Chapter 391: Chapter 157: The Revenue That Made the Fellow Chefs Cry
For seasoned veterans of the restaurant industry like them, this was destined to be a sleepless night.
After all, the revenue Su Chen had generated all by himself was enough to completely overturn their understanding of the business.
Wang Peixing, the manager and head chef of Cuihua Building.
After returning to his hotel, he tossed and turned, unable to fall asleep. At one in the morning, his eyes snapped open. "Shi Qi, how are you still awake?"
The two of them were sharing a standard room, and the light from Shi Qi’s phone was still shining brightly.
Shi Qi heard him. "Why are you awake too?"
Wang Peixing sat up and turned on the light. "I can’t fucking sleep! Boss Su made two hundred fifty thousand all by himself? Do you believe that? I feel like those numbers have to be fake."
Shi Qi sat up too and tossed a bottle of mineral water from the nightstand to Wang Peixing.
"I’ve been mulling that over too. Look."
Shi Qi started counting on his fingers. "Boss Su’s Cthulhu Buns, the standard ones, are 98 each. To make 250,000, how many would he have to sell? How is that possible?"
"But then I thought about it, and you can’t calculate it that way."
Wang Peixing took a sip of water. "Go on."
Shi Qi said, "We’ve both seen Boss Su’s knife skills. That crazy-fast, almost frantic chopping—is it fast or not?"
"Fast!"
"I’m not sure how the buns are made, but it can’t be more than mixing the meat filling and then stuffing it with the pre-picked crab meat and roe, right?"
"Right!"
"Then think about it this way. The standard buns are 98 each. Two hundred thousand in sales would be just over two thousand buns. But he also has that ’pick your own crab’ service! A single large bun from one of those could easily go for three or four hundred! I estimate that a thousand buns would probably be enough to hit two hundred fifty thousand. If you’re quick and have everything prepared in advance, is that really such a huge number?"
"Not really!"
Shi Qi nodded. "So there you have it. Even though the buns are made to order, preparing them a few hours in advance is no different from making them on the spot. Boss Su probably had a batch ready beforehand. If you think about it that way, it all makes sense."
"Son of a bitch!"
Wang Peixing was still bewildered.
If someone had told him the restaurant made over thirty thousand on its first day, Wang Peixing would have just thought it was a decent restaurant doing good business with a bright future, and he would have said, "Incredible!"
But being told one person sold 250,000 worth of buns in a single day...
Wang Peixing was just numb. All he could say was: "Son of a bitch!"
As the long night stretched on, Shi Qi and Wang Peixing eventually drifted off to sleep amid sighs and frustrated muttering.
They only saw Su Chen as a force of nature, but they didn’t know he had his own difficulties.
"We can’t keep this up tomorrow." Ling Shuyu hadn’t left the company after dinner; instead, she went to Su Chen’s office. "The seafood market just called. They said we’ve bought up almost all the good crabs in the entire Jingzhou City. The most they can deliver tomorrow is fifty thousand worth."
Jingzhou isn’t a coastal city, and there aren’t many local restaurants that sell seafood, so the seafood market’s business has always been relatively small.
Su Chen pinched the bridge of his nose. "You’re right, we can’t. Let’s get rid of the ’pick your own crab’ service, and we’ll have to limit the standard buns too."
You can never make enough money, and this sales volume is already insane. If they kept this up just for the money, Aunt Fang’s body wouldn’t be able to take it.
When they were closing up today, Su Chen had noticed Aunt Fang constantly rubbing her wrists. Making buns nonstop for a whole day was truly exhausting.
Besides, under normal circumstances, Su Chen himself would never personally step up to sell food!
This time, the main goal was to complete the main quest, and a secondary goal was to capitalize on the hype to build a name for Delicious.
Now that the quest was complete, even if the Cthulhu buns were SS Level soup dumplings, he couldn’t just keep selling them like crazy.
’I have several SS Level dishes. Am I supposed to sell them every single day?’
That was Su Chen’s line of thinking.
After all, he was the boss!
The unfortunate part was that no matter how much he streamlined the process for an SS Level dish, other people just couldn’t learn it. That was the most frustrating thing.
Only Su Chen himself could make it!
’If it doesn’t work out, I could still try letting others make it. Even if they can’t reach SS Level, achieving S Class might be possible.’
He didn’t have time to deal with this matter for now, so he could only shelve it for later.
After chatting a bit more about work, Ling Shuyu also left the company.
Su Chen lay back in his chair, alone.
Days like this were so tiring. To be honest, he hadn’t been this exhausted in a long time.
The last time he was this tired was when Fang Chang’s father-in-law decided to play dirty and launch a surprise visit ahead of schedule.
After lying there for a moment, Su Chen was so exhausted he fell into a deep sleep.
The employees at Delicious were all in pretty much the same state; they got home, washed up, and immediately collapsed into sleep from exhaustion.
What no one could have expected was that there was one person who not only wasn’t asleep, but was busy as hell!
"What! Another two thousand orders of beef? What the hell! What’s our inventory looking like now?!"
Fang’s Meat Industry, warehouse.
Fang Chang was dumbfounded. "Boss Su opens a restaurant, so how the hell did I get dragged into this mess?"
Jiang Yuan was wearing a long work coat, covered in dust from moving things around.
"Stop complaining. Are you going to turn down the chance to make money? Hurry up and sort the stock. I’ll go help move things."
Fang Chang took Jiang Yuan’s hand. "It’s after one. You should go home and rest. I can handle things here."
Seeing his wife about to protest, he said, "I married you so you could have a good life! If you keep this up, I’ll stop taking orders right now!"
Jiang Yuan could only nod. "Alright, you get back to it then. If you get hungry later, just order some takeout. Remember to call me when you’re coming home, and I’ll get the bathwater ready for you."
Only after sending Jiang Yuan off to her car did Fang Chang turn and head back into the warehouse.
