Chapter 130: Memories and Observations

Rauf froze.

He moved his hand slowly behind her. It wasn’t until his hand touched her bare back that June realised what she had done.

Instantly, she pulled back. "Don’t misunderstand. I just really like the room."

Rauf nodded, the warmth of her body still lingering on him.

"I didn’t say a word."

The room fell into silence.

It was awkward, and June shifted away from him, trying to do anything to clear the awkwardness.

"Why is there a bed in here?" she asked. "Isn’t it supposed to be a workplace?"

Rauf’s gaze moved to her stomach. "Because you’re pregnant. You need to rest as much as you can."

She nodded in understanding.

"Why is there a sofa?"

Rauf moved to the sofa and brought out a remote June hadn’t noticed. He pressed it, and something appeared from underneath the sofa.

"In case you need to rest your legs when you don’t feel like sleeping but still feel tired."

Slowly, a smile started appearing on June’s lips. "And what is the refrigerator for?"

Rauf moved towards it. "You’re pregnant. You need to eat whenever you feel hungry. I’ll ask Fleur to restock it regularly for you."

June couldn’t hide her smile any longer.

He had really thought everything through before setting it up.

But before she could ask another question, a knock on the door interrupted her.

June turned towards the door as Rauf invited the person in.

Henson came in, holding a small file. He bowed slightly in greeting to June before turning towards Rauf.

"I brought the file you requested, Boss."

June watched them curiously, but she didn’t dare interrupt. Out of excitement, she didn’t even remember if she had eaten that morning.

"Thank you," Rauf responded. "She really loves the room."

That got June’s attention. She raised a brow as if questioning Rauf.

"Yes, he was the one who worked on the room to make it available as soon as possible."

This time, June turned her full attention to Henson. She could see the dark circles under his eyes.

"Thank you," she said.

She didn’t want to underrate his efforts.

"I really love the room." Then she turned back towards Rauf. "I think you’re overworking your worker."

Rauf chuckled. He knew it was just a joke.

After confirming what was in the file, he dismissed Henson.

"What’s that?" June asked.

There was no point in hiding her curiosity.

Rauf placed the file on the desk in the room. "Henceforth, our training will take place here. And this..." He tapped the file with his finger. "Is the material for today’s lesson."

June could hardly believe what was happening.

To her, it felt as if Christmas had come early.

Rauf didn’t only give her a room that perfectly met her needs, but he was also willing to train her on the same day.

Before he could change his mind, she pulled out the chair and settled on it.

"I’m ready for my first class."

Rauf nodded.

He opened the refrigerator, pulled out a bottle of orange juice, and placed it in front of her with a glass.

"In case you get hungry during the class."

June gave him a mock salute, her excitement doubling at his action.

Then suddenly, Rauf wore a serious expression. He picked a picture out of the folder.

"Today, we’re learning observation and memory."

June had no idea what it meant, but she was ready to learn anything that would give her an upper hand in her new life.

Her father hadn’t cared whether they knew how to protect themselves or not. He hadn’t cared if June went missing, but all that had never mattered because she was mostly in the house.

Rauf placed the picture in front of her.

"I’ll give you five minutes to study this picture. I want you to note every little thing in it."

June turned to him. She wanted to ask a question.

But before she could open her mouth, Rauf beat her to it.

"Your time starts now!"

His voice echoed in the room.

Instantly, June picked up the picture, glancing at it.

She had no idea what she was supposed to be looking for in the picture. But she knew there were three friends smiling at the camera.

They seemed happy just looking at the camera.

She looked at Rauf to see if he would give her any clue, but his attention was on the clock.

And suddenly, he said, "Time’s up!"

June still held the picture, trying to figure out if there was some sort of hidden message in it that she hadn’t paid attention to.

Slowly, Rauf collected the picture from her.

"What did you observe in the picture?"

June smiled, mentioning the number of people in the picture and how happy they looked.

Rauf nodded. "Good."

Just as June was about to celebrate, he threw another question at her.

"What colour was the man in the middle wearing?"

June blinked.

She hadn’t bothered paying attention to his clothes.

She stared at Rauf as if she would get the answer from his face, but all he did was stare back at her.

"Yellow," she guessed.

"Wrong."

"Blue."

Rauf shook his head.

"Brown."

Rauf stopped her before she could mention another random colour.

"Orange," he said. "But the colour isn’t the important thing."

June furrowed her brows at him.

Wasn’t he the one who had just asked her for the colour?

"Then what’s the most important thing?" she asked.

"The purpose of this lesson is to get you accustomed to noticing things people might not consider important," Rauf stated. "Those mundane things might help you identify who’s good and who’s bad."

June nodded.

Before long, Rauf showed her more pictures.

She was able to answer some of his questions correctly, but she ended up failing most of them.

But she wasn’t bothered by it at all.

The fact that she was doing something made her smile.

And it was hard for her to believe that it was all thanks to Rauf.
