The Mirror Master
Chapter 258: The Copper Corpse Emerges from the Coffin
At that moment, the tall, winged figure stood poised in mid-air like a god, capturing the attention of everyone in the Pill Room!
With Nangong Bo dead, the spirits of Xu Changfeng, Jiang Qingsong, and the others soared, and they all breathed a sigh of relief.
Just moments ago, the pressure Nangong Bo had exerted on them had been immense.
Xu Changfeng hurriedly cupped his hands toward Lu Bai in thanks and asked, “Thank you for your righteous intervention, sir. Might I ask for your name?”
Although he could see that Lu Bai was young and only an Innate Martial Artist, he had saved them all, after all.
Even if it was a surprise attack, killing Nangong Bo was still nothing short of astonishing!
Nangong Bo’s projected Blood Qi had an eight-foot range. Normally, an Innate Martial Artist would find it very difficult to breach such a defense.
Fortunately, the young man had used a Sound Strike Secret Technique to create a momentary flaw in Nangong Bo’s Blood Qi, allowing for the one-hit kill.
“Lu Bai?”
Jiang Qingsong stared unblinkingly at the figure in mid-air, his face a mask of disbelief as he subconsciously whispered the name.
Back when Duke Chen brought Lu Bai into the Central Army Headquarters, he had seen him once among the crowd.
He later heard that the young man had performed legendary deeds in Longling Canyon, his prowess echoing across the frontier.
However, Jiang Qingsong couldn’t be entirely sure.
He’d heard Lu Bai was only at the Ninth or Tenth Meridians of the Innate Realm, whereas this person had clearly reached Innate Realm Perfection.
Furthermore, the Blood Qi he radiated was terrifying!
“I am Lu Bai.”
Lu Bai nodded, forgoing pleasantries with Xu Changfeng’s group. He got straight to the point. “Something is wrong with this tomb. The Corpse Refining Sect has laid an ambush. We need to retreat from this place immediately!”
He had taken off his Mountain Demon Hat, revealing himself and stating his identity, for the sole purpose of warning these Wu Country generals.
Xu Changfeng, Jiang Qingsong, and the others felt a chill upon hearing his words.
Before, if Lu Bai had run up and said such a thing, none of them would have paid it any mind.
No matter how great his military achievements, Lu Bai was still just an Innate Martial Artist.
But now that he had just saved their lives, his words carried undeniable weight.
“Listen to Lu Bai. Let’s go now!”
Xu Changfeng was decisive. With a shout, he led the group in a charge toward the Pill Room’s exit.
‘So that’s Lu Bai?’
‘He’s not dead. Could it be that Elder Wu failed?’
The two remaining True Master Martial Daos from Great Li Country exchanged a glance, their expressions filled with shock and doubt.
BANG!
Just then, the Jade Bottle in one of the men’s hands suddenly shattered, releasing a great cloud of yellow mist that rapidly spread outwards.
“AH!”
The two True Master Martial Daos from Great Li Country bore the brunt of the attack. They were instantly swallowed by the yellow mist, their flesh rapidly rotting and dissolving as they let out bloodcurdling screams!
HISS!
Many of the True Master Golden Cores who witnessed this felt their blood run cold.
Initially, they had been skeptical of Lu Bai’s warning.
But now, seeing this, they were starting to believe him.
“That’s Corpse-Dissolving Powder! A poison from the Corpse Refining Sect!”
In addition to the two True Master Martial Daos from Great Li, several others who were closest were also engulfed. They didn’t stand a chance. Within a few breaths, the yellow mist dissolved them completely, leaving nothing but a puddle of yellow liquid where they stood.
BOOM!
Elsewhere, a True Master Golden Core, still shaken, worried that the Spiritual Elixir he had just snatched might also be a trap and quickly threw it away.
The Jade Bottles hit the ground and instantly detonated with a massive explosion!
A dozen or so True Master Golden Cores in the vicinity were blown to bits by the blast, killed instantly!
“The Elixirs are trapped!”
The crowd of True Master Golden Cores quickly realized what was happening.
But unfortunately, it was too late.
Some of them were still standing before the Jade Shelves, frozen in shock at the chaos, when a pair of arms covered in black fur emerged from the darkness behind them. Veins bulged on the arms, and their fingernails were long and sharp.
