"Hahaha! Die! Die, all of you!"

A mounted soldier swung his sword at an old man in front of him, cutting him down.

"D-Don't kill me!"

Another man pleaded for his life, but the soldier mercilessly cut off his head.

This wasn't happening in just one place. People throughout the city were being slaughtered without mercy.

Headless bodies, babies cut in half, and women being assaulted by the soldiers painted a horrific scene throughout the city.

Those who managed to survive tried to flee, but there was nowhere for them to escape.

"Hahaha! This is the taste of conquest!"

Corvin raised his sword and laughed heartily. The blade was covered in the blood of the people he had just killed.

"Come on, everyone! Kill them all! Capture the women and kill the weak!"

"Yes, General!" the soldiers replied enthusiastically.

Humans were more cruel than demons or any other creatures in this world.

Only laws and conscience kept them from giving in to their cruel nature. But when both were stripped away, they lost control and became no different from wild beasts.

Corvin tugged on his horse's reins and slowly rode past the pile of corpses below.

"What a beautiful sight," he whispered contentedly.

Watching people die was incredibly satisfying to him. It sent shivers down his spine, like an electric current running through his entire body.

Suddenly, he spotted a man wearing black armor and a helmet that completely covered his face.

The man sat quietly on his horse, making no attempt to join the slaughter like the other soldiers.

"Oh?"

Corvin raised his eyebrows slightly as a smile spread across his face.

He approached the man and asked playfully, "Why are you just sitting there, Prince Aldric? Are you uncomfortable?"

The man, none other than Aldric, remained silent and didn't answer.

"Tsk!"

Corvin clicked his tongue and chuckled softly.

"Is this the first time you've seen a massacre? No, this should be the third time, right? We've slaughtered other cities as well, and I've seen you just stand there doing nothing. Could it be that you feel sorry for them?"

Aldric remained silent.

Corvin shook his head and tugged on his horse's reins.

"Enjoy it. There'll be plenty more massacres in the future."

With that, he rode off to join his soldiers in their celebration.

Aldric hadn't said a single word the entire time. His face was pale and empty.

But there was one thing Corvin failed to notice.

A faint glimmer appeared in Aldric's lifeless red eyes.

…

"Duke Jason, come out! We demand an explanation!"

"Duke Jason, please help us!"

"Duke Malvain! Please, look at us! My town has been destroyed by them! Help us!"

Dozens of noble family heads, from barons to counts, had gathered outside Duke Malvain's gates.

The soldiers held them back to prevent them from entering, but they refused to leave. They continued shouting for Jason Malvain, hoping he would hear them.

"Duke Malvain is busy! Go away, all of you!" one of the soldiers snapped.

"Damn it! You're just a lowly soldier!" a viscount retorted, his eyes red with anger. "I didn't come here to cause trouble. I just want a solution!"

"Yes, that's right!" a baron chimed in, his face pale. "My town will be the next target! We don't have the military strength to defend ourselves! Please summon Duke Malvain as soon as possible!"

Faced with resistance from so many noble family heads, the soldiers began to feel overwhelmed.

They could have used force against them, but doing so would only backfire.

After all, each of them held a lot of influence and power.

Meanwhile, Fenric watched from a distance, unable to hide his panic.

Just as he had feared, the nobles had finally arrived. If no one stopped them, they would only become more aggressive. Chaos was inevitable.

"What should I do?"

Fenric bit his nails, looking panicked and frustrated.

Jason had forbidden anyone from entering his office. Even Fenric couldn't simply walk in like he usually did.

He had also warned Fenric not to let any of the nobles come before him.

"Argh!"

Fenric scratched his head in despair.

"I'm completely stuck!"

Suddenly, he remembered the queen.

"That's right… Her Majesty Vanessa has that ability!"

A smile immediately spread across his face as he hurried inside and made his way to Vanessa's room.

When he arrived, he was stunned. Six soldiers were guarding the door to her room, each with a sword hanging at his waist.

Seeing him approach, one of the soldiers bowed his head.

"Do you need something, Advisor Fenric?"

Fenric tried to steady his wildly pounding heart.

"I'd like to see Her Majesty. May I come in?"

The soldier was about to refuse, but another soldier quickly interrupted.

"All right. But only for five minutes. Those are Duke Malvain's orders."

Fenric breathed a sigh of relief. He had thought he'd be turned away, but fortunately, he wasn't.

After being allowed in, Fenric opened the door and stepped inside.

His expression changed instantly when he saw what was before him.

The queen's chamber was completely dark, with not a single ray of light except for the faint slivers filtering through the curtains covering the windows.

The queen was sitting at her dressing table, calmly fixing her hair.

"Y-Your Majesty," he greeted her respectfully, his voice trembling.

Vanessa's hand paused for a moment, but only briefly. She continued combing her hair as if Fenric's presence didn't affect her.

Fenric swallowed hard. Vanessa was acting very strangely. He didn't know what had happened to her over the past few days.

But for the sake of Duke Malvain's mansion, he quickly gathered his courage and said, "Your Majesty, bad news! Nobles from various cities have come to protest! This is serious! Please convince Lord Jason to meet with them!"

He bowed his head, his body trembling uncontrollably.

Vanessa was Jason's younger sister and the queen as well. Her authority was unquestionable.

Silence filled the room.

Fenric's hopes immediately crumbled.

He looked up and saw Vanessa still sitting there in silence as she combed her hair.

His heart pounded as cold sweat ran down his neck.

He swallowed hard before calling out, "Your Majesty?"

Vanessa didn't answer.

Fenric was about to call out to her again when Vanessa finally spoke.

23:33

"There is no hope for the southern region. Nor is there any hope for this empire."

Her words pierced Fenric's heart like a sword.

"Y-Your Majesty—"

"Advisor Fenric, your time is up. Please leave."

A soldier's voice came from behind him.

Fenric opened his mouth, then closed it again. He wanted to say something, but no words came out.

In the end, he gave up and turned away with his head bowed.

"The southern region will be completely destroyed this time," he whispered, his voice filled with despair.
