The Mafia Lord Forgotten Bride
Chapter 125: Amie’s Disappointment.
After what felt like a long week, Amie was finally in a good mood.
It was as she had expected. Serena had taken her side and told Chris to add her biometrics to the system and had also gotten her a new car.
The car wasn’t exactly the type she wanted, but it was better than the one she was using.
Even better, Serena had given her the car key in Chris’s presence.
That morning, she drove to the company with an air of confidence. Finally, she could access places she couldn’t before.
This was the first day Amie actually looked forward to going to the office.
Once she got to her usual seat, Karen and Lamie were already seated, waiting to give her an update on what was happening.
But before they could say a word, Amie asked Lamie, "Could you show me some of the places only important people with biometrics can go?"
Because of the way Amie had acted towards the head of department on her first day, she barely had a good relationship with him.
So Amie relied on Karen and Lamie to show her places she didn’t know in the company.
Immediately, Lamie’s ears perked up. "You got the biometrics?"
Amie said nothing.
Karen smiled, grinning from ear to ear. "I knew you could do it. If anyone could, it’s you."
Amie basked in the praise.
After they finished praising her, she continued, "Well, I just need you to show me some of those places right now."
Lamie nodded, pushing the file she was working on away.
"Yes, Miss Vassari."
They moved into the elevator and went to a higher floor, where most of the important documents were kept.
They had to pass several rooms before getting there.
On the way, Amie tested her biometrics against the security system. Immediately she placed her finger on it, the light blinked green and the door opened.
She lifted her head, walking as if she owned the world, while Lamie followed behind with a smile on her face.
Getting into some of the places was much easier because Amie didn’t need to enter a password or ask for permission. With just a finger on the scanner, the doors opened for her.
Surprised, Amie smiled.
Serena had actually kept her part of the promise.
It was now Amie’s turn.
Finally, she got to a door with the tag:
EXECUTIVES ONLY
She smiled, thinking it was going to open like the previous ones, but this time, red lights flashed and a loud beep sounded in the hallway.
Amie stepped back.
No. This couldn’t be.
Before she could blink, two security guards appeared.
"What are you doing here?"
Glaring at them, she said, "What do you mean, what am I doing here? This is my mother’s company. I can be wherever I want."
The guards shared a look, but one of them was bold enough to speak.
"Miss, only executives and administrators have access to this room. You’ll have to move back."
Amie frowned at them, wishing she could fire both of them on the spot, but she knew she didn’t have that kind of power yet.
"What do you mean by that? My biometrics have been linked to the company’s system. I’m sure I should have access to anywhere I want."
"Regarding that, ma’am," the guard said, "yes, your biometrics have been cleared, but you don’t have the required clearance level. There are some doors you need higher clearance to access, and this door is one of them."
Amie curled her hand into a fist.
How could it be a security guard, an ordinary security guard, telling her how the company worked?
Angry, she turned with a huff, leaving Lamie standing behind her, and headed straight for the elevator.
Mother had told Chris to add her to the system.
So how dare Chris still limit the places she could access?
Consumed by anger, Amie went straight to Chris’s office. She didn’t bother exchanging pleasantries with the secretary or asking her to open the door for her.
Amie pushed the door open with force.
"How could you?" she said, her voice shaking with unshed tears.
Chris watched her with a sigh.
She was back with more drama.
"What?" Chris asked instead.
Amie didn’t stop as she continued.
"How could you, Chris? How could you? Do you hate me that much that you have to embarrass me in front of the whole company?"
Confused, Chris blinked. "What did I do?"
Then Amie gave him a narration of what had happened.
Chris stared at her with an intense gaze.
Why was she interested in getting into an executive-only area?
What could she be looking for?
Or maybe she wasn’t acting on her own.
He finally responded, "That’s because you work in the sales department. You are not an executive."
Amie stomped her foot. "Then make me an executive."
Chris shook his head. "I also started in the position you did. I worked my way up to becoming an executive. If you want the same, you have to work, Amie."
Amie stared at him as if she couldn’t believe what she had just heard, then turned around.
But before she could storm off, Chris stopped her.
"And don’t go crying to Mother. Being her daughter doesn’t automatically make you an executive. If you want that position, you’ll have to prove that you deserve it."
In anger, Amie stormed out of the office.
Then what was the essence of all the effort she had been putting into this?
Once she got into the elevator and finally had some privacy, she immediately dialled her father’s number and gave him an update on what had just happened.
Samir was silent for a while.
"Does this mean I’m going to lose everything?" Amie asked.
She didn’t even want to think about that possibility.
Then suddenly, she heard Samir say, "There is a solution."
"Really?"
Amie felt hope flare in her chest.
Samir chuckled.
"Yes. You need to get close to one of those executives."
