Chapter 283: Chapter 282: I Know You’re Anxious, but Don’t Be Anxious
“Master, Rain— I mean, Falling Valley Mountain Villa is ready as you requested. Ian Lynch and the others have already inspected it. No issues.”
Silas Lynch handed over a tablet. The screen displayed numerous small windows showing a live, 360-degree, no-blind-spot surveillance feed of a manor.
‘Tsk, I almost tripped over my tongue and said the manor’s old name, Rainwood Manor.’
When the Master turned eighteen, Elder Grant, with a grand wave of his hand, gifted him an entire mountaintop as both a coming-of-age present and a congratulatory gift for taking power.
Rainwood Manor was built back then, designed by a famous architect he’d hired for a hefty price. It’s a magnificent European-style manor situated halfway up that mountain.
But Rainwood Manor was completed several years ago, and he never lived there permanently. He usually stayed in his apartment opposite the company or at Tidalview.
‘It was as if the manor’s only purpose was to take up space. But doesn’t he own the entire mountain? What’s the point of “taking up space”? Is this what having too much money to spend looks like?!’
Not to mention, after getting together with Miss Lowell, as long as she was in Kingsland and at Tidalview, he would only stay at Tidalview.
‘And he wasn’t even staying in the house he bought himself. He was fully committed to the freeloader lifestyle.’
Silas Lynch and the others had been wondering why this love-struck fool hadn’t taken Miss Lowell back to his place or even mentioned it to her after all this time.
‘As the old saying goes, when the master is quiet, he must be stirring up trouble!’
‘Turns out he was making big moves on the quiet. Directly changing the name to turn it into their marital home, how about that?’
‘Falling Valley Mountain Villa… or Lowell-Grant Mountain Villa, is that it?’
‘So it’s trendy to take the wife’s surname these days? Then maybe he should…?’
Leo Grant took the tablet and gave it a cursory glance, asking in a mild tone, “What about the things I asked for?”
“They’re all prepared. Everything was delivered there last night. Also, the flowers will be airlifted to Falling Valley Mountain Villa at dawn today. I’ll be in charge of coordinating the delivery,” Silas Lynch replied respectfully.
Leo Grant grabbed his jacket from the side and headed for the door. “Let’s go. We’ll take a look, and call a few people over to help.”
“Yes, sir!” Silas Lynch hurried to follow, pulling out his phone to start rounding people up.
*When you get the call, you better rush on over~ When you get the message, you better fly on over~*
…
「Falling Valley Mountain Villa.」
“I have to say, Leo Grant has pretty good taste. This happens to be one of Yvonne’s favorite decor styles.”
Nina Jennings observed the manor’s scenery through the car window.
Zachary Jacobs smirked playfully. “I bet their manor in Country M gave him some reassurance. Otherwise, I suspect he would have torn this place down and rebuilt it as a classical Chinese garden.”
After all, whether at Tidalview or on Apeiron, Yvonne Lowell’s houses were all in the Chinese style.
But she actually likes European decor too. Her properties in Country M and several other countries are all European-style.
It wasn’t because she was trying to “do as the Romans do”; she simply liked it.
Otherwise, with her temper, she probably would’ve done the same as Grant: just buy the land, tear down the house, and rebuild.
“I think he would’ve just thrown money at the problem and bought a new, large Chinese-style courtyard home. After all, time is short and the mission is critical. He couldn’t wait for a rebuild,” Nina Jennings said.
The two exchanged a look and smiled, a silent understanding passing between them.
Based on their understanding of Leo Grant, a single glance was enough to confirm: that was definitely something he would do.
Besides, the man was single-mindedly focused on marrying her right now. He wouldn’t be willing to wait for a house to be rebuilt.
Leo Grant: ‘Don’t try to guess a handsome man’s thoughts. You’ll never figure them out… Okay, fine, you figured them out. Happy now? You two cold, heartless people!’
Nina Jennings and Zachary Jacobs were escorted by guards to a side hall where Nolan Crawford, Evan Lynch, and a few others had procured a mahjong table from who-knows-where. They had just enough for a game, and it was in full, boisterous swing.
The four heard footsteps and instinctively looked up. Seeing who it was, they just nodded in greeting before their attention snapped right back to the mahjong table.
‘They were all old friends, after all. Why not just make themselves at home? Being polite would just make things awkward.’
The corner of Zachary Jacobs’s mouth twitched, and he cut them off.
“No offense, but is it really okay for you to call us over to help while you’re just sitting here slacking off?!”
Half an hour ago, Grant had called him, said “Check your messages,” and hung up.
He opened his messaging app to find only a location pin from Silas Lynch, plus the message: ‘Confidential. Come quick’???
‘…Seriously, who let those two develop such a terrible habit? He certainly didn’t have this attitude a few days ago when he was asking him and Nina Jennings for a drink and to help keep a secret!!’
‘And is this any way to treat your future brother-in-law?! Does he even want to get married anymore?! ARGH!!!’
“Angus, I know you’re eager to get started, but take it easy. The major construction is all done. We have to wait for Brother Grant to get here before we can start on the decor. We’re just taking an entertainment break. There’s food, drinks, and games on the side. Help yourselves!”
Nolan Crawford explained calmly, without even looking up.
Zachary Jacobs: ‘…Impressive. I know you’re great at spouting nonsense, but could you maybe stop for a second?’
Nina Jennings paid him no mind, sat down on the sofa, and waved a deck of cards she had just picked up.
“Wanna play? A million a hand.”
Hearing this, Zachary Jacobs’s interest was piqued. “You’re on. Just don’t go backing out of it later.”
‘If you can’t beat them, join them.’
‘The man in charge isn’t worried, so why should they be?’
‘Besides, only a fool passes up free money. A million a hand? Only an idiot would say no.’
“As if I’m short on your money. Hurry up and shuffle.” Nina Jennings tossed the deck to him.
About half an hour later, Nolan Crawford and the others—who could apparently identify people by the sound of their cars or something—suddenly stood up.
They even remembered to clean up the mahjong table and unplug it, pretending like nothing had happened.
The security camera on the ceiling: ‘…Hi? Are you treating me like I’m—ah, no, do you think I’m broken or something?’
“Brother Grant’s here. You two, finish the hand you’re on, but that’s it. Time to get to work.”
Nolan Crawford stood up, not forgetting to call out to the two playing cards.
“Oh, really? Then I’m done. I need to go see if my Silas is here yet.”
Nina Jennings threw her cards down and hurried out.
“Hey… I said finish this hand first!”
Zachary Jacobs stared speechlessly at the doorway, but Nina Jennings was already long gone.
‘He’d already lost five hands in a row. He finally gets a good hand, and it just dies on the vine like this?! Wasted before it even had a chance?!’
Suddenly thinking of something, Zachary Jacobs whipped his head around and flipped over the cards Nina Jennings had thrown down.
“Damn it! Jennings, you transfer the money for this hand to me right now!!!”
‘No wonder she was in such a hurry to bolt. Her hand was absolute crap. If it were him, he’d have run too.’
‘The only difference was, one of them could get away with it, and the other couldn’t.’
