Chapter 1296: Chapter 865: The Frontline_2
That place is a region long since corrupted by the Void, a place beyond recovery.
Looking towards the source of the sound, the plains have long changed their appearance.
The cracked fissures resemble hideous black scars, intersecting and deep as if bottomless.
These cracks are not natural, their edges sharp and twisted, continuously seeping thick, nauseatingly sweet-smelling dark purple energy liquid.
It’s the energy of the earth, turned into something repulsive and gushing forth.
The liquid drips onto the un-steamed areas of the ground, making sizzling corrosive sounds, forming clusters of fine purple crystals.
Purple, deep black, and even sickly green crystals grow like thorns, aggressively spreading.
They erode the ruins’ remnants.
Twisted, deformed steel bars are like tentacles encased in crystalline tumors, and the concrete debris is covered with a thick crystal shell, corners sparkling with eerie prismatic light.
A broken stone wall, mostly devoured by the writhing purple crystal veins, seems to be infected with a kind of petrified plague.
There might have been a fortress here once, but now, only this remains.
The crystal clusters are not static; they pulsate and grow almost indetectably, like living things breathing.
Besides the earth, the air seems polluted too, filled with a light purple mist.
Light pierces through this mist and the refractions of crystals, casting enigmatic and chaotic spots of light on the ground and broken walls.
There is no sound—except the distant roar of battle that reaches here, distorted into a low wail.
In the silence lies a suffocating sense of oppression and decay.
The breath of life is completely gone, leaving only the pure, cold beauty of destruction.
Suddenly!
Two terrifying pressures that freeze the marrow rise rapidly from the depths of two deep gorges inside the defensive line!
"Buzz—!!!" "Howl—!!!"
Accompanied by a low buzzing as if space itself is torn and a spiteful roar, two massive figures composed purely of twisted crystals slowly emerge from the purple-black fog of the gorge.
Suspending in mid-air, they brazenly emit legendary destruction waves.
The Crystalline Tyrant.
Its form resembles a massive mountain giant composed of countless large, irregular, rough dark purple, and gray-black crystal blocks crudely stacked together.
No distinct head, only three pairs of burning real purple flames, constantly rotating lozenge-shaped compound eyes glowing atop the "torso."
The limbs are twisted and deformed, with the left arm being a huge, spiky battering-ram-shaped crystal, while the right arm ends in a rip, extending dozens of tentacles like whips or knives, each shining with a space-cutting black light.
Its massive chest and abdomen feature a crystalline structure that continuously shatters and reassembles, emitting a continuous, teeth-gritting "crack" noise, with each fracture spraying sharp crystal fragments at high speed.
The other side, the other one.
The Twilight Weaver.
Its body is far more "slender" than the Crystalline Tyrant, yet it appears more bizarre.
The main body is composed of thousands of fine, hair-like, semi-transparent deep purple energy crystal threads, which continually entwine, weave, and disintegrate, changing its form in countless ways.
Sometimes it resembles a gigantic spider composed of light threads, sometimes it appears as a swaying, eye-filled crystal fog.
Instantly, it gathers into a spiral piercing purple spear.
It has no fixed core; the core seems dispersed among the countless crystal threads forming its body.
Silently, yet with each transformation, the surrounding purple mist and Void whispers abruptly intensify, making those who gaze at it feel bewildered.
The advent of these two legendary beings immediately sends all the Void creations on the battlefield into a complete frenzy!
Behind the defensive line.
In the makeshift steel command camp.
"Detected two energy peak values! Coordinates locked within the restricted zone!"
"Energy spectrum matching failed... not a known-numbered legendary!"
"Area environment readings are skyrocketing! Pollution concentration increased by three hundred percent!!"
"Void creatures’ activity parameters on the battlefield are soaring—breaking the alert red line!!!"
"Warning! High-intensity energy fields covering the war zone! Energy field levels... confirmed as two entities, independent, energy level reading confirmed! Level Eleven! Legendary Void Creatures!"
The operator is almost shouting out each data point.
