The Heiress They Lost Came Back Overpowered
Chapter 284 - 283: This Woman Is Starting to Spread Her Charm Everywhere Again
The Lowell Group.
When the receptionist saw Yvonne Lowell striding into the company lobby, she quickly stood up to greet her, her tone tinged with pleasant surprise.
"Miss Lowell! Are you here to see President Lowell?"
’Did she finally remember she owns a piece of the Lowell Group? Is she finally done focusing only on Pluto? The last time she came to the Lowell Group was... well, the last time!’
’She’s only ever come twice in total, but each time, she ordered ridiculously expensive and delicious food for everyone, so she’s still a frequent topic of conversation in the company’s private group chat.’
Pluto Kingsland Branch: ...Be grateful. This ancestor of ours only showed up once when the branch first opened. For the past few years, we’ve only seen her in trending topics online.
As for that ridiculously expensive and delicious food you mentioned, what’s that? Is it edible? How much better could it be than our own cafeteria?
HAHAHAHAHA WAHHHHHHHHH HAHAHAHAHA (;′??Д??`;)
"Mhm, no need to announce me. I’m just here to drop off some food." Yvonne Lowell gave a slight nod.
"Oh, right. I’ve ordered some afternoon tea that will be delivered when you all start your afternoon shift. When it arrives, could you please help distribute it to all the departments? There’s enough for everyone."
"Of course, of course! It’s no trouble at all. Thank you, Miss Lowell!"
’The receptionist’s eyes were practically sparkling as she looked at her. The front desk staff knew the procedure for this by heart! After all, they were in charge every time.’
’Besides, all they had to do was post a message in the group chat, and each department would send someone down to pick it up. They were way more proactive about this than meeting their deadlines. It was no trouble at all!’
’Damn it! This woman is spreading her charm everywhere again!’
’Big Sis! Wait for me in my next life! I’ll be reborn into a good family with a Y chromosome and come marry you!’
"You’re welcome."
Yvonne Lowell carried the food container and expertly navigated her way to the president’s private elevator.
Early this morning, Ms. Sutton had called her, saying that her foolish older brother hadn’t been home in over a week and was sleeping at the office every night.
When she asked if he was in some kind of trouble, he just said everything was fine.
So, she figured she would have Yvonne, his ’peer’ and mentor, come over to offer some guidance and get Caleb Lowell to stop bottling everything up. And while she was at it, to haul him back home for dinner.
’Excuse me???’
’Besides, isn’t Ms. Sutton’s husband a lot more experienced in these matters?!’
Not to mention, as the Family Head, how could Charles Lowell possibly be unaware of what’s going on with the company?!
She seriously suspected her dear old mother was just tired of seeing her lazing around at home all day and, annoyed that she hadn’t brought the Leogryph back for her to play with, was deliberately sending her on a wild goose chase!
But thanks to Ms. Sutton’s maternal authority, she had no choice but to agree, so here she was, visiting the office with takeout from Prosperity Pavilion.
DING.
The elevator doors opened, and Yvonne Lowell stepped out.
Outside the adjacent staff elevator stood a man with a mixed-race appearance. He wore a work badge around his neck, but the photo was turned inward, and he seemed to be holding a file.
Out of the corner of her eye, Yvonne Lowell happened to notice a scar on the back of his right hand, about two knuckles long. Beneath this long scar, a round scar was partially covered.
When the man saw her, he was visibly stunned for a moment before instantly plastering on a signature professional smile. "Miss Lowell."
The man spoke in slightly clumsy Aurelian, which seemed to contradict his polished, elite appearance.
Yvonne Lowell glanced up at him, her expression neutral as she nodded.
"Hello."
With that, she disappeared around the corner without a backward glance.
The man glanced toward the corner out of the corner of his eye, the smile on his face instantly vanishing without a trace.
He adjusted his glasses and stepped into the elevator.
...
Assistant Grant had just stepped out of the president’s office when he saw Yvonne Lowell walking toward him.
He quickly hurried forward. "Miss Lowell, what brings you here?"
"Food delivery," Yvonne Lowell said, holding up the food container.
"Brother Grant, take a break. Put your files down and come eat with us. I brought enough for three."
"Alright, the boss is inside. You go on in, I’ll be right there."
Assistant Grant didn’t stand on ceremony with her. After a quick word, he headed to his own office first.
Yvonne Lowell knocked on the door. After hearing a "Come in," she pushed the door open and walked inside.
"Hello, your Yvonne Express order has arrived. Please sign for it in a timely manner."
Caleb Lowell looked up, his stern, serious face softening a little.
"What are you doing here? I was starting to think you didn’t even know where the Lowell Group was."
"I have been here before, you know," Yvonne Lowell retorted with a pout, placing the food container on the coffee table.
"Mom said you haven’t been home in over a week, so she sent me to do a surprise inspection and see if you’re really in some kind of trouble."
She subconsciously scanned Caleb Lowell’s office with her superpower. Aside from the surveillance devices he had installed himself, she didn’t find any other listening bugs or pinhole cameras.
Caleb Lowell’s face stiffened. ’Who hasn’t been home in over a week? Me?’
’Didn’t I just go home for dinner two days ago? After I ate, I even called that guy Gu and chewed him out...’
’What new scheme is this that requires my cooperation? Couldn’t they at least have given me the script beforehand?!’
Wendy Sutton: If we rehearsed it beforehand, your reaction wouldn’t be genuine. Besides, sweetie, Mommy believes in you. It’s time to test your ability to improvise.
When Yvonne Lowell turned back around, his dazed expression caught her eye.
No matter how she looked at it, he seemed to be facing a problem that he found hard to talk about, so he chose to bear it all alone in silence.
It had to be said, Ms. Sutton had a perfect read on her children’s minds.
"What exactly is going on? Even Dad hasn’t heard anything, which means it isn’t a company problem. So what is it?"
Yvonne Lowell sat down across from him, her brows furrowed as she said in a low voice, "Don’t tell me you’re all in on something and hiding it from me."
Caleb Lowell’s mind raced, and he quickly came up with a strategy.
"What could we possibly conspire to hide from you? And could we even hide it from you, Director Lowell?"
Caleb Lowell smiled calmly, then his tone seemed to become a little sheepish. "But if I tell you, can you promise not to tell Mom and Dad?"
’Caleb Lowell had already guessed that his dear old mother was using him as a decoy to lure Yvonne to the company and create a diversion for Grant the Dog.’
’Grant the Dog, for the sake of letting you prepare a marriage proposal for my own sister, I, her actual brother, am throwing my pride out the window.’
’If I don’t drink you under the table next time, I’ll take your last name! ?ヽ(`Д′)?┻━┻’
Yvonne Lowell was unmoved. "Let’s hear it first."
"It’s nothing major, really. My workload has just been a bit heavy recently. Plus, the overseas branch has a few new business ventures they want to explore, and I’ve been thinking about their feasibility, so I’ve been spending more time at the office."
Yvonne Lowell couldn’t stop her lips from twitching. "That’s it?!"
’She thought her brother’s spring had arrived, that his peach blossoms were in bloom—that he was worrying about matters of the heart, or too busy with a new romance to come home.’
’And this is all it was?! Argh!!!’
’Is my time not valuable?!’
’Do you have any idea how many episodes of a palace intrigue drama I could have watched on 2x speed in this amount of time?!’
