Chapter 89: Chapter 89: It Turns Out I’m the Clown?

"No, I don’t think she’s lying to me."

"I don’t know how to describe it to you. Where are you? Let me treat you to a meal."

"If you’re at work, then never mind."

Jiang Fan felt that his mood seemed a little off.

After glancing at the time, Jiang Fan said, "I’m not working. Where are you?"

"Let’s meet at Old Niu’s place."

The two of them often went to Old Niu’s for a good meal, so they were on familiar terms with him.

"Alright."

After hanging up, Jiang Fan sighed.

Wu Qiang was his brother. When Jiang Fan first came to this city all alone, he’d sponged most of his meals and drinks off Wu Qiang.

For all that time, even though Wu Qiang might curse him out a bit, he never failed to come through for him.

By the time Jiang Fan drove over, Wu Qiang had already arrived.

To be honest, even from a short distance away, he hardly recognized him at first.

He was a completely different person.

His old bird’s nest hair was now a new, permed style, and his scruffy, unshaven look was gone.

The same old hoodie and jacket he wore year-round were nowhere to be seen, probably tossed out long ago.

In their place were a loose-fitting casual outfit and sneakers that perfectly accentuated his physique.

Wu Qiang didn’t just deliver food every day; he also worked out frequently after coming home.

So, his muscles were quite defined.

Paired with his height of over five-foot-seven, you could definitely call him a handsome guy.

It was just that he never used to clean himself up. Now that he did, his image was enough to make any young girl’s heart flutter.

It was only then that Jiang Fan remembered Wu Qiang was only about twenty-one years old.

"Dude, did you eat a fairy’s fart or something?"

Jiang Fan walked up, clapped him hard on the shoulder, and couldn’t help but look him up and down a few more times.

"Tingting did all this for me."

Wu Qiang smiled sheepishly.

"Nice, nice. Much more handsome."

"If you went out to pick up girls now, you’d probably succeed every single time."

"Whoa, did you two go on *Extreme Makeover* or something?"

Old Niu walked out of his shop.

Seeing the brand-new Wu Qiang and Jiang Fan, he couldn’t resist walking over to Jiang Fan’s side and giving his thigh a hard pinch.

"OW, FUCK!"

Jiang Fan let out a yelp.

"Old Niu, are you crazy? What are you pinching me for?"

"I’m checking to see if I’m dreaming. It hurts, so I guess I’m not. Did you two both hook up with sugar mamas?"

"When are you gonna introduce Old Niu to one?"

"After all, I’m a famously handsome young man in these parts."

Old Niu said shamelessly, rubbing his bald head.

"Screw you!"

Jiang Fan rolled his eyes. "Then why the hell didn’t you pinch yourself? And you pinched me so hard!"

"Our brotherly bond makes us like one person. What’s the difference between pinching you and pinching me? The pinch is on the son, but the pain is in the father! Don’t you get it?"

"Screw you!"

Jiang Fan smacked Old Niu’s bald head with the back of his hand.

"Next time you try to pull one over on me, I’ll break off your third leg."

"Alright, you two, stop messing around."

"I’m here for something serious today."

Wu Qiang waved his hand dismissively.

Jiang Fan and Old Niu exchanged a look and stopped joking around.

"Okay then, you two have a seat. I’ll get you something to eat."

Jiang Fan pulled Wu Qiang to a table and sat down. Given their close friendship, he didn’t beat around the bush. "So, what’s the deal?"

"You don’t have a car, money, or a house, and you can’t even count on your family elders."

"And despite all that, she still wants to marry you? What about the betrothal gift? The wedding later? A house? A car?"

Jiang Fan’s questions were very practical.

Even if the girl is so head over heels in love right now that she doesn’t care, what about her parents? Wouldn’t they care?

So, sooner or later, these were all problems Wu Qiang would have to face.

"Ahem, this is the car she bought me."

"This is the house she bought, and it’s in both our names."

Staring at the little red booklet, Jiang Fan was stunned for a moment. "Then the mortgage..."

"We just came from the sales office today. Paid in full."

"Huh? And you fucking told me you didn’t hook up with a sugar mama?"

Jiang Fan slammed the table and shot to his feet.

"She’s really not."

"She bought all of this for me. The car is even registered in my name only."

Wu Qiang took out a key fob and pressed a button. In the distance, a Mercedes chirped.

"Holy shit, a Mercedes?!"

Jiang Fan couldn’t hold it together anymore.

"Then, buddy, why does she want to marry you?"

"With her kind of money, what kind of partner couldn’t she find?"

"Besides, would her family even agree to it?"

"She’s the only one left in her family. Her parents died in a car accident, and the settlement was over four million."

"Then her family’s land was part of a demolition and redevelopment project, and the compensation was over seventy million..."

"It’s just that she doesn’t have any relatives, so no one else knows about all this."

"What the actual fuck?!"

Jiang Fan was completely dumbfounded.

’So it turns out I was the clown all along, huh?’

"No, no, the difference in your social status is just too great."

"Something’s definitely not right here."

Jiang Fan sat back down, rubbing the bridge of his nose, trying to find the flaw in the story.

"You don’t think she’s after one of your organs, do you?"

Jiang Fan’s head snapped up.

"Can’t I just be after him for who he is?"

An angry female voice suddenly sounded by his ear.

Jiang Fan turned his head to see a girl standing beside him, glaring at him furiously.

She wore a floor-length white dress that accentuated her slender figure, making its curves look like rolling hills.

A firm, high bust, a slender waist, and perfectly rounded hips—you couldn’t find a single flaw.

Even by Jiang Fan’s standards, her figure was, in a word, incredible.

The only fly in the ointment was her very plain and ordinary face.

You could say there was nothing remarkable about it.

But there was a look of determination in her eyes.

"Tingting, what are you doing here? I thought we agreed you’d wait a bit."

"Hmph, I couldn’t stand it!"

"You’re so good and so outstanding. Why does he have to insist on finding something wrong with us?"

"Ahem."

Jiang Fan was also quite embarrassed now and couldn’t help but rub his nose.

"Uh, Tingting, right? I didn’t mean anything by it."

"I’m actually very happy for you two. It’s just, he’s my brother. I know him better than anyone, and I care about him more than anyone."

"I can’t let him take on any unnecessary risks."

"Can you understand what I mean?"

"I don’t have many family members in my life. Wu Qiang is one of them."

"Honestly, put yourself in my shoes. Wouldn’t you be wary too?"

"After all, for him, this is basically a fortune falling from the sky. It feels unreal."

Jiang Fan said slowly after a moment of contemplation.
