Chapter 484: Chapter 483: A Pagoda from the Sky
Among towering mountains, wreathed in mist.
In the heart of a vast forest, within a massive lake dozens of miles across, thousands of pythons flicked their tongues. They broke the surface leisurely to bask in the warm sunlight, a trace of contentment showing in their otherwise cold, ruthless eyes.
At that moment, a pitch-black shadow surfaced from the lake. Seeing it, the surrounding pythons scattered with rustling hisses. A giant white python with a head dozens of yards wide emerged, letting out a deafening hiss.
The thousands of Fierce Beasts in the forest acted as if they had met their king, prostrating themselves on the ground, their bodies trembling. A look of arrogance flashed in the giant white python’s eyes. It raised its head to gaze into the distance, as if awaiting someone’s arrival.
Before long, a figure appeared, approaching from the distance. The newcomer wore a gray robe and appeared to be in his thirties or forties. His eyes were as sharp as an eagle’s, his posture as straight as a pine. He arrived before the giant white python and said indifferently, "Where is the item I came for?"
The white python, this king of a hundred beasts, showed frustration and reluctance in its eyes. Then, as if accepting its fate, it opened its cavernous mouth. Two fangs, like white iron pillars glinting with cold light, were revealed. Its forked tongue then curled, hooking a huge, head-sized white bead from the depths of its throat.
The White Python Bead pulsed with white light, exuding a sinister chill. The cold was so intense that the mucus at the base of the giant white python’s tongue showed signs of freezing. The moment it spat out the Bead, the python’s pale yellow eyes filled with reluctance and resentment.
"Very good," the middle-aged man in the gray robe said indifferently, though a flicker of delight crossed his face. He waved his hand, collecting the Bead. "Rest assured, this Thousand Python Lake will absolutely not be affected by the Qingkong Influence."
"See that you remember your promise," the white python sneered.
At that moment, a loud laugh echoed from the distance.
"Haha, so the intelligence was correct after all."
A burly, thick-browed man suddenly appeared before the great serpent and the middle-aged man. A cold smile played on his lips, his eyes glinting with a dangerous light. "Qingkong City Lord, Mo Bokong, the time has finally come to settle the score between us."
The middle-aged man’s pupils shrank, and his expression turned grave. "It’s you... the Jinlin City Lord." A thousand thoughts raced through his mind, but his expression remained a perfect mask.
"What are you doing here?"
"Hmph. You don’t need to concern yourself with that."
"Because I came for your life today!"
A bloodthirsty look appeared on the Jinlin City Lord’s face. He spoke in a cold voice, and then a surging aura erupted from his body, churning the void. Streams of True Intent burst forth, permeating the heavens and the earth and causing ripples to spread across the lake’s surface.
Affected by this aura, countless pythons trembled, flipped over, and dove to the bottom of the lake. Even the Python King, the king of beasts, felt a chill upon sensing this power. Its pale yellow pupils contracted, and it became wary.
Seeing this, the Qingkong City Lord sneered, took a step forward, and an aura no less powerful than the Jinlin City Lord’s erupted from him. "Hmph. You think you have what it takes?"
’This kind of aura... could the intelligence have been wrong?!’
A look of shock and uncertainty appeared on the Jinlin City Lord’s face. Suddenly, he noticed the fine beads of sweat on the Qingkong City Lord’s forehead and sneered, "Ha! Why bother posturing? Sixty years ago, you were severely injured in the Slaughter Ruins. Ever since, you’ve had to come here every twenty years to get the White Python Bead to suppress your injuries. Did you really think I didn’t know? Today, with your injuries flaring up, you will surely die!"
Though inwardly alarmed, the Qingkong City Lord’s expression remained calm. He said in a grim tone, "That is true. But in the past sixty years, I have consumed two White Python Beads in succession, and my injuries have long since healed. Whoever gave you that information certainly bears you no goodwill."
"Lies."
"Why don’t you put it to the test?"
At that, the Jinlin City Lord turned to the Python King and said indignantly, "The great king of your kind, threatened by a mere human for so long! If you have any dignity as a Beast King left, join me today, and we will slay him here and now!!"
The Python King had lived for a very long time; how could it not see through the Jinlin City Lord’s intentions? It flicked its tongue and said, "I will not involve myself in the conflicts of you humans."
As its words faded, its massive body submerged into the lake. Its eyes, however, remained fixed on the two men, watching them intently through the water. Moments later, the two great City Lords shot into the sky. An instant after, two supremely tyrannical energies erupted, whipping up fierce winds and roiling the clouds. The Energy Aftermath spread out for tens of miles.
"Haha, Mo Bokong, you really are severely injured! You can only use twenty or thirty percent of your power as an Era-Defining King! You will die today for sure!"
"Who was it? Who was the informant!"
High in the sky, Qingkong City Lord Mo Bokong clutched his chest, a trickle of blood seeping from the corner of his mouth. Within the acupoints all over his body, small, grayish-white flames surged.
This was not one of his techniques, but his... injury!
’This is the injury I sustained sixty years ago in the Slaughter Ruins from the Yang Evil. It’s lingered in my body ever since, impossible to purge. I came today to get the White Python Bead to suppress it, but I never imagined I’d run into the Jinlin City Lord. Who was it? Who on earth told him!’
’I never told anyone about my injury. It must have been those old bastards back in the city. They figured it out. They’ve been coveting my position as City Lord for ages. To think they’d actually collude with an outsider to get what they want!’
"You will never know who told me."
The Jinlin City Lord sneered. He then gathered the Heaven and Earth Primordial Qi into his palm, and his True Intent manifested. Vaguely, huge golden carp began to form behind him. They used True Intent as their bodies and Primordial Qi as water, swimming and playing so vividly they seemed alive.
"Die!!"
As he spoke, a hundred golden fish dove from high above, leaping toward Mo Bokong with the cataclysmic force to overturn rivers and seas. Their forms flickered unpredictably. They appeared auspicious, but their eyes were filled with monstrous killing intent!
"If you want me dead, you’ll have to pay the price!"
Mo Bokong was never one to be captured without a fight. He suddenly roared at the sky, the sound waves rolling out. He stopped suppressing the injury in his body, allowing the grayish-white flames to spread across him. Then, his True Intent erupted, and his True Essence condensed.
Frost and snow filled the air as a terrifyingly cold aura emanated from Mo Bokong. The void for miles around him froze solid, creating a world of ice and snow. The hundred golden fish leaped into this frozen world, but before they had traveled even a thousand yards, their bodies began to slow, on the verge of being frozen solid.
"Hmph. A bold move, but it will only hasten your death."
The Jinlin City Lord smiled indifferently, waving his palm and activating both his True Intent and True Essence. The hundred golden fish instantly exploded. The force of the detonation shattered the world of ice and snow. The resulting shockwave slammed into the already overwhelmed Mo Bokong, sending him flying for thousands of yards before he crashed hard into the ground.
"Now, allow me to send you on your way."
Just as the Jinlin City Lord was about to deliver the killing blow, ripples suddenly appeared in the void. A vortex materialized, and a white Nine-Layered Treasure Tower descended from the heavens, hurtling directly toward the Jinlin City Lord.