The once relatively stable surveillance crystal screen instantly covered with glaring deep red over the core area of the defensive line, vast data streams refresh like a waterfall, and the sharp alarm sirens escalate the entire camp’s tension to the extreme.
"Holy Light above..." murmured a staff officer, looking at those two enormous red dots jumping within special marked frames on the light screen, face pale.
"Two... appearing simultaneously... right on the rift’s edge."
The previous pair were dealt with when they established the defensive line; the Level Eleven legendary powerhouse responsible for that is still burdened with a debuff.
Legendary Void creatures bring about wounds and contamination not easily shaken off, requiring time to cleanse.
"Head Strategist!"
The adjutant urgently looked at the old dwarf officer standing centrally, Rodrick Ironbeard.
"The Legendary Void Creatures designated as ’Crystalline Tyrant’ and ’Twilight Weaver’ are activating the enemies across the battlefield!"
Ironbeard’s face furrowed tightly, and the pipe clamped in his teeth had long since gone out.
His eyes, clouded by countless battles, were fixed on the two calamity red dots on the holographic map, and his calloused fingers tapped heavily on the tactical table.
"Orders! Night Watchers Level Ten on the frontline alert! High-value legendary targets have appeared in the core area of the defensive line! Lock them in!"
"Inform the Soul Guardian Squad, relay our intel and prepare them."
"Engage emergency plan ’Rock’, withdraw remote suppressive fire on the core area, avoid provoking the legendary."
"All peripheral units, strengthen defenses; under no circumstances allow more enemies to flood into the restricted zone, give the Soul Guardians room to operate."
"Notify all frontline squads, the legendary has emerged, and Void creatures are in overdrive state. Hold your ground, defend resolutely!"
"The Soul Guardians are to split into two groups, at all costs, pin them in the core zone. Do not let their battle impact the main defensive installations; let them exhaust in internal conflict."
Rodrick’s voice is hoarse and decisive, each order bearing a thousand pounds of weight.
Intelligence and tactics were instantly integrated and dispatched.
On the front line, at the storm center
On the city wall defense line, Adam and the others suddenly felt an unprecedented change.
After all, they had just arrived here, having not experienced the changes in Void creatures when legendary Void creatures appeared before, so they didn’t know what such a commotion meant regarding the enemy?
Fortunately, there were veterans around, so they weren’t entirely clueless.
The Void creatures just repelled seemed like they’d ingested alchemical enhancement potions, their eyes flaring with purple flames, their movements doubled in speed, utterly disregarding their own exhaustion, attacking blindly.
These Void creatures completely lost their minds, though they never had much in the way of brains to begin with.
Some originally lurking or newly formed Low-Level Void Creatures seemed rapidly catalyzed by an unseen force, instantly joining the onslaught.
The whispers in the air grew sharp and piercing, like billions of steel needles stabbing directly into the mind.
This assaulted the spirit, likewise amplified.
Even the experienced Night Watcher veterans faced a stress increase of several degrees.
Tokke’s arrows were wildly dodged and blocked; due to the mental strain, his attacks began to deviate.
Flying Squirrel’s shadow assault got repelled by acute perception, and just as Eva slayed one Clawed Beast, another roared and charged into her.
Pokanasha felt her Purification Domain being torn by countless invisible hands, wrecked by Void’s power.
Though they had the potential of becoming a Guardian Squad, they were not at that level yet.
"Damn those two big guys!"
Tokke bellowed, drawing his bow once more, a crossbow arrow howling through the core of a Frenzy Demon charging at the shield array.
"They’re making the trash go insane!" Flying Squirrel rolled awkwardly to dodge a suddenly emerging crystal spike from the ground.
"It’s like poking a cursed beehive!"
Pokanasha gritted her teeth, struggling to expand the Holy Light’s range, but her pale face showed the enormous drain.
Adam’s eyes flashed coldly, a scarlet glow gathering at his fingertips, "Maintain our output! They’re the source of the legendary suppression... the Soul Guardians will act!"
Just as the words left his mouth, two powerful, sharp wills rose from behind them, like two swords tearing through a storm.
