Chapter 200: Chapter 200: Task

"How much?! Fifty thousand?!"

Jiang Fan even stammered.

"That’s right. I happen to have a suitable candidate in mind. While they’re not quite as capable as you, they’re close enough."

"How about this? I’ll just call and rescind the appointment right now."

Just as Li Muwan pulled out her phone, Jiang Fan snatched it away. "Let’s talk this over! It’s just the manager of the Planning Department, right? I can do it!!!"

"Oh? You’re not going to think it over anymore?"

A cold smirk touched Li Muwan’s lips as she watched Jiang Fan’s shameless display.

"You can have a problem with anything, but never with money!"

"You can’t let pride get in the way of money, right?"

"Then it’s settled. Now get out of my office!"

Li Muwan pointed a finger toward the door.

"Hold on, hold on. What I’m curious about is, why the sudden large-scale investigation?"

Jiang Fan finally voiced the question that had been nagging him.

In his opinion, it was perfectly normal for a company to have a few moles or spies.

Even a bit of embezzlement and bribery was to be expected. After all, in this day and age, you couldn’t expect everyone to be a saint.

But an investigation on this scale... it was as if they already knew who they were looking for.

"For this, we actually have Yanzi to thank."

Li Muwan sat down and sighed.

"Huh?"

Jiang Fan put on a perfectly surprised expression.

"Her recent hospitalization meant she couldn’t complete a lot of her work handovers. So, I had her coordinate directly with the eight teams in the Sales Department."

"She was coordinating on everything, from regular duties to various projects. But once she was done, she realized something was off."

"The deficits across various projects were staggering!"

Jiang Fan nodded. "And then?"

"And then we found them."

"If it weren’t for her, we might never have found out. The company would have definitely suffered massive financial losses."

"So that’s how it was."

"Don’t tell me you started setting this trap a long time ago?"

Jiang Fan suddenly remembered what she had said at home the day before.

"You catch on quick. Since they wanted me out of the company, I figured I’d give them the opportunity they were looking for."

"Wow, wow, wow. When it comes to scheming, you people are in a league of your own. You play so dirty!"

Jiang Fan couldn’t help but give her a thumbs-up in admiration.

"For a second there, I couldn’t tell if you were praising me or insulting me."

Li Muwan rolled her eyes at him.

Only then did Jiang Fan truly understand. Everything was part of her plan.

He now suspected that Yin Ruxue and Li Muwan had put on an act, a show meant for everyone else.

The goal was to drag these bad apples out into the open for all to see. ℯℯ𝘭.

"By the way, since you’re staying, as the new manager of the Planning Department, I have a task for you."

As Jiang Fan was trying to puzzle out all the twists and turns of the plot, Li Muwan suddenly turned to him.

"I’ve just been appointed. How about you tell me later?"

Jiang Fan had a sharp sense this task was bad news and instinctively wanted to refuse.

But Li Muwan wasn’t about to give him that chance.

"The National Day Golden Week is coming up. All of our stores and our partner flagship stores need to run a promotion."

"I need you to come up with a proposal. And remember, this campaign is nationwide."

"Every single one of our stores will be using it."

Hearing this, Jiang Fan laughed in exasperation.

"So you’re just going to dump this huge mess on me right from the start?"

"There’s less than half a month left. You tell me... how am I supposed to get this done?"

"And it’s nationwide, too. Should I also factor in the Fengming Group while I’m at it?"

"After all, we screwed them over once before. We’ve got to be on guard so they don’t screw us over in return, right?"

Jiang Fan said irritably.

"You know, that’s actually a very thorough point."

"Then go ahead and factor that into your plan."

It was as if Li Muwan had selective hearing, only picking up on what she wanted to.

Then she waved a dismissive hand at Jiang Fan. "Hurry up and go. I have work to do."

"And another thing. Stop being such a player. It’s best if you don’t bring your private life into the company."

As if remembering something, she, who had already sat down and picked up her pen to start working, suddenly looked up at Jiang Fan and spoke.

"What, do you live by the sea? You’re sticking your nose in everything! You call me a player? Then why’d you slap me yesterday?"

"I worked my ass off teaching you how to cook. Did I do something wrong?"

At this point, Jiang Fan didn’t even want to deal with her.

What he needed to do now was hurry back to the Planning Department and see how previous corporate proposals were put together.

He was completely clueless about this stuff, and he knew it. The last two times, he had just gotten lucky.

"You!"

Li Muwan frowned and glared at him, but before she could get a word out, Jiang Fan had already left the office.

"Manager Jiang, congratulations!"

"Manager, you’ll have to take care of us from now on."

"Manager Jiang, please look out for us in the future."

...

The moment he stepped out of the office, people all over the workspace were smiling and greeting him.

Jiang Fan had always been popular, but now that he was in a high position, even more people were eager to get on his good side and cozy up to him.

Countless women batted their eyelashes at him, some even coming right up to him and taking his hand.

Jiang Fan broke out of the circle of women as fast as he could.

’This is terrifying! If you want to talk, just talk! Why are you sticking your hands inside my clothes?!’

’Shouldn’t you be a little more discreet in public? Can’t we do this in private?!’

Arriving at the entrance to the Planning Department, Jiang Fan quickly shook the distracting thoughts from his mind, then pushed the door open and walked in.

The entire Planning Department was now a ship without a captain. Many people sat at their desks, their faces etched with worry.

When they saw Jiang Fan arrive, it was as if they had spotted a lighthouse in a storm.

"Manager Jiang!"

"Manager Jiang, have some coffee."

"Why drink coffee? I have some excellent black tea right here. I’ve already brewed it for you, Manager Jiang."

"Manager Jiang, what’s the next step for the Planning Department?"

Jiang Fan was thoroughly enjoying the thrill that came with power.

He didn’t talk about work at all until lunchtime. Instead, he spent the morning "building rapport" with the original long-term employees of the department.

By noon, he hadn’t even said a word about food, and someone had already bought him lunch.

They even refused to take his money for it.

’It really makes you think,’ he mused, ’sometimes power is more useful than money.’

"Alright everyone, you don’t have to stare at me so eagerly. I know what you’re thinking."

Jiang Fan said, shoveling food into his mouth as he sat at his desk.
