Chapter 286: Chapter 286: Get a Marriage License?

Jiang Fan’s sudden question left Elder Lu stunned.

"Jiang, how did you know I have heart disease? Don’t tell me you’ve also studied medicine?"

Elder Lu stared at Jiang Fan, his face paling in shock, before his gaze shifted to Li Jiaxiang.

He rarely mentioned his heart condition to anyone. Although he had once asked Li Jiaxiang to find ginseng for him, he had never revealed that it was for his heart.

Li Jiaxiang and his wife were also staring at Jiang Fan in astonishment.

This was especially true for Li Jiaxiang. He decided that from this day forward, he would have to look at his son-in-law in a new light.

Although Li Jiaxiang wasn’t a Grandmaster himself, he had long heard tales of them. He knew that the Lu Family’s current standing was entirely thanks to the support of Elder Lu, a Postnatal Realm martial artist.

But he never would have imagined that the young Jiang Fan was actually a terrifying Innate Realm Grandmaster. No wonder Elder Lu treated him with such courtesy and respect.

He thought Jiang Fan had already given him enough surprises for one day, but he never expected his son-in-law to also know medicine.

At that moment, Li Jiaxiang had accepted Jiang Fan as his son-in-law from the bottom of his heart.

Jiang Fan looked at Elder Lu and said calmly, "I’ve studied it a little. Heart disease is a common ailment among the elderly. Even if you don’t mention it, it leaves telltale signs on one’s face."

Elder Lu burst out laughing.

"Jiang, I thought you were an expert in jade and calligraphy, a master of the martial arts... I never imagined you’d know medicine as well. Just how many more surprises do you have in store for me, young man?"

He sighed and glanced at Lu Youyou.

"If you weren’t already taken, I’d have to make my granddaughter put in some effort!"

"Grandpa..."

Lu Youyou and Jiang Fan looked awkward, but everyone else erupted in laughter. They could all tell Elder Lu was joking, though his admiration for Jiang Fan was undoubtedly genuine.

Jiang Fan looked at the wild ginseng and said quickly, "Elder Lu, forgive me for being blunt, but this ginseng won’t be of much help for your heart condition."

"Jiang, why is that?"

"Elder Lu, it’s true that ginseng can calm the mind and regulate the cardiovascular system. However, this is a centennial wild ginseng, which means its medicinal properties are extremely potent. Given your physical condition, not only will it fail to alleviate your symptoms, it could actually cause insomnia. In more severe cases, it might lead to unbearable abdominal pain, irritability, and depression."

"What? Jiang Fan, you’re not just being an alarmist, are you?" Li Jiaxiang asked, surprised.

"I’m certain of it. If you don’t believe me, you can let Elder Lu try it for himself!"

"No, no, Elder Lu, let’s be cautious!"

Elder Lu’s face clouded with worry. He was well aware of Jiang Fan’s capabilities and knew he wasn’t the type to be a deliberate alarmist.

Still, his heart condition had been a major problem for a long time, and it was the main reason he was struggling to break through the early stage of the Postnatal Realm.

Since the topic had come up, Jiang Fan decided not to hold back. He had actually noticed Elder Lu’s symptoms the last time they met, but there hadn’t been a suitable opportunity to mention it.

After all, meeting Elder Lu again could be considered fate, so Jiang Fan decided he might as well see this through to the end.

"Elder Lu, your chest pain and shortness of breath aren’t entirely due to your heart condition. They’re also closely related to your insomnia and loss of appetite!"

Before Jiang Fan could even finish, Elder Lu and Lu Youyou were utterly stunned.

"Jiang... Elder Jiang, you’re incredible! You even know all about Grandpa’s day-to-day symptoms!"

At this point, Elder Lu naturally believed Jiang Fan’s words without a shred of doubt.

Jiang Fan gave a wry smile. "Didn’t I tell you not to call me ’Elder’..."

He looked at Elder Lu and said seriously, "Elder Lu, as for your insomnia and loss of appetite, that’s a separate issue. We came in a hurry today and didn’t prepare a gift. May I borrow a pen and paper? I’ll write you a prescription. Consider it a gift from Wan’Er and me for our first formal visit."

Li Muwan, who had been silent all this time, felt a warmth spread through her heart.

Jiang Fan gave Elder Lu a meaningful look, deliberately emphasizing the name "Wan’Er." It seemed to be a reminder for Elder Lu not to bring up the matter between him and Yin Ruxue.

Elder Lu was an incredibly perceptive man; he understood the meaning behind Jiang Fan’s glance instantly.

"Quick, Youyou, get a pen and paper for Jiang!"

Lu Youyou didn’t dare to delay. Since Jiang Fan could so accurately describe her grandfather’s symptoms, he was clearly the real deal.

Lu Youyou quickly returned with a pen and paper. Without delay, Jiang Fan drew upon his memory of the Celestial Return Medical Records and wrote out a prescription.

"Elder Lu, take this prescription at the specified times and dosages. Within a week, your insomnia and loss of appetite will be completely cured. Once those are gone, the chest pain and shortness of breath from your heart condition will resolve on their own."

"Thank you, Jiang! Thank you so much!"

Elder Lu couldn’t help but thank him again and again.

Nearby, Li Jiaxiang, his wife, and Li Muwan were completely dumbfounded.

A moment later, the butler in the tunic suit who had appeared earlier walked over to Elder Lu’s side.

"Sir, dinner is ready."

Elder Lu was in high spirits. "Come, let’s eat and talk!"

Seated at the dining table, Elder Lu was still singing Jiang Fan’s praises.

"Jiaxiang, I’m truly quite pleased with this son-in-law of yours!"

His tone suddenly shifted. "Rest assured, I, Lu, rarely owe favors. I’ll do my best to handle that matter you entrusted to me. And you, Jiang—if you ever have need of this old man in the future, don’t hesitate to ask!"

Jiang Fan nodded. In his mind, it had been a trivial effort, something he did for Li Muwan’s sake. He had never expected anything from Elder Lu in return.

The meal was a pleasant one, filled with lively conversation.

Li Muwan, however, didn’t say much from start to finish, spending most of her time chatting with Lu Youyou.

By the time they left the Lu residence, Li Jiaxiang’s face was flushed red. Jiang Fan had seen him down a good seven or eight glasses of baijiu; he was clearly in high spirits.

Seeing her father so drunk, Li Muwan couldn’t help but shake her head. She had never seen him drink so much, but it would have been impossible for her to try and stop him in that setting.

Jiang Fan, on the other hand, had used the excuse of having to work later and only drank sparingly.

"Dad, Mom, I’ll take you back to the hotel first," Li Muwan said once they were in the car, looking at her tipsy father.

"What hotel? Go home! We’re going straight home! I’ll get the household register for you two. You and Jiang Fan can go get your marriage certificate right now, before the office closes!"

"Wha... I... but..."

"Dad, I think you’re really drunk!"

"I’m not drunk! I’m serious!"

As Li Jiaxiang said this, his words began to slur.

"Alright, that’s enough. If you’re drunk, then be quiet. What nonsense are you spouting? Don’t make a scene in front of the kids!" Mrs. Li said from the side, sounding exasperated.
