Chapter 137: Chapter 137: A Man’s Scattered Points of Excellence
"Er Pang’s dad, be careful."
Jiang Fan grabbed Er Pang’s father, who was about to charge off, and pulled him back.
"What’s wrong?"
Er Pang’s father looked at him in confusion, and even the other parents stopped in their tracks.
"Don’t rush. The forest is huge. We need to split into pairs to stay safe."
Jiang Fan said.
"Okay."
"We’ll take the east."
"We’ll go to the right."
"We’ll take the left."
Thanks to Jiang Fan’s calm and steady demeanor, the parents and teachers accepted his words without question.
They immediately split into pairs and formed a semi-circular cordon, heading into the forest and shouting as they went.
...
Meanwhile, the three men who had just run into the forest heard the shouts.
They were visibly on edge. The creep among them was holding a small child.
A closer look revealed it was Er Pang.
"Dammit, how did they find us so fast?"
Scarface couldn’t help but curse under his breath.
To avoid detection, they had moved slowly just moments before.
They’d just made it into the forest and were about to breathe a sigh of relief. The world was their oyster, and mountains of cash were waiting for them.
But somehow, these people had caught up to them.
And they were heading right for them.
"Boss, what do we do now?"
Shorty’s expression was laced with panic.
"What the hell are you panicking for? We have the kid. We’re the ones in control."
"Besides, this forest is huge. We cased it beforehand, so we know it way better than they do."
"Once we get to Tiger Leaping Cliff, we can get right out of here. They’ll never find us."
Scarface made a snap decision, scooped up Sun Er Pang, and took off running.
Shorty and the creep exchanged a look, gritted their teeth, and hurried to keep up.
As they ran, Shorty wasn’t watching his step and blundered onto a large patch of dead leaves and twigs.
The next second, the world spun around him. A wave of vertigo hit him so hard he threw up with a GAG.
The commotion startled the other two, who were focused on running.
"How the hell is there a trap here?!"
Scarface’s face was a mask of disbelief. They had taken this exact path when they scouted the area, and there was nothing here then.
"Boss, help me! Boss!"
"What are you gawking at? Get the knife and cut the rope! Get him down!"
"You useless piece of crap! You’re more trouble than you’re worth!"
Scarface cursed, looking at his pathetic, sniveling subordinate.
SWOOSH!
The next second, the creep, who was moving forward with a dagger to cut the rope, was also flung into the air.
CLANG.
The dagger landed on a rock with a loud sound.
"How is there another trap here?!"
Scarface was on the verge of a breakdown. His brain felt like it was short-circuiting.
"Boss, save us!"
"What son of a bitch made these traps so damn strong? I can’t break free."
The creep shouted as he thrashed around, trying to break the rope with sheer force, but it was no use.
"Shut the hell up! You’re going to draw them right to us!"
Scarface slapped the creep across the face with the back of his hand.
"But Boss, you’ve got to save us."
Hearing the shouts getting closer, all three of them began to panic.
Scarface gritted his teeth. He really wanted to just grab the kid and run.
But these two idiots... one was his cousin, and the other was a brother-in-crime who’d been with him on the run for years.
It wasn’t that he was a man of honor. The problem was, these two knew all his secrets.
If they got caught, he’d be finished too.
"Boss, if you cut the rope from behind the tree,"
"we’ll be able to get down."
Just then, as if discovering a new continent, Shorty pointed to the rope behind the tree trunk.
Scarface looked up, his face lighting up with joy.
He quickly put Er Pang down and walked over.
SWOOSH!
The moment he got near the tree, he too was sent flying into the air.
The atmosphere suddenly became incredibly bizarre.
Who would have thought to set a trap right next to the tree? Was it just to stop someone from cutting the rope?
’And who sets a trap using this kind of climbing rope?’
Scarface wanted to scream. This kind of rope was ridiculously expensive. Even if you caught two wild boars in this forest, they probably wouldn’t be worth as much as the rope.
The only silver lining was that he hadn’t dropped his dagger.
He quickly curled his body to cut the rope around his foot.
"There’s a noise over there!"
"Wow, did our trap catch a big tiger?"
Mengmeng’s innocent voice reached everyone’s ears.
The group picked up their pace and quickly arrived at the spot where Mengmeng had set her traps.
When they arrived and saw the scene before them, every single person’s jaw dropped...
The three men froze, staring at the group of people who had just appeared before them.
"Er Pang! Er Pang is here!"
From a distance, Er Pang’s father saw his son and charged over like a madman.
He gathered his son into his arms but found that no matter how he shook him, the boy wouldn’t wake up.
"Er Pang, what’s wrong? Wake up! Don’t scare me like this!"
There was a sob in Er Pang’s father’s voice.
Jiang Fan stepped forward and patted his shoulder. "Let me take a look."
"Calm down. Everyone, keep an eye on these three."
"Don’t let them get away."
After giving the instructions, he checked Sun Er Pang’s eyelids and then his pulse.
"It’s nothing serious," he said. "You don’t need to worry."
"They just knocked him out. He inhaled a bit of knockout gas, that’s all. It won’t cause any lasting harm."
"Really? Mengmeng’s dad, are you a doctor?"
Er Pang’s father was clearly skeptical.
"It’s a family tradition. Go back a few generations, and my ancestors were the emperor’s personal physicians."
Jiang Fan told a white lie to put the man’s mind at ease.
Hearing this, Er Pang’s father finally breathed a sigh of relief.
