The Goddess CEO Fell in Love with Me
Chapter 304: Making Trouble
Chapter 304: Chapter 304: Making Trouble
Jiang Fan felt a little awkward. He’d thought Grandma might ask before he came, but now that it was time to explain, he didn’t know what to say.
"Alright, alright. If it’s hard to explain, then don’t. In my eyes, you’re all the same. You’re all my children!"
"Grandma, it’s wonderful that you think that way," Jiang Fan said with a smile.
As he spoke, Jiang Fan rolled up his sleeves and started to help out.
"Oh, Fan, it’s thanks to you and Junyue that our orphanage has become what it is today. In the blink of an eye, you and little Junyue have both grown up and become so successful. It would be wonderful if you two could get married and start a family!"
"Ah... Wha— Grandma, what are you talking about?"
"I just think you and Junyue are a good match. And I’m not one to play matchmaker without good reason."
"Grandma, Junyue and I were just joking when we were kids. Playing house doesn’t count for anything."
"What, would it be such a hardship to marry me?"
Just then, Junyue’s voice came from outside the kitchen as she walked in.
Apparently, she had heard the entire conversation.
"Junyue, you’re here too?" Jiang Fan said, surprised.
"I just got here. What’s the matter? Was someone about to say something bad about me, afraid I’d overhear?"
"Junyue, how would I dare say anything bad about you? I don’t have enough time to sing your praises as it is."
"Hmph! You’d better mean that!"
"Alright, alright, Fan. There’s not much to help with in the kitchen. Now that little Junyue is here, you two go outside and play with the children."
Jiang Fan glanced at the kitchen. Besides Grandma, several other aunties were working in a very organized manner, so he nodded.
He and Junyue left the kitchen and found a spot to sit in a corner of the yard.
Seeing Jiang Fan sit down, Mengmeng quickly ran over.
She was holding a grasshopper, which she raised excitedly in front of Jiang Fan.
"Daddy, look what this is! Qian’Er said it’s called a grasshopper. I caught it all by myself."
Jiang Fan smiled at the sight and stroked Mengmeng’s forehead.
"You’re amazing, Mengmeng. But be careful now. Don’t hurt it, and don’t bother the other kids with it."
"Okay, I know. I’ll be careful!"
"Alright, go on and play. Daddy will be right here watching you!" Jiang Fan patted Mengmeng, who quickly ran back into the crowd of children.
But just then, Jiang Fan noticed Junyue staring at him intently. Her gaze was unnerving.
"Jiang Fan, did that child just call you ’Daddy’? Your kid is that old already?"
"Ah... well... Junyue, how should I put this? Grandma asked about it just now, too. It’s... it’s a long story!"
"Jiang Fan, I thought you didn’t even have a girlfriend. If it’s a long story, then just give me the short version. I’m all ears."
Seeing Junyue’s keen interest, Jiang Fan decided to just come out with it. "She’s Yin Ruxue’s daughter!"
He then briefly explained how he had agreed to Yin Ruxue’s request to pretend to be Mengmeng’s father.
After hearing his explanation, Junyue nodded in understanding.
"So, you agreed to help President Yin with her daughter. Why didn’t she come today?"
"We had planned to come together, but Yin Ruxue apparently had something urgent come up at the company, so I brought Mengmeng by myself," Jiang Fan explained.
"Has the matter with Fengming Group not been resolved yet?" Junyue asked.
"Fengming Group?"
"Yes. Isn’t it because of them? I heard Fengming Group has been targeting Xuerong International recently, doing whatever it takes to cause them problems, and even going directly to their offices to make trouble."
"Is that really happening?"
"Weren’t you working for them? How could you not know?" Junyue frowned.
"I’ve already resigned," Jiang Fan said. "That’s another long story. In short, I’m not with Xuerong International anymore."
"In that case, are you interested in coming to work at my company?" Junyue asked with a smile.
"Not right now, Junyue," Jiang Fan said with a wry smile. "I just went through the trouble of resigning. I don’t want to become a corporate drone again so soon."
Junyue didn’t press the issue. She just nodded and said, "Alright!"
Glancing over at Mengmeng, Junyue suddenly added, "It sounds like President Yin is going through a tough time. I built my brand from the ground up, one step at a time, just like her, so I can imagine how difficult it is. I heard Fengming Group is dead set on this. Someone from their side even came to see me yesterday, wanting me to terminate my partnership with Xuerong International. I refused, of course."
She sighed and continued, "Tell President Yin that if there’s anything I can do to help, she just has to ask."
Jiang Fan nodded, lost in thought.
Just then, a cry suddenly rang out from the yard.
Jiang Fan looked toward the sound. It was Mengmeng!
Hearing Mengmeng’s cries, Jiang Fan shot to his feet and ran over.
Mengmeng was sprawled on the lawn, crying her eyes out.
"Mengmeng, what’s wrong?"
Jiang Fan rushed to help Mengmeng up. Li Qian’Er ran over too, and the other children quickly swarmed around them.
Only then did Jiang Fan see that Mengmeng had scraped her knee and it was starting to bleed.
"Daddy, it hurts so much! I was trying to catch a grasshopper and I tripped on a rock and fell!"
As soon as she finished speaking, Mengmeng burst into tears again.
"It hurts so much!"
Li Qian’Er said hastily, "Jiang, I’m so sorry! I wasn’t watching her closely enough. It’s all my fault!"
"It’s fine. How could this be your fault?"
Jiang Fan waved his hand, signaling for her not to blame herself.
He scooped Mengmeng up in his arms. While examining the wound, he said, "Mengmeng, no crying. A little scrape like this is nothing for a big girl like you. If you cry, the other kids might laugh. Nobody likes to play with a crybaby."
Hearing this, Mengmeng’s crying came to an abrupt halt.
"I’m... I’m not crying."
She said the words, but the pain in her leg still made her let out a few quiet sobs.
"I’ll go get some iodine," Junyue said. "Fan, you go clean her wound. Qian’Er, you can go back to watching the other kids."
"Okay!"
Jiang Fan once again told Li Qian’Er not to blame herself, then carried Mengmeng over to a nearby faucet to carefully clean the wound.
A moment later, Junyue returned with iodine, bandages, and medical tape.
You could tell that even though her wound still hurt a lot, Mengmeng was trying her best not to cry.
Jiang Fan comforted her the entire time.
Soon, the wound was clean. Jiang Fan saw a decent-sized patch of skin had been scraped off Mengmeng’s leg, likely from the fall. Thankfully, the wound wasn’t deep and probably hadn’t reached the bone.
"Good girl, Mengmeng. Daddy took plenty of tumbles like this when he was little, and he never cried once."
