Chapter 201: Chapter 201: Hungry and Thirsty

"The benefits and salaries for the entire Planning Department will not change."

"However, there’s one condition: you all must work hard and get rid of all the bad habits you had before."

"Can you all do that?"

The fifteen employees below nodded in agreement without hesitation.

You have to understand, the salaries, bonuses, and benefits in the Planning Department were the best in the entire company.

They might not have been the highest, but the job was certainly the most comfortable and the perks were the best.

But with what happened to their own boss—who was very likely a spy sent by the competition—it would have been perfectly reasonable for the company to cut their bonuses and benefits as a result.

But when you come to work, isn’t everyone in it for the money?

That kind of baseless business had nothing to do with them, so of course, they didn’t want to get caught in the crossfire.

"Don’t worry, Jiang. We can definitely do it."

"Before, whenever we came up with proposals, Manager Qian would never let us pursue them."

"He’d just tell us to use the old templates."

"Yeah, I once said I needed to do some market research to write a better proposal, and he just told me not to bother."

"So, eventually, we all just started slacking off."

"After all, he’d take the fall for anything that went wrong."

...

As the employees chimed in one after another, Jiang Fan pieced together a rough picture of what the Planning Department used to be like.

To put it bluntly, it wasn’t that they weren’t capable, nor that they weren’t dedicated.

It was that their leader was a complete idiot.

Later, when they realized there was no difference in pay whether they worked hard or not, who would bother trying?

"It’s good that you feel this way. As long as we can produce results, I will apply to the company for more bonuses and benefits in the future."

"I’ll fight to take things to the next level for you."

"But we have a major event coming up, and I’ll need everyone to work hard for a while."

"National Day is in half a month, and the company needs to hold an event to coincide with it."

"Although we achieved a landslide victory against Fengming Group in the Celestial Dragon District, we’re still the weaker party overall."

"Fengming Group’s national presence is much larger than Xuerong’s, and now, we’ve well and truly made an enemy of them."

"On one hand, we need to be on guard for any of their dirty tricks. On the other, we absolutely have to nail this event."

"So, are you all confident?"

"As long as we pull off this event, I guarantee you’ll get bonuses so big your hands will cramp from counting them."

He paused after saying this, then continued, "After all, this is my first day in this position. If there’s anything I do poorly, I hope you’ll all forgive me."

"Everything else is negotiable, but work must be completed without fail. Otherwise, don’t blame me for getting tough."

Everything he’d said up to that point was just to set up that final sentence.

The carrot, then the stick!

"If there’s nothing else, you’re all free for the afternoon. Relax if you want, work if you want."

Jiang Fan waved his hand. The employees looked at each other, and a collective sense of relief washed over them.

They walked out of Jiang Fan’s office with smiles on their faces.

Because they had gotten what they wanted from Jiang Fan.

After eating lunch, Jiang Fan started looking through the Planning Department’s past proposals and all the various materials they had collected.

There were successful case studies of events held by major corporations, as well as various detailed procedures.

Everything was even neatly categorized and placed in a cabinet at the back of the office.

’This old bastard couldn’t really be a damn spy, could he?’

Jiang Fan muttered to himself as he looked at the cabinet, which showed no signs of ever having been opened.

Because with all this material, even if he had just copied it with minor changes for an event, it shouldn’t have turned out so badly.

But he knew that wasn’t for him to worry about right now. The follow-up investigation would make things clear. What he needed to do was absorb as much of this knowledge as possible and enrich himself!

Jiang Fan was like a sponge, greedily soaking up all the information.

By the time he looked up again, the sky had already grown dark.

He picked up his phone and saw a message from Sun Yanzi.

She had to meet a client tonight and wasn’t sure how late she’d be, so she told Jiang Fan to go home first and get something to eat.

’I really should head back. My back is killing me from sitting so long.’ He casually grabbed two proposals he hadn’t finished reading.

He walked out of the company’s main entrance, recalling what he had learned that afternoon.

But when he reached his car, he found Su Qingci standing in front of it, waiting for him.

Seeing this woman gave Jiang Fan a headache.

’He was really getting sick of this.’

He ignored her completely, took out his keys to unlock the car, and opened the driver’s side door to get in.

But to his surprise, the next second, Su Qingci pulled open the passenger door and got in.

"What are you doing? Get out!"

Jiang Fan glared at her, his brow tightly furrowed.

But Su Qingci didn’t say a word. She sat in the passenger seat, buckled her seatbelt, and stared intently at Jiang Fan.

"Heh."

Her stare was so intense it made Jiang Fan laugh in disbelief.

"Is there something wrong with you? Do you want me to take you to see a neurologist?"

"You were so talkative this morning, weren’t you? So good at cursing people out? Why are you mute all of a sudden?"

But Su Qingci still ignored him.

After a moment’s hesitation, Jiang Fan unbuckled his seatbelt, got out, and slammed the door shut in one smooth motion.

’He could just leave the car at the office, couldn’t he? He could just take a cab home, couldn’t he?’

But to his surprise, Su Qingci got out of the car too and started following him.

Jiang Fan didn’t say another word and just let her follow.

After a slight hesitation, Jiang Fan set his destination in the rideshare app as Yin Ruxue’s villa.

’After what happened before, Jiang Fan didn’t believe she would still have the gall to face Yin Ruxue.’

Sure enough, after they got in the cab, Su Qingci’s expression grew uglier and uglier as they got closer to the villa.

"Driver, stop the car!"

She finally spoke just as they were about to arrive.

An imperceptible smile touched the corner of Jiang Fan’s mouth.

The driver was a bit stunned but still pulled the car over to the side of the road.

Su Qingci opened the car door and got out. "I won’t give up. And I won’t take back what I said."

"You really don’t deserve her."

But Jiang Fan just rolled his eyes, leaned back comfortably, and said, "Driver, let’s go."

This complete disregard was what frustrated Su Qingci the most!

’When had the great eldest daughter of the Su Family, a woman born with a golden spoon in her mouth, ever been so completely ignored by a man??’
