The Greatest Village Doctor In The World
Chapter 2750 - 2747: Statue
After Ling Feng and Song Ruozhao exchanged a look, Ling Feng was the first to ask, "Well? Planning to go in and take a look?"
"The whole reason I called you here was for this moment. How could I possibly back down now?" Song Ruozhao laughed loudly, rose into the air and leapt into the fissure. Ling Feng, standing on Little Fei’s back, followed right after and jumped into the crack as well.
After a long stretch of falling through darkness, Ling Feng finally realized they needed some light. He had Little Fei summon a large number of Fireflies to illuminate the road ahead—and even below—for their descent.
But the strange thing was, the moment the Fireflies appeared, their inner light went out in large numbers and then they died. No matter how many he released, it was the same. Even someone as cold-natured as Ling Feng was unwilling to let Little Fei release any more Fireflies.
If in the past those insects’ sacrifice had at least served some purpose, Ling Feng wouldn’t have felt so distressed. But this time they were dying in droves for no reason at all; even Ling Feng found that hard to accept.
Just as Ling Feng was trying to guess the cause of the Fireflies’ deaths, Little Fei, who was carrying him, suddenly spoke:
"Master, the aura here is very strange. Even I feel a bit unwell..."
Ling Feng was somewhat surprised. By rights, Little Fei could survive in extremely harsh environments. Yet now Little Fei was saying the aura here made it feel uncomfortable. Ling Feng could thus understand why so many Fireflies had died.
Even Little Fei was feeling unwell, its body even trembling; those far weaker Fireflies naturally wouldn’t be able to survive.
Ling Feng was a bit puzzled. It seemed this really wasn’t a good place; the aura here could actually make insects uncomfortable, even unable to live.
Ling Feng glanced at Song Ruozhao; in contrast, Song Ruozhao showed no reaction whatsoever, and Ling Feng himself felt nothing strange. It seemed this thing only affected insects.
After another very long stretch of falling, Ling Feng no longer knew how far down he had gone. Doubt stirred in his heart; this place was already Nine Nether, already the Lower Realm of the Nine Provinces—so why was there still somewhere this deep?
Just as Ling Feng was still lost in thought, they finally reached the ground. Ling Feng immediately withdrew Little Fei back into the Jade Pendant, afraid Little Fei might suffer irreversible harm like those Fireflies.
What unfolded before Ling Feng and Song Ruozhao next was a vast open space, something like a plaza. At the very center of the plaza stood a gigantic stone statue.
A faint yellow beam of light of unknown origin descended from above and shone upon the statue. This allowed Ling Feng and the others to see the plaza much more clearly; it was no longer as dim and lightless as before.
But around the edges of the plaza, in places where no light reached, there was still a deep, oppressive darkness.
"Outsiders, walk over before me. Let me see what you look like, what kind of people have such guts to come before me!"
That rumbling voice resounded again, coming from the direction of the statue.
Ling Feng and Song Ruozhao walked with steady steps to stand before the statue, and discovered that this huge statue was actually composed of two parts.
One part was the speaker from earlier, shaped like a middle-aged man, brandishing a sharp Long Spear in his hand, clad in heavy Armor on his body. His outfit didn’t resemble any era Ling Feng was familiar with.
And beneath the man’s crotch was a ferocious beast, with a tiger’s body and a dragon’s head, looking extremely savage.
But the two of them had both been petrified into unmoving gray stone statues. The beast could make no sound at all; only the armored man was able to speak.
Ling Feng looked up at the face of the armored man and found that his expression was frozen in a look of excited, jubilant roaring. When he looked at the man’s Long Spear again, Ling Feng guessed that back when the armored man had not yet been petrified, he must have been fighting some enemy.
"Who are you? State your name!" Ling Feng said casually, his tone oddly similar to that of the Blade of the Apocalypse. He didn’t know whether the weapon was like its master or the master like the weapon.
The armored man chuckled and laughed. "To dare be so impudent to me—you’re the first in ten thousand years!"
"And who do you think you are, to swagger around in front of me like that? You’re also the first!" Ling Feng shot back.
The armored man stopped laughing and rasped, "My name is Tianyang!"
"Boy, let me ask you: what is the world outside like now, and who is currently ruling that world?"
Ling Feng thought for a moment, but first asked, "You know this place is Nine Nether, right?"
"Hahahaha! Of course. Long ago this place was already called Nine Nether. I also know this is one of Nine Nether’s worlds..."
Ling Feng nodded, then said blandly, "Right now this world is called the Water Wave World in the outside, and the largest race is a bunch of fellows called the Shui Clan. If we had to say who currently dominates this world, it’d probably be the high-ups of the Shui Clan."
Tianyang laughed again, then his voice suddenly turned cold. In a tone filled with hatred and resentment, he said lowly, "As expected, it’s still those Shui Clan brats. To think after so many years, Shui Hong’s descendants still haven’t died out?"
"They really got off cheap!"
Ling Feng sharply picked up on the resentment and malice in the statue’s voice. Even Song Ruozhao was impacted by the powerful hateful emotion emanating from the statue, and his brows furrowed.
If an ordinary person were here, they might feel as if they couldn’t even breathe, because the powerful pressure radiating from the statue’s words almost swept the air clean around them.
Ling Feng sensed Tianyang’s emotional shift and the hidden meaning in his words, so he asked, "You have some feud with the Shui Clan, then? And who is this Shui Hong?"
"Heh, of course I have a deep grudge with the Shui Clan; otherwise I wouldn’t speak this way. The reason I ended up like this today is entirely thanks to the Shui Clan, entirely thanks to that bastard Shui Hong."
"Are your words true? What do you mean by that?" Song Ruozhao asked as well.
"Heh, this old man has no need to lie to two juniors like you. Do you know what this third layer world of Nine Nether was called back then?"
Ling Feng shook his head. "We’re outsiders in the first place. How would we know such secrets?"
"Makes sense. No wonder your skin isn’t that ugly blue like the Shui Clan, and you haven’t picked up much of this world’s aura—you’re outsiders, then."
"Back then this world wasn’t called the Water Wave World; it was called the Glorious World!"
Ling Feng was stunned by that name. It was actually such a domineering name?
"And the ones ruling this world weren’t the Shui Clan, but our Glorious Tribe!" Tianyang roared.
The beam of light above suddenly scattered, illuminating the entire underground world.
