Chapter 1342: Chapter 887: Turning Point Has Arrived (Part 2)
After experiencing the atmosphere in the tavern and feeling the status of everyone, they drank a few glasses of wine and prepared to leave.
The Daniel Squad didn’t stay long in the tavern.
After replenishing fresh water and emergency rations, relying on their veteran team and frontline combat records, they successfully applied for a short-term defense permit at an observation post at the forefront of the defense zone, near the buffer area.
"Just you wait, you purple glass shards, I’m going to grind each and every one of you into powder with my axe,"
"Oh my, the war hasn’t started yet, and Daniel is already crazy."
"Who says he isn’t, he’s already started fantasizing."
"Shut up, don’t you want to do that too, damn it."
A group of people quarreled noisily.
However, things are not that simple, there are many people who want to go to the front line to take revenge.
Even those adventurers who had already received information through the channel within the fortress had applied to run over there.
These adventurers coming from the warship port were actually one step behind the first batch.
But it doesn’t matter, a major counterattack is about to begin, and everyone will sooner or later go to the front line, it’s just a matter of time.
So their application was quickly approved.
The group prepared their Land Birds, equipped themselves with the necessary protective gear, and arrived at the destination in less than an hour.
Stepping onto the defense walls made of prefabricated alloy plates, covered with marks of burning, corrosion, and massive impacts, Daniel took a deep breath and then spat disgustedly.
"Ah, back to this damned hellhole again, the air here stinks enough to make me puke."
"To make a Beastman puke, that’s quite an achievement."
"Damn you, are you mocking me?"
"I am not, I’m just stating a fact."
The adventurer squad passing by laughed heartily. But everyone was familiar; this kind of teasing was already their daily routine. But soon everyone fell silent, feeling the atmosphere here.
The familiar and heavy pressure surged in again, but mixed with a new kind of eagerness.
On the defense belt, the Night Watcher’s engineering team was racing against time to repair the gap created by a wave of "Bone-eating Burrowers" and "Crystal Cluster Slingers" mixed charge last night.
The welding gun spewed out dazzling blue-white flames, and the reinforcement beams were embedded into the damaged area amid the hiss of hydraulic devices.
Elsewhere, they had long been quickly repaired through magic devices, but not here. It will have to make do and patch it up anyway, as it would quickly get wrecked again next time.
The automatic Magic Energy Cannons responsible for this area were vigilantly rotating their barrels, with ghostly blue energy light flowing inside the barrels, ready to unleash deadly energy beams at any enemy daring to approach.
Some cannon bases showed signs of having been recast, and the barrels also bore new scratches and scorch marks.
Further away, several "City-Eroder" heavy armor-piercing crossbow cannons requiring manual operation were mounted at reinforced shooting positions, and operators carefully inspected the gigantic armor-piercing cones gleaming with cold light.
Everyone was preparing for war.
"There are so many more people."
"Huff..." Daniel deeply inhaled a blend of metal cooling scent, gunpowder smoke, and a faint whiff of blood and rot as he walked to the battlement front. "Leah, Eagle Eye!"
Ascending the wall, everyone became serious.
Elf Mage Leah silently chanted a spell, her fingertips tracing intricate trajectories in the air, and a soft green glow enveloped her eyes.
Next to her, Daniel, Fercheck, and Marsha also felt their vision suddenly elongate and clear, and the distant blurry scene rushed into view.
The scene was unsettling, yet carried a strange sense of "order."
The buffer area like a meat grinder, the vast valley visible to the eye was no longer the way of Nature.
The land, struck repeatedly by energy impacts and soaked with flesh and blood, had become a ragged carpet of deep brown and foul purple intertwined.
Everywhere were huge pits, scorched overturned soil, broken peculiar plants, and indescribable biological remains.
The air seemed filled with an invisible scent of blood and madness.
The local monsters’ insane counterattack, with swarms of frenzied "Sharptooth Rock Hounds" surging forth like a brown tide, recklessly charging at a small band of twisted "Void Hunters" covered in purple crystal clusters.
Further away, several enormous "Earth-shaking Rock Armor Beasts" roared, using their thick rock-armored bodies to violently collide with clusters formed by purple-black energy tentacles and sharp crystal spikes.
Their targets were indiscriminate, overflowing with pure hatred for all outsiders and agents of order.
The Void Creatures’ erosion and expansion, those purple-black monsters occupied more advantageous positions.
Their movements carried an unsettling sticky sensation and an audio frequency hum of mental pollution.
Besides the standard "Rift Hunters" and "Void Claw Beasts," the most eye-catching were those that were clearly "transformed" beings:
Infected Rock Armor Beast, a slightly smaller Rock Armor Beast whose half-body was covered in wriggling purple-black crystal clusters, the originally thick rock armor eroded and sprouted sharp purple crystal spikes, acting frenziedly and painfully being encircled and bitten by several intact mates.
Crystalized Core-boring Bug, originally acid-spewing, ground-drilling "Core-boring Bugs," their shell gaps and mouth organs emitted ominous purple light, the acid they spewed now carried eerie purple-black coloration, besieging a small adventurer team trying to establish a temporary position, with distant flashes of spell light and explosions visible.
A blurry shadow darting rapidly in the shadow, yet its body flickered with unstable purple spots, evidently eroded, becoming even more dangerous. It seemed to be a leopard-like creature originally residing in this domain.
Beneath the defense walls and on the side wings, utilizing sparse rocks and abandoned fortifications, one could see many squads in Night Watcher standard equipment or mercenary attire cautiously clearing solitary demons or small groups of Void Creatures leaning near the defense line.
Their actions were swift and efficient, clearly using this rare "gap period" brought by local monster strikes to sweep the battlefield, consolidate the defense line, repair traps.
A squad had just used firebombs and heavy crossbows to vanquish several "Acid-devouring Bugs" trying to stealthily approach from the side.
Though the atmosphere remained tense, it no longer had the relentless, despair-inducing tide-like assault; each person was taut yet filled with a feeling of stored potential waiting to be unleashed.
The occasional communication channel broadcast no longer contained urgent help requests but rather concise coordinate reports and region clearing confirmations.
In the distance, amidst layers of obscurity, glimpses of "Void Rift" like festering sores on the ground emitted unsettlingly twisting purple-black glows beneath dimly lit twilight.
Newly varied Void Creatures continuously clawed out from within or around space rifts, merging into the chaotic battlefield below.
But now, viewing it through the eyes of adventurers, there was not only solemnity and despair but more burning fervor—they knew the thing to block that "purple pustule" was about to arrive, already on its way!
"Do you see it?" Daniel’s voice grew serious, low and full of Power.
He pointed to those busily cleaning the battlefield below, eyes equally burning, the Night Watchers and adventurers; then pointed towards that loathsome Gate of Void.
"Those purple-skinned bastards won’t be leaping around much longer! Once that tower arrives, we’ll charge out and smash them back into their filthy pit where they belong! This rage built up these past six months can finally vent completely!"
He roared gnashing his teeth as it seemed he had endured quite a lot.
His rough large hand tightened again around the axe handle, his knuckles white from gripping tightly, eyes locked on the tumultuous battlefield as if already seeing the Light of Order tearing through the purple-black clouds.
Fercheck licked his slightly cracked lips, eyes flashing with excitement; Marsha silently nocked an Armor-Piercing Arrow onto the string.
Leah maintained the Eagle Eye Spell, calmly observing the gathering areas of Void Creatures, searching for potential weak points.
The brief calm before the storm, filled with a blaze called "revenge."
Steel Broken Cliff is about to meet its fate’s turning point.
