The Luna You Betrayed Is No Longer Yours
Chapter 259 Change of plans
Chapter 259: Chapter 259 Change of plans
_Kyle’s POV_
I went to Rowena’s hospital room, holding the glass syringe inside my coat pocket. My fingers wrapped tightly around while I thought of a few things. Today was the day. One final, concentrated dose of the liquid, and her heart would stop beating within hours.
I pushed the door open, stepping inside with my usual polite smile.
Rowena was sitting up in her bed, looking slightly better than yesterday, though her skin was still far paler than normal. She looked up at me when I closed the door.
"How are you feeling today, Rowena?" I asked, walking over to her bedside table and setting my tray down.
"A little better," Rowena murmured, pulling her blanket up around her shoulders. "The chest pain is gone, but I still feel very weak."
"That is expected," I said, reaching into my pocket for the syringe. "I brought your next dose of medication. This will help strengthen your body so you can stand—"
Before I could finish my sentence, a loud knock echoed on the door of the room.
My chief nurse stepped inside, looking nervous as she bowed her head to me. "Dr. Kyle, I am so sorry to interrupt, but Alpha King Alaric has just entered the main hospital lobby. He is conducting an unannounced safety inspection of all medical wings."
I froze for a brief second, my jaw tightening in annoyance. Alaric was the last person I needed wandering around this floor right now. If he walked into this room and saw Rowena hooked up to an unrecorded IV line, everything would explode into chaos.
"Tell the security team to guide him through the ground floor first," I ordered the nurse, keeping my voice completely calm. "I will be down in five minutes."
"Yes, Doctor," the nurse said, closing the door behind her.
I let out a slow breath, sliding the syringe back into my coat pocket. I could not give her the final shot right now. If Alaric insisted on checking her room during his inspection, he would notice her heart rate dropping instantly on the monitors.
Suddenly, Rowena’s phone on the bedside table began to ring loudly, the screen lighting up with Alaric’s caller ID.
Rowena reached over to grab it, but she looked up at me with hesitant eyes, holding her finger over the green button. "Should I answer it?"
I put on my gentlest, most reassuring smile and nodded. "Yes. Answer it, Rowena. Talk to him normally and assure him that you are fine. If you do not answer, he will get suspicious and come looking for you immediately."
Rowena nodded, tapping the screen and bringing the phone to her ear. "Alaric?"
"Rowena," Alaric’s deep, booming voice came through the phone speaker. "Where are you right now? I stopped by your office at the estate, but your guards said you left yesterday."
"I am fine, Alaric," Rowena said, keeping her tone cool and completely normal. "I am just staying at a place away from everything to rest for a couple of days. The political stress was giving me a headache."
Alaric went silent on the line for a moment. He clearly did not suspect a single thing. "Alright. Just make sure you stay safe. Call me if you need anything."
"I will," Rowena said, ending the call and laying the phone back down on the blanket.
She looked up at me, taking a deep breath. "Kyle, we need to leave this hospital. If Alaric is downstairs doing an inspection, he might walk up here anyway. I do not want him finding me like this."
I considered her words for a moment. Leaving the hospital was actually better for me. Away from the guards, the cameras, and Alaric’s inspection team, finishing her off would be even easier.
"I have a private fun house on the outer edge of the city," I suggested with a small tilt of my head. "It is a comfortable house away from the main roads. No one from the Packhouse knows about it. We can go there, and I can monitor your health without any interruptions."
Rowena let out a laugh, a faint smirk touching her lips as she looked at me. "A private fun house? Why does a nerd like you own a place like that?"
I chuckled, playing along with her joke as I helped her swing her legs over the edge of the bed. "A doctor needs a place to escape the stress too, Rowena."
It felt completely natural talking to him. She did not suspect a single thing.
Ten minutes later, I helped her out through the back service exit of the hospital and into my car, driving straight toward the fun house at the other side of the city.

_Alaric’s POV_
I sat at the conference table in the council hall, my hands clenched tightly together on the surface.
One of the elders stood at the head of the table, flanked by four other high ranking pack elders. They had spent the last two hours arguing over pack laws, blah blah.
"We have discussed the matter thoroughly, Alpha King," he declared, his deep, stern voice echoing off the walls. "Given the public interest in Lady Brielle’s pregnancy and the pressure from the allied packs, the council has decided to forego the thirty-day engagement period entirely. The marriage ceremony will take place in two days."
My jaw clenched so hard my teeth ached. A wave of suffocating Alpha aura rolled off my skin, making the elders flinch slightly, but the first elder held his ground.
"You cannot force an immediate wedding under law without full approval," I growled out, my eyes glowing with rage.
"We have full authority under the emergency bloodline act," the elder replied flatly, holding up an official paper signed by all five elders. "The date is set. Lady Brielle must be recognized as the legal Luna Queen before the full moon."
They set a formal schedule on the table. "Today, you must accompany Lady Brielle to the district to select her wedding gown for the ceremony. The media will be present."
I stood up from my chair, my shoulders tense with a suffocating rage. I felt completely trapped by their laws and political games.
I pulled out my phone and looked at Rowena’s contact name. I had talked to her on the phone just an hour ago while walking into the hospital lobby, but something inside my gut kept telling me she was not okay.
Her voice had sounded slightly too quiet and too distant. I wanted to drop everything, march out of the council hall, and find her immediately.
I stared at the screen for a long moment, my thumb hovering over her number.
I knew I could not leave right now without the elders filing an emergency motion to freeze my Alpha authority completely. I needed to keep them calm for just a little longer.
I closed my phone and shoved it into my pocket, letting out a long growl.
I would go with Brielle to buy her stupid dress and satisfy the elders for the afternoon. But the moment I returned to the packhouse tonight, I was going to find Rowena and figure out what was really going on.
