Chapter 233: Chapter 233: A Good Entry Point

Hearing her defiant words, Jiang Fan grabbed her by the ear. "It’s that mouth of yours. Sometimes you can even make a good thing sound bad. I might not know other people, but you think I don’t know you?"

"Next time you run your mouth, I’ll sew it shut."

After speaking, Jiang Fan let go, flicking her hard on the forehead with the hand that had just been holding her ear.

With that flick, Jiang Fan didn’t have the strength to make Li Qian’Er’s eyes well up.

Only then did he and Jun Yue push open the door and walk into the Director’s room.

The moment they entered, they saw the Director sitting up against the bed with her eyes closed, resting.

Beside her was the medicinal broth Li Qian’Er had prepared, of which she seemed to have only drunk half.

Jiang Fan frowned. "Grandma, you need to finish this medicine."

He sat down on the edge of the bed and picked up the bowl.

"You’re both back. You’ve been through a lot."

The Director opened her eyes, a kind smile on her face, but they both saw the exhaustion in her eyes.

It seemed she had been waiting for them ever since she woke up.

"It was no trouble, Grandma. First, drink your medicine."

Jiang Fan picked up the spoon and brought it to her lips, feeding her the medicine spoonful by spoonful.

Jun Yue didn’t say a word the entire time.

But the slight tremor in the hand she had resting on the Director’s leg revealed that she was not as calm as she appeared.

After she finished the medicine, Jiang Fan set the bowl aside and wiped her mouth with a tissue.

"Grandma, please don’t be upset. We went to check, and it really is... a policy change from the Education Bureau."

"Our orphanage is missing a lot of the required paperwork and credentials, so there’s nothing that can be done."

Jiang Fan chose his words with care, speaking cautiously as he watched the Director’s reaction.

He was afraid that a single wrong word might be too much of a shock for her.

"Fan, I know you are both good, obedient children."

"That’s why Grandma wants what’s best for you, but I don’t want you both to be under so much pressure."

"Starting a school... it sounds like some kind of fantasy. I can’t imagine how much money that would cost."

"I really don’t want the orphanage to become a burden on you two. Otherwise, even after I die, I won’t be able to face your grandpa in the afterlife."

Tears streamed down the old Director’s face.

She had no children of her own, so Jiang Fan and Jun Yue were like her own flesh and blood, especially since she had watched them grow into adults.

How could she bear to let these two, in the prime of their lives, shoulder such immense pressure and responsibility?

"Grandma, don’t say things like that."

"You’re going to live to be a hundred. Don’t you want to see me get married and have children?"

"You can’t leave us."

Jun Yue slumped over the covers, no longer able to contain her fear and sense of grievance, her whole body trembling.

For her, the only family she had in this world was the Director, Jiang Fan, and Li Qian’Er.

The Director, especially, was the most important person in her life.

She didn’t dare to imagine what kind of blow it would be if the Director were to pass away.

Seeing the two of them in tears, Jiang Fan found it hard to keep his composure.

’Last night was truly the most terrifying moment of my life.’

"Jun, Grandma is fine now, isn’t she? Please don’t cry. When you cry, it makes me want to cry too."

Li Qian’Er said, wiping away her own tears as she stood to the side.

After a long, long time, Jun Yue and the Director’s emotions finally settled.

"Have you two finished dealing with the school matter?"

The Director finally asked.

"Yes."

"Don’t worry, we really didn’t spend much money this time. At most, we just need to find some teachers."

"Everything else is already in place."

"Don’t worry, Grandma. We still have a few months. We definitely won’t let the children’s education be delayed."

In the end, Jiang Fan told a white lie.

The Director’s body, in its current state, really couldn’t handle any more shocks.

"Grandma, once you’re feeling better, we’ll take you to see the school."

"Gradually, we can move the orphanage into the school."

"There are three dormitory buildings there, more than enough for the children."

"It’s nice here, but it’s getting a bit crowded for the kids."

"Alright. We’ll go have a look when the time comes."

Since it had already come to this, what’s done was done. There was nothing more for the Director to say.

Besides, she was truly worried about the children having no school to attend. She had been running around for the better part of a month with absolutely no success.

Everywhere she went, people just told her it was policy.

She didn’t understand policies or long-term visions; all she knew was that her children were about to be left without an education.

For her, this was a catastrophe on the level of the sky falling, which was why she was so anxious.

So anxious, in fact, that she had worked herself sick.

After two doses of the medicinal broth, the Director was able to get out of bed and move around a little.

The two helpers Jun Yue had found also began to get busy.

With their help, the Director and Li Qian’Er’s workload at the orphanage was indeed lightened considerably.

After dinner, Jiang Fan spoke a few words with the Director, said goodbye to Jun Yue, and then drove away from the orphanage, heading straight for his company.

He couldn’t help but feel anxious. The National Day holiday was just around the corner.

Not only was the Planning Department’s proposal not ready, but they were now on the verge of coming to blows.

He had even been getting calls about it.

He had no choice but to rush back as quickly as possible.

When he arrived at the company, he found that not a single person in the entire Planning Department had left.

The atmosphere in the office, however, was thick with tension.

"What the hell do you think you’re doing? Have you all decided to rebel? Is your work done?"

Jiang Fan didn’t bother trying to figure out who was right or wrong. He cut straight to the chase and chewed everyone out.

Then, he addressed the entire office.

"You all have so much energy, right? Good. The general framework for the proposal is already in place. Now, you’re going to give me a good angle."

"If I don’t have a good idea to build this proposal around by the end of tonight, none of you are going home!"
