Chapter 68: Chapter 68: What’s So Special About This Man?

When Li Muwan saw Jiang Fan nod with a dead-serious expression, she was actually on the verge of a mental breakdown.

She had considered the shop’s poor location, its interior layout, and even its market positioning relative to the mall.

With no other solutions in sight and more and more shops failing, she had even started to wonder if it was a feng shui problem.

But she never expected the cause of the problem to be so ridiculously simple.

"Also, I had Sun show me the performance of several other company-owned shops, and it was all pretty much the same story."

"If we solve this problem, the crisis facing the shops will naturally resolve itself."

"Great! Jiang Fan, you’re a hero! What’s the issue between you and the chairman, anyway? I’ll go talk to him. I can definitely smooth things over."

This wasn’t something Li Muwan would have said before.

But things were different now. For one, her feelings for Jiang Fan had begun to change. For another, she had discovered that he was a man of genuine talent.

The biggest problem plaguing Xuerong right now was its retail shops. Their revenue was plummeting, and their market share was shrinking.

If this trend continued, their company would very likely start on a downward spiral.

But now that the root of the problem had been found, solving it no longer seemed so difficult.

Her gratitude toward Jiang Fan was completely sincere, without a hint of pretense.

In fact, at that moment, she was even wondering if Jiang Fan was the company’s lucky star.

But now, it seemed this lucky star was about to go elsewhere...

"Alright, I’ve finished the job you gave me. From now on, we’re even."

"Goodbye."

With that, Jiang Fan turned and strode away without the slightest hesitation.

Li Muwan watched his retreating figure, lost in thought for a long time.

...

On the way, Jiang Fan first called Wu Qiang to make sure no one was crashing at his dump.

Then he hailed a cab straight to Yin Ruxue’s place and packed his belongings into a small bundle.

He also neatly folded all the clothes, belts, shoes, and other things Yin Ruxue had bought for him and placed them on the bed.

Ignoring Nanny Chen’s shocked gaze, he calmly left the villa.

...

"I mean, what the hell are you doing?"

"So now the rich lady’s gone, the money’s gone, and you have to come crash at my place? What’s wrong, you can’t get it up? Why don’t you introduce her to me instead?"

"My dentist has been telling me since I was a kid that I have weak teeth. Perfect for being a kept man."

Wu Qiang said, puffing away on a cigarette.

"Piss off. I already told you, it was a job."

"She begged and pleaded before I finally agreed to help her. But then she pissed me off, so I went and fired her," Jiang Fan said defiantly.

As he spoke, he started spreading his blanket and sheet over a single-seat sofa.

After all, this crappy little rental only had one bed, one sofa, a table, and nothing else.

One of the table legs was too short, making the whole thing wobble.

"Hey, don’t smoke the whole pack! In the time it took me to make my bed, you’ve already had three or four."

Jiang Fan snatched the pack of cigarettes from Wu Qiang’s hand, his face showing a pained wince.

"Look at you, being so stingy."

Wu Qiang lunged over and plucked another cigarette from the pack.

He ignored Jiang Fan’s furious protests and asked, "So, what’s your plan now?"

"’What’s my plan?’ Go back to food delivery, I guess. If that doesn’t work out, I’ll sort packages at a courier."

"It’s not a job fit for a human, but at least it pays."

"Can’t let myself starve to death."

"Although, given my history with Yang Bapi... food delivery might be tough," Jiang Fan replied, rubbing his chin.

"You don’t have to worry about that. Yang Bapi had some kind of bullshit luck and got transferred somewhere else to be a manager."

"God knows which rich old lady’s bed he crawled into," Wu Qiang said, grinding his teeth in resentment.

"A weak-ass guy like him can crawl into a rich lady’s bed?"

Jiang Fan was utterly shocked.

"Who knows. Anyway, stop bullshitting. Let’s go, it’s almost noon."

"If you’re serious about delivering, we can go now. The new station manager is pretty easygoing."

"An experienced driver like you can start making runs as soon as you pay the deposit."

Wu Qiang stamped out his cigarette with his foot and brushed the ash from his clothes.

"Fine, let’s go. But you’ll have to give me a ride."

Jiang Fan stretched. He hadn’t expected to end up right back where he started after all that.

Everything that had happened before felt like a dream, completely unreal.

This feeling now—working an honest job for honest pay—this felt like real life.

He followed Wu Qiang to the new delivery station, met the new manager, paid the deposit, got his electric scooter, and smoothly fell back into his old line of work.

This new manager was indeed a huge improvement over Yang Bapi.

He was easygoing and even pretty generous.

And so, Jiang Fan spent the day running deliveries. The only difference was that he had a bit more time to rest now; he didn’t have to keep his nerves stretched taut like a wire.

If you keep a string pulled tight for too long, you never know when it might snap.

...

「Yin Ruxue’s Villa – Jiang Fan’s Room」

"Mommy’s a liar! Daddy is a hero who helps people!"

"He didn’t just beat someone up for no reason."

"All the kids in my class said so! Even my teacher said so!"

"Daddy only did it because he had to!"

"And even then, Mommy still fought with Daddy."

"Mommy is a bad person!"

Mengmeng shoved at Yin Ruxue, sobbing hysterically.

Yin Ruxue tried to hug her, but Mengmeng resisted fiercely.

"Mengmeng, sweetie, can Mommy talk to you about this tomorrow? It’s getting very late, you need to go to sleep."

"You’re still little. There are some things that Mommy can’t explain, and you wouldn’t understand."

"I don’t care! I’m going to wait for Daddy here! He’ll definitely come back for Mengmeng!"

Yin Ruxue’s gentle words had no effect.

Mengmeng just kept crying, insisting on sitting on Jiang Fan’s bed to wait for his return.

At first, she thought the crying wasn’t a big deal—that she could just comfort her a bit and it would pass.

But an hour and a half had passed, and Mengmeng hadn’t stopped at all. Now, she was genuinely scared.

Yin Ruxue pulled Mengmeng into her arms, gently patting her on the back.

’Did I really misunderstand him?’ she couldn’t help but wonder.

"Nanny Chen, could you bring a glass of warm water?"

"Have Mengmeng drink some of it. I need to make a call."
