Chapter 191: Chapter 191: The Strong-willed Li Muwan

"Consider it? I think I’m doing just fine right now."

"You only live once. Isn’t being happy what matters most?"

"The most important thing is to do something meaningful, to leave your mark. I think you’re amazing, Grandma. You’ve always been my idol and role model."

"I want to be like you."

Li Qian’Er held the Director’s hand, speaking in a very, very soft voice.

"But that life is too hard, too exhausting. For a young woman like you... there’s really no need."

"But Grandma, if an infant were abandoned at the orphanage gates right now, would you take care of them? Would you take them in?"

Li Qian’Er’s question silenced the Director.

"See? You’d never ignore them, and neither would I."

In truth, she had already made up her mind long ago. Even after the Director passed away, she would take over and continue running the orphanage well.

No matter how hard or tiring the process might be.

By the time the workers had assembled all the playground equipment and unloaded everything, the sun had set, leaving only the last sliver of twilight on the horizon.

Yin Ruxue took out her phone and sent a message to Jiang Fan, telling him to bring the children out.

After checking his phone, Jiang Fan clapped his hands, drawing the attention of all the children.

"Alright everyone, all eyes on me! Follow me. I have a big surprise for you."

"Daddy, what’s the surprise?"

Mengmeng was the first to ask.

"Jiang, what’s the surprise?"

"Jiang, hurry up and tell us."

"Stop pestering Jiang. Let’s go outside and see."

"I see a huge playground!"

One of the faster children had already run to the door and was looking out at the yard.

That one sentence sent the room into an uproar.

Countless children swarmed outside.

Only Jiang Fan was left behind, lost in thought, but he still followed them out to the yard.

The children’s chattering gasps, shrieks, and all sorts of joyful laughter filled the air.

It was noisy, but a smile graced Yin Ruxue’s lips.

"What are you thinking about? Why the long face?"

Yin Ruxue asked curiously, looking at the silent Jiang Fan beside her.

"Well..."

"Mengmeng calls me ’Daddy,’ then the others call her ’Big Sister Mengmeng,’ but then they call me ’Jiang’..."

’My brain is about to short-circuit. How did the relationships get so tangled?’

"Pfft."

Yin Ruxue couldn’t help but let out a laugh.

"Why are you getting hung up on that? They’re just kids. Let them call people whatever they want."

"I’m just noticing it now, too. They call the Director ’Grandma,’ and they call Qian’Er ’Auntie Qian’er.’"

Jiang Fan shook his head. "I’ll have to sort them out later."

Even Yin Ruxue couldn’t help but find it funny as she ran through the web of relationships in her head.

"Will it be alright to leave these out in the open like this?"

His earlier worries vanished as he watched the children play so happily.

"No problem. They’re all made of fully waterproof materials."

"This factory’s products are guaranteed. I was just leveraging the situation earlier to get a longer warranty and some more toys."

"So you weren’t really angry earlier."

Jiang Fan smacked his forehead.

Yin Ruxue’s act had been too convincing.

"If I got angry over little things like that, I’d probably die of anger at work every day. But it’s true that I hate people who are late."

It suddenly dawned on Jiang Fan. No wonder that incident happened the first time he was late.

Having so many new, fun toys for the first time, the children had the time of their lives. They played until dinnertime, and even then, few of them came back on their own. The Director had to call them back one by one.

The night passed in the blink of an eye. The children slept soundly, and so did Jiang Fan and Yin Ruxue.

However, both of them, without planning it, got up several times during the night to check on Mengmeng, only to find her sleeping exceptionally soundly among the other children.

She didn’t seem the least bit out of place.

After breakfast the next morning, Jiang Fan took Mengmeng to school, while Yin Ruxue returned to her company to handle business.

After dropping Mengmeng off at school, Jiang Fan swung by his company. Seeing there was nothing for him to do, he quietly went home.

’If I don’t skip work now, when will I?’

Of course, he would never admit he only ran off because he saw Su Qingci looking for him everywhere at the company.

Just as he reached his floor, Jiang Fan noticed Li Muwan’s door was ajar.

He pushed the door open and peeked his head in but didn’t see Li Muwan anywhere.

’How strange. She’s not home, and she’s not at the company. She’s so careless, though.’

’If something gets stolen, she’ll be crying her eyes out.’

Muttering to himself, he casually closed the door for her.

"What are you doing?!"

An exclamation came from behind him. Jiang Fan turned to see Li Muwan standing there in her pajamas, looking stunned. They just stared at each other, wide-eyed.

"Why did you close my door?"

"I just stepped out to take out the trash!!"

Li Muwan glared at him.

"I thought you weren’t home... I didn’t see anyone, so I just closed it for you."

"Besides, you didn’t go to work today. I thought you were out meeting a client."

"Get lost!!"

Li Muwan was furious.

"Hurry up and open the door for me! I have food cooking in the kitchen!!"

"I... Food cooking? You...??"

Those few words shocked him twice.

Seeing his expression, Li Muwan’s cheeks flushed slightly.

"Is it a crime for me to learn?"

"Never mind that for now, just open the door!!!"

"The key... do you have a spare key?"

Jiang Fan said hurriedly.

"A spare... spare..."

"I think there’s one in your apartment..."

"Why would your key be in my apartment?"

"You... Don’t worry about it! Just hurry up and open your door so I can get the key."

"What if the kitchen catches fire?"

Hearing this, Jiang Fan fumbled to open his door.

"Where did you put the key?"

Li Muwan pulled a key out from under the shoe cabinet next to the door.

She unlocked her door and rushed into the kitchen.

"What is all this nonsense."

He muttered as he followed her inside.

The moment he stepped inside, he saw two plates of something black and burnt on the dining table.

And Li Muwan, flustered and fumbling in the kitchen.

"You have nothing better to do, so you decide to learn how to cook?"

"Is this really a place you should be entering?"

Jiang Fan remarked with a sigh, leaning against the kitchen doorframe.

"None of your business! I’m going to do it, and I can make delicious food, too. I won’t be worse than anyone else, alright?!"

"Huh? Who are you competing with?"

Jiang Fan scratched his head after hearing her out.
