fortress.
Built no more than a year or two ago, this steel bastion baptized in blood and fire is already etched everywhere with the marks of brutal battle.
The walls, forged from darkened Metal and abyssal black rock, are covered with claw marks, huge tear-shaped craters, charred plates burned out by some corrosive attack, and countless mottled traces from overlapping Chop of blades.
You can also see many repair marks upon them, as if layer after layer of protective cladding had been slapped on, patching the entire defensive wall in ugly seams.
Don’t be fooled by the look—this rough exterior is exactly what can stop those damned Demons.
In the Abyss, the kind of delicate Alchemy Protection once used by the Night Watcher is meaningless; rough-and-ready, practical and simple is the best approach.
This is the Abyss, where Chaos and brutality reign.
On one section of the wall, a huge tear-like scar is particularly striking—that is a wound left by the aftershock of a divine war.
It is a mark left by that Demon who held back a trump card, imbued with tearing Rules, firmly imprinted upon this wall.
Kana did not dispel the Rules on it; he simply left it there. Leaving it as a memento is fine enough—it doesn’t really have any effect anyway.
Of course, this was not his idea.
It was Raelia who thought that kind of torn scar looked rather nice, so it was left as it was.
Besides, this is not humiliation, but honor.
Let that damned Demon who only knew how to run remember its own disgrace, and the hidden hand it left here.
Atop the fortress, a grand, intricately structured device—the Iron Flower Structure—was steadily blooming with a pale golden radiance of Order, forming a gigantic semi-transparent dome that covered the Core Area of the fortress.
Its light was gentle yet unyielding, one of the few consolations upon this scorched wasteland.
If Blood Pit Fortress had not already been regarded as a thorn in the side of this layer of the Blood Battle Battlefield, then in the future many Warriors fighting in the Abyss would come here from time to time to rest, to feel once more the warmth of Order’s light shining down.
The existence of Blood Pit Fortress has made the overall ferocity of the Blood Battle Battlefield rise by several degrees.
Yet no one blames Blood Pit Fortress; on the contrary, they praise it, because this is a good thing.
It was the endless tug-of-war of the past that they truly despised.
Most of the Warriors who come to fight in the Abyss hope to see some change, some shift here—best of all, to seize this layer of the Abyss in one stroke.
The upheaval brought by Blood Pit Fortress is a good sign.
It means the Abyss has begun to grow impatient.
The fortress itself carries a rough, utilitarian air, its edges and corners sharp, devoid of any superfluous ornamentation—only practicality, and the weathered look of a place that has just endured a baptism of blood.
Letting the gaze pass over the walls, the interior of the fortress comes immediately into view.
There is no city-like clamor here, only the solemnity of war readiness.
The central castle command point is clearly visible, but what draws the eye even more are the mountains of supplies piled up within the fortress—there are so many that it is impossible not to notice.
Sealed ammunition crates of all kinds are stacked into high walls.
Bundles of neatly tied Energy Crystals glimmer faintly; heaps of standard-issue Night Watcher Armor await repair or redistribution; spare Crossbow Cannons components, engineering materials, Holy Light Crystal and more fill every planned open space.
This is only the sort of supplies that can be casually piled outside without being affected by the environment.
Somewhat more precious supplies are stored underground and in the surrounding workshops.
To boast a little.
Nearly half of the entire fortress’s area has been given over to storing all manner of supplies.
Without these supplies, Blood Pit Fortress could hardly stand firm upon this blood-soaked land.
Temporary rest shelters are scattered everywhere; tents and simple prefab huts stand in neat rows, where exhausted Warriors snatch brief moments of respite.
Unlike the long-established Blood War Fortress, there is almost no commercial atmosphere here.
At the supply distribution points, the Avengers and Night Watcher Warriors line up in orderly fashion to receive free food, clean water, and basic provisions—no trade required, everything is provided by the Night Watcher’s rigorous logistics.
Most importantly, the quality is good, and the taste is excellent.
In any case, many Warriors of other Races simply cannot figure out why some of the Night Watcher’s special foods are just so perfectly suited to them.
After all, this is the Abyss, where all sorts of Races from the Star Realm are gathered; the tastes of each Race can be said to be wildly diverse, and it is very hard to cater to everyone.
