Chapter 287: Chapter 287: Rong Anyao Calls for Help
But then, Mrs. Li suddenly added, "Jiang, don’t listen to his nonsense. But I fully support you and Wan’Er dating. I’ll have the household register ready for you two anytime!"
"Mom, not you too..."
Li Muwan, mortified, slammed on the accelerator. She couldn’t wait to drop her parents back at the hotel.
Jiang Fan was also incredibly awkward. Mrs. Li had always been so proper. It was one thing for a drunk Li Jiaxiang to be spouting nonsense, but Mrs. Li hadn’t touched a drop of alcohol, yet she was saying things like that.
For a moment, he averted his gaze, not daring to look at Li Muwan.
Li Muwan kept her eyes fixed on the road, not daring to even glance in his direction.
With Li Muwan driving at a breakneck pace, the car soon entered the city proper.
But just then, Jiang Fan’s phone suddenly rang.
He pulled out his phone and saw it was a text message.
The moment he read the message, he froze.
The text was from Rong Anyao. It contained just three words: "Fan, help me!"
Reading those words, a jolt went through Jiang Fan.
His first instinct was to call Rong Anyao.
He knew Rong Anyao well. She was not the type to play pranks.
So, for her to send a message like this, she must be in some kind of danger.
But the phone just kept ringing. No one picked up.
He tried calling several more times, but was met with the same cold, incessant ringing. No one answered.
This only made Jiang Fan more anxious.
"What’s wrong?" Li Muwan seemed to notice something was off. Jiang Fan’s expression had changed the moment his phone rang.
Before Jiang Fan could answer, his phone buzzed again.
It was another text, again from Rong Anyao.
"Fan, save me, I’m at the Yang City Anime Convention, Area A, 7!?. ,"
The message seemed to have been sent in a hurry and cut off, ending in a string of garbled symbols. At least the core information had made it through.
"Wan’Er, I have an emergency. I have to go. Your father..."
He glanced back at Li Jiaxiang, who was now fast asleep in the back seat.
Li Muwan glanced at Jiang Fan and could see how frantic he was.
"Where are you going? I’ll take you!"
"No, it’s fine. You should hurry and get your parents home to rest."
"Okay, then. Be careful. Don’t worry about going to the office. I’ll wait for you at home!"
"Okay!"
Jiang Fan agreed, and Li Muwan had already pulled the car over to the side of the road.
Without wasting a second, Jiang Fan hailed a taxi.
"Driver, the Yang City Anime Convention!"
The driver glanced at Jiang Fan. "Kid, why head to the anime convention now? It started this morning, so it’s probably about to close for the day. No need to rush, it’ll be on for two more days!"
Jiang Fan had no time to waste on small talk and pulled two hundred-yuan bills from his pocket.
"Get me to Area A of the anime convention. As fast as you can. Step on it!"
With that, he pulled out several more hundred-yuan bills and tossed them onto the center console. "Forget the red lights!"
The driver, who had been leisurely smoking a cigarette, snapped to attention the moment he saw the stack of nearly a dozen hundred-yuan bills. He sat up straight.
"Buckle up, kid. I’m about to show you the God of Qiuming Mountain."
As he spoke, the driver floored the accelerator, and the car began weaving frantically through the city’s streets and alleys.
Jiang Fan tried calling Rong Anyao again, but there was still no answer.
He checked his map. The Yang City Anime Convention was at the Yang City Gymnasium, right in the bustling city center and a full ten kilometers away.
However, the driver was flying. He darted through streets and alleys, and whenever he hit a traffic jam, he’d just drive with two wheels up on the sidewalk to get past.
In less than ten minutes, they covered the entire ten kilometers. The car screeched to a halt in front of the Yang City Anime Convention.
"It’s too crowded up ahead, kid. I can’t go any further!" the driver said.
Jiang Fan didn’t hesitate and bolted from the car.
He looked up. The entrance to the massive gymnasium was packed solid with hundreds, if not thousands, of people coming and going.
Jiang Fan could see from a distance that the gymnasium was probably tens of thousands of square meters, with dozens of doors on every side. ’How am I supposed to find Rong Anyao in a place like this?’
It was his first time at an anime convention like this, but he quickly spotted the sign for Area A.
Her phone still wouldn’t connect, so Jiang Fan looked at the text from Rong Anyao again: Area A, 7!
His mind raced as he scanned his surroundings. ’If I’m not mistaken,’ he thought, ’she must mean she’s at Gate 7 in Area A.’
With that, Jiang Fan immediately sprinted toward Gate 7 of Area A.
The Yang City Anime Convention was a chaotic, shoulder-to-shoulder throng of people. It was incredibly lively.
Almost everyone was dressed in costumes from various games and anime.
Even with Jiang Fan’s exceptional eyesight, it would be a challenge to spot Rong Anyao in such a crowd.
He soon reached the entrance to Gate 7 and tried calling Rong Anyao again, but this time, the call was immediately disconnected.
He was about to charge into the venue, but as soon as he reached the entrance, he was stopped by two security guards.
"Hey, where do you think you’re going? Where’s your ticket?"
"What ticket?"
"Duh! You think you can get into the convention without a ticket?"
"I’m here to find someone!"
"Everyone here is looking for someone! That’s what this place is for!"
"I..."
Jiang Fan glanced around, trying to figure out how to force his way in.
Just then, his eyes landed on a distant exit. A woman in a purple and gold cosplay outfit, with a man in a suit’s arm around her, was being led into a black Mercedes van.
The woman had purple hair and was cosplaying as the character Diao Chan from *Honor of Kings*, wearing her famous purple and gold skin.
Even though he only saw her from the side, Jiang Fan recognized her in an instant. The cosplayer was Rong Anyao.
"Rong Anyao!"
He shouted her name without a second thought.
But Rong Anyao’s eyes were closed as the man beside her pushed her into the Mercedes van.
Four men in black suits followed them in.
"Rong Anyao!"
Jiang Fan scrambled toward them, ignoring the startled looks from the surrounding crowd.
But Rong Anyao didn’t respond. Once everyone was inside, the van began to move slowly, following the flow of traffic out of the venue. In moments, it was approaching the main exit.
Without a second to lose, Jiang Fan charged forward. He fought his way through the bottleneck at the exit, but by the time he broke free, the van was already a hundred meters away and about to turn onto the main street.
He frantically looked around, but there wasn’t a single taxi in sight.
No time to think. He wrenched open the passenger door of a nearby Passat and hauled the woman in the seat out onto the pavement.
"Hey! What do you think you’re doing?"
