The Grey Rat's Demon Path

Chapter 392 - 333: A Small Chat in the Pavilion, Honglan Fairy (Part 2)

Even with peerless cultivation, one could not escape the seven emotions and six desires.

Xu Chang’an said nothing, eating Spiritual Food and drinking Spirit Wine as he watched the lively pleasantries around him.

To be frank, although many members of the Demon Race in the Great Realm possessed high cultivation, their mental fortitude wasn’t necessarily greater than that of a Great Cultivator of Divinity Transformation from an ordinary world.

In ordinary worlds, Great Cultivators of Divinity Transformation were used to the loneliness of being at the pinnacle, cultivating in solitude.

They watched the world change, experiencing the endless vicissitudes of time.

However, the members of the Void Refining Demon Race and Harmonization Demon Race in the Great Realm might never comprehend such a Mental Realm.

Perhaps…

Only those Great Power Demon Fiends who had lived for countless eons could see past the mundane and transcend such concerns.

The arriving Fairies chatted cheerfully with the Demon Fiends inside the pavilion. Honglan Fairy, however, stood off to one side, her head tilted slightly upward with a condescending air.

Everyone’s Cultivation Realm was roughly the same, yet Honglan Fairy carried herself with a natural sense of superiority.

None of this, however, had much to do with Xu Chang’an.

He contentedly minded his own business, helping himself to the food and drinks.

This Spiritual Food and Spirit Wine, though insignificant, could at least accumulate a little Energy for his status panel.

Recreation is cultivation!

‘How delightful!’

“Fellow Daoist, what’s your name!?”

Just as Xu Chang’an was enjoying his meal, a Demon Fiend in a blue dress walked up to him.

The hand Xu Chang’an was reaching out for a Spirit Fruit with froze in mid-air.

‘What’s going on?’

‘There are so many Demon Fiends in this pavilion, why single me out?’

Xu Chang’an looked up, slightly bewildered.

This Demon Fiend’s looks and bearing were quite remarkable.

However…

‘Compared to Chu Xianyi, she’s not even in the same league!’

“And you are, Fairy…?”

He didn’t really want to engage, but since they were both Demon Fiends, he felt he should at least be considerate of her feelings.

“What’s wrong? Unwilling to tell me? I don’t mean any harm, I just want to get to know you!”

“Oh.”

Xu Chang’an lowered his head, acting withdrawn.

“I’m Grey Rat.”

“So you’re Grey Rat! A pleasure. My name is Yaya.”

As she spoke, the Demon Fiend Yaya reached out and touched Xu Chang’an’s shoulder.

‘What does she think she’s doing?’

Xu Chang’an was completely baffled.

He had deliberately lowered his head and acted withdrawn precisely to avoid too much interaction with this Demon Fiend.

‘Beautiful women not only complicate things, but they also attract a lot of hate!’

And sure enough, many of the Demon Fiends in the pavilion were now looking at him, their eyes glinting with envy.

“It’s a pleasure, Yaya! But I’m afraid I’ve just had a sudden insight. I must return to my room for secluded cultivation.”

With that, Xu Chang’an stood up, intentionally shrugging Yaya’s hand off his shoulder.

“What’s this? Don’t tell me you’re shy, Grey Rat!”

Yaya looked at Xu Chang’an with a teasing smile.

Her words sent the surrounding Demon Fiends into roaring laughter.

‘What’s with this Grey Rat? He’s acting like he’s never seen a Fairy before!’

‘Are Fairies really that scary?’

‘Other than shyness, there really seems to be no other explanation.’

“There’s no rush to go into seclusion, Grey Rat!” a Demon Fiend clad entirely in white gauze laughed sweetly. “Look who else is here!”

As she spoke, her gaze landed on the nearby Honglan Fairy, who stood with her characteristically condescending air.

The many Demon Fiends in the pavilion looked at Xu Chang’an, who was poised to leave.

They thought to themselves, ‘With Honglan Fairy here, would he really have the heart to leave?’

Honglan Fairy watched Xu Chang’an silently, fully expecting him to stay.

But to everyone’s surprise, Xu Chang’an only spared her a single glance before looking away.

“My apologies, fellow Daoists, but I really must go into seclusion!”

With that, Xu Chang’an cupped his fist in a salute and departed without hesitation.

He had essentially accomplished his purpose for coming out.

He had relaxed, gathered the information he needed, and overheard what was necessary.

All in all, it was a success.

Xu Chang’an’s swift and decisive departure left the many Demon Fiends in the pavilion slightly stunned.

“This…”

“Is there something wrong with that Grey Rat? Leaving even with Honglan Fairy here!?”

“Tch, what an act! He’s just playing hard to get! He should take a good look in the mirror!”

“Exactly! The man has no awareness. At this rate? He’ll probably never find any Dao Companions!”