Suddenly, they were hit by a nauseating, rotten stench.
Before they could react, the Combat Corpses in the darkness launched their attack!
CRACK!
A pair of large hands twisted off a True Master Golden Core’s head.
Another True Master Golden Core screamed as a Combat Corpse disemboweled him. He collapsed, already dead.
One by one, they appeared—creatures covered in black fur, with bulging, bloodshot eyes and veins popping on their necks. They roared at the Golden Core Realm experts in the Pill Room, baring sharp fangs!
Having already started to retreat, Xu Changfeng, Jiang Qingsong, and the other True Master Martial Daos heard the commotion behind them. They glanced back and felt a surge of belated terror.
Black Jiangshi!
Back in Bai Family Village, the Corpse Refining Sect Cultivator Lu Bai had encountered had only managed to refine a Green Jiangshi, with combat strength comparable to an Innate Martial Artist.
When the fur of a Green Jiangshi turns black, it becomes a Black Jiangshi. Its Corpse Poison grows more virulent, and its combat strength becomes comparable to a True Master Martial Dao!
The Corpse Refining Sect Cultivators orchestrating this from the shadows had to be at the Golden Core Realm, at the very least.
With a loud RUMBLE!
The doors to the Pill Room slammed shut.
Aside from Lu Bai, Xu Changfeng, and their group, a dozen or so quick-witted True Master Golden Cores, including Lu Mingyuan and his two companions, managed to escape just in time. Every one of them was pale and drenched in sweat.
More than three hundred True Master Golden Cores had charged into the Pill Room just moments ago.
Now, only a little over twenty had made it out alive!
And that was only because Lu Bai had suddenly appeared to warn them.
Otherwise, they all would have died in there!
“If the side tomb is like this, then the main tomb…”
Xu Changfeng was quick to realize the implication.
Jiang Qingsong said, “General Yue and the others are in danger!”
In truth, Lu Bai had thought of this as well.
But even knowing it, there was nothing he could do to help.
The Combat Corpses in this side tomb were already at the level of Black Jiangshi.
The Combat Corpses in the main tomb would likely be at the Copper Corpse level—their bodies like Copper Skin and Iron Bones, impervious to weapons, fire, and water, capable of clashing head-on with the Dharma Fields and Blood Qi Domains of Nascent Soul Realm experts!
Frankly, with his current combat strength, Lu Bai stood a fair chance against a True Master Martial Dao in the Early Stage of Golden Core.
But facing a Golden Core Level Black Jiangshi was another matter entirely; he would be hard-pressed to even land a blow.
His Cultivation Realm was a step below, for one thing. On top of that, his weapon was only Tier Two, another level below what was needed, making it difficult to inflict any serious damage.
But if the Black Jiangshi landed even a single blow—or a mere scratch—the Corpse Poison it carried would be more than he could handle.
RUMBLE!
Just then, the great doors of the main tomb were suddenly blasted open from within!
A stream of figures scrambled out, all of them looking worse for wear.
Yue Qianshan and Xiao Qingyu were among them.
Xiahou Li of Great Li Country and his men, other Nascent Soul True Monarchs, and even some Tier Four Demon Beasts all came fleeing out.
It seemed this group of Nascent Soul True Monarchs had been trapped inside the main tomb but had managed to use some power to blast the doors open from within and escape!
Anyone who could cultivate to the Nascent Soul Realm was one of the greats.
Someone among them had noticed something was amiss almost as soon as they entered the main tomb.
“Let’s go! This is a tomb of the Corpse Refining Sect!”
When Yue Qianshan saw that Xu Changfeng, Jiang Qingsong, and the others were still alive, he breathed a sigh of relief and quickly called out to them.
Xiahou Li rushed out and scanned the area, but when he didn’t see any of the True Master Martial Daos from Great Li Country, he froze for a moment.
‘Where are my men?’
‘Not a single one made it out?’
‘Where’s Nangong Bo?’
BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!
Just then, the great stone monoliths standing around the main tomb exploded one by one, revealing rows of upright bronze coffins.
CRASH!
The coffin lids fell away.
One by one, Combat Corpses with skin that shimmered with a metallic luster stepped out. They were expressionless, lacking the ferocious faces and sharp fangs of the Black Jiangshi, but they radiated an aura that made one’s heart pound in terror!
The Copper Corpses had emerged!
