Chapter 143: Chapter 48: [Demon Insect Larva and Bell-Ringing Reaper]

"Of course there are," the Scythe Corpse Demon in tattered chain armor replied. "Only exceptional souls filled with agony at the time of death are cast away here with hatred, doomed to suffer eternal torment from the living until their tasks are fulfilled. Do you understand nothing?"

"Thank you for your answer," Samael said softly.

"Come on, join me." The chain-armored Scythe Corpse Demon planted its massive Nether Copper Scythe into the ground aside, leaving its hands empty to show friendliness. "We can cooperate and defeat the other Ghost Knights—Anshiba, Dekegon, Xin Zilao, Pulangti, and Locking Technique—we can join forces, my friend!"

It extended a half-clawed palm made of rotting flesh and bone. The Nether Copper Hand Armor, mixed with rotting meat, opened toward Samael in a friendly gesture for a handshake.

"Lahador. I am Lahador," the Chain Armor Corpse Demon introduced itself mildly.

Samael remained silent, slowly planting the Nether Copper Knight Sword in his right hand into the ground beside him.

The Nether Copper Chain at his waist twitched. Talia tugged at him, trying to stop him.

But his hand armor waved behind his back as he continued toward Lahador, the elite Scythe Corpse Demon.

"Samael. You may call me Samael." He slowly grasped the Chain Armor Corpse Demon’s Nether Copper Hand Armor, which was entwined with rotting flesh.

The chain armor emitted a faint rustling sound.

The moment a bizarre sound of flesh tearing through the air rang out, he abruptly raised the Nether Copper Kite Shield he had prepared in his left hand.

CLANG CLANG CLANG CLANG CLANG! Amidst a dense flurry of frenzied slashing sounds, Samael retreated rapidly. His Nether Copper Kite Shield had already been hacked into jagged pieces!

In the instant they shook hands, the Nether Copper Lock Armor Corpse Demon had thrown off the tattered chain armor covering its chest. Dozens of thick, fleshy tendrils burst from its body, thrashing wildly at Samael. The end of each tendril was embedded with a sharp Nether Copper Blade!

"You speak half-truths. First, you claimed you didn’t know how many Ghost Knights there were, but then you listed the names of the other five knights one by one." Samael raised his left hand, using his remaining stored Nether Copper to forge another Nether Copper Kite Shield.

"Your attitude changed the moment you found out I had met Anshiba with the Deer Antler Frog Beak Helmet. You weren’t sure who I would choose to ally with, and judging by your words, Anshiba’s forces are stronger than yours. So, you planned to use this elite unit with implants to kill me before I could form an alliance with Anshiba." His right hand pulled the Nether Copper Knight Sword from the ground beside him.

"Just testing you... You really have no sincerity. I thought you genuinely wanted to ally with me." The Chain Armor Corpse Demon chuckled, slowly extending its rotting claws to pick up the scythe nearby.

The next second, a Nether Copper Chain wrapped around the scythe’s handle. The heavy impact of [Lion Hunting Gladiator] knocked the Corpse Demon to the ground. With a clean and decisive [Drop Kill], the Knight Sword severed its neck along with half of its Locking Armor Veil.

Samael grabbed the Collins Owl Helmet and held it in his hand.

"Are you really not going to join me?" Lahador’s voice still echoed within the empty Collins Owl Helmet, even though his true body was much further away. "We can destroy this world together and kill all the living—Samael! My good friend! Come on! It was just a little joke, can’t you take a joke?"

"I prefer creation over destruction." Samael pressed his palm against the Collins-style Helmet, melting it down into a puddle of Nether Copper.

Lahador’s voice vanished.

Samael raised his head, quietly exchanging a look with Talia.

...

The outskirts of the Heart of the Remains, Exile Camp.

"That is roughly the situation," Samael concluded his account.

"If everyone can accept that the Heart of the Remains has six of my companions, then let’s begin building the Underground City here," he said mildly.

"Everything is pretty good." He picked up a wriggling, plump Demon Insect larva. "It’s just that the Necromancer Civil War here might cause signal conflicts... True combat power will likely rely entirely on elite units with implants.

"I apologize. I once promised you all a better home, but it seems this place falls short of my expectations. There may be many hardships ahead. I promise to do my best to make up for this discrepancy. However, if you are dissatisfied, I completely understand. I will not force anyone."

He looked at the Exiles before him.

Old Duke burst into laughter.

"There are no easy things in this world, and even if there were, they wouldn’t be our turn. We’ve long been accustomed to hardship; it is an indispensable part of our lives." He smiled. "If a difficult journey could scare off the Exiles, we would have been scared to death right where we started."

"When do we start construction?" Yaki asked. "The Underground City won’t build itself."

"Can we start working?" Another Demon Race architect stroked the Demon Insect larva.

"Anytime," Samael and Talia nodded.

"Build! Build! Build our new home!" the Exiles shouted in unison.