“…”

Cultivating the Kui’s Treasure Demon Technique, Xu Chang’an’s perception was sharp. He easily intercepted and understood the Demon Sense communications within the pavilion.

He was speechless.

‘This bunch of…’

‘…are all just magical little Fairies, aren’t they!’

‘So it’s my fault for leaving?’

‘And to say I’ll never find any Dao Companions!’

‘Believe it or not, I could just bring out Chu Xianyi and rub her in all your faces!’

Of course, that was just a passing thought. Xu Chang’an wasn’t that childish.

Back in his guest room, he quickly calmed himself until his mind was as still as an ancient well, without a single ripple.

Including the Primordial Thunder Armor, Xu Chang’an possessed three Top-Grade Spiritual Treasures.

Over the years, he had attempted to devour Top-Grade Spiritual Treasures.

To accumulate Energy for his panel!

But unfortunately, he had always failed.

Although his foundation was solid and his cultivation had reached the Mid-stage of Unity Realm, he was ultimately still lacking something.

What he lacked was strength in his Demon Sense.

And the Kui’s Treasure Demon Technique, Bright and Pure Disaster Relief, happened to be a divine treasure technique that amplified Demon Sense!

Xu Chang’an speculated that if he could cultivate Bright and Pure Disaster Relief to the point of constructing 12 sets, his Demon Sense would rise again, and he should be able to attempt devouring Top-Grade Spiritual Treasures.

Based on his experience, one Upper-Grade Spiritual Treasure could provide anywhere from two million to three-point-six million Energy.

Extrapolating from that, even the lowest quality Top-Grade Spiritual Treasure would provide over eight million panel Energy!

Three Top-Grade Spiritual Treasures would mean at least twenty-five million panel Energy!

To break through from Mid-stage Unity to Late-stage Unity, he needed a total of one hundred million accumulated Energy.

Therefore, he would need to devour around twelve Top-Grade Spiritual Treasures to ensure he had enough Energy accumulated to break through to the next Realm.

If the Top-Grade Spiritual Treasures he devoured were of exceptional quality, he would need even fewer.

“Top-Grade Spiritual Treasures…”

Xu Chang’an sighed.

An ordinary Shangyang-level Demon Fiend of considerable means might possess several Upper-Grade Spiritual Treasures.

But there weren’t many Shangyang-level Demon Fiends who possessed a Top-Grade Spiritual Treasure!

To guarantee a haul of Top-Grade Spiritual Treasures, the target would have to be at least a Ji Meng-level Demon Fiend!

Or even… a Qinyuan Level!

With his current strength, Xu Chang’an couldn’t be sure about a Qinyuan-level Demon Fiend, but he felt reasonably confident against one at the Ji Meng Level.

‘It’s not time yet!’

‘If you walk by the river long enough, your shoes are bound to get wet. Acting rashly will only bring disaster!’

‘But if a suitable opportunity presents itself… I can act accordingly!’

Xu Chang’an sat cross-legged on the Meditation Jade Platform and resumed his efforts to comprehend Bright and Pure Disaster Relief.

As he condensed more and more Bloodline vortexes, Xu Chang’an grew increasingly proficient.

Constructing the first set took him fifty-two years.

The second set took him only thirty years.

As for the upcoming third set, Xu Chang’an predicted it would take twenty-five years at most.

In the years that followed, Xu Chang’an never once stepped out of his private room.

Instead, he immersed himself completely in cultivating Bright and Pure Disaster Relief.

And so, another sixty-eight years passed.

“The fifth set is complete!”

Xu Chang’an opened his eyes, a flicker of joy on his face.

His progress had been incredibly fast over the years, and his understanding of Bright and Pure Disaster Relief had deepened significantly.

Xu Chang’an cleared his mind, adjusted his condition, and rested for just three days.

Then, he once again threw himself into the task of condensing Bloodline vortexes.

The journey to the Blood Rock Land would take three thousand years.

Just over a hundred years had passed so far. He still had plenty of time for secluded comprehension.

“Continue!”

Xu Chang’an closed his eyes once more.

Thus, another three years passed.

The Spiritual Ship flew at an extreme velocity, more than ten times faster than a member of the Harmonization Demon Race at full speed.

At such a ferocious speed, the resistance it faced should have been immense. Logically, the Spiritual Ship’s hull ought to have been trembling violently.

Yet inside the Spiritual Ship, Xu Chang’an couldn’t feel the slightest tremor.

Then one day, the Spiritual Ship’s massive hull suddenly began to shudder.

“What’s happening?”

In that same instant, Xu Chang’an’s eyes snapped open and he looked outside the Spiritual Ship.

The light enveloping the Spiritual Ship’s hull flickered erratically.

It seemed as though some incredibly fierce Divine Techniques were continuously bombarding it.

This forced the Spiritual Ship’s speed to decrease.

His Demon Sense spread out from his body, scanning the surroundings.

Xu Chang’an’s expression changed.
