"Was the lesson Cassian taught you back then still not enough?" Liliana asked in a flat voice.

"Liliana!" Valerie shouted, now being helped to her feet by her friends from other packs.

Liliana returned Valerie’s gaze without fear.

"Tell Adrian and Alaric that I no longer have anything to do with either of you. My name is simply Liliana Draven."

After saying that, Liliana calmly sat back down and opened her textbook. Her attention returned to the page in front of her, as if she couldn’t hear the mocking remarks made by Valerie’s friends.

"Liliana, do you think Cassian will keep defending you forever?"

Valerie walked closer and stopped beside Liliana’s desk.

"Do you know that Cassian has recently grown close to someone from our pack?"

Liliana frowned. She didn’t understand what Valerie meant. As far as she knew, Cassian had never shown any interest in another woman. She had never even heard of a she-wolf daring to approach her brother.

Seeing Liliana remain silent, Valerie smiled in satisfaction. She adjusted the loose strands of hair falling across her face before speaking again.

"Liliana, do you think you’ll be as lucky as I am? Being loved by your own adopted brother, and even becoming the Luna mate of a future Alpha?"

Liliana turned and looked into Valerie’s brown eyes, which were the same color as her own.

"Valerie, you think too much. Besides, I’m not interested in having an illicit relationship with my adopted brother," she replied sarcastically.

"You!"

Valerie’s expression immediately twisted with anger.

"Liliana, are you showing off? Do you think that with your ugly face, you’ll remain the only woman by Cassian’s side?"

Liliana frowned. Valerie’s behavior was completely different from the last time they had met. The composure and pretense she had always displayed were gone. The woman standing before her seemed to have changed completely.

Liliana had just opened her mouth to respond when the classroom door suddenly swung open.

An instructor dressed entirely in white entered, carrying a stack of books.

Liliana recognized him. He was one of the instructors who had helped her when she was still in her previous class.

As soon as the students saw who had arrived, they immediately returned to their seats, including Valerie. The classroom, which had been noisy just moments earlier, fell silent.

No one dared to make a sound. The instructor was known for being extremely strict. He didn’t even give special treatment to the Alpha successors who had made it into the top twenty of the elite class.

"Today, we will be studying Nightfangs," he announced as soon as he stood at the podium.

As usual, he went straight to the point without wasting time on unnecessary pleasantries.

"Open your books to page seventy-eight. After last night’s Nightfang attack, the dean asked me to provide you with additional knowledge about them."

He placed the books he was carrying on the podium before continuing his explanation.

"Nightfangs do share several characteristics with our kind, but their abilities are very different. As you’ve already learned, they are a new species that has appeared in our world. Until now, they have still been considered defective creations."

"But, Instructor," interrupted a man sitting in the front row. "We noticed something different about the Nightfangs that attacked the academy yesterday. They have evolved. At a glance, their appearance even resembles our wolves."

The instructor nodded.

"You’re right. That’s exactly what I want to discuss with you."

He opened the magic book he had brought, then channeled his wolf’s power into it. A moment later, a projection appeared before the class, displaying the body of a Nightfang.

"They have indeed evolved. The Emperor has already deployed his forces and ordered the Alphas to investigate these changes further."

"Instructor, could they become like us?" a student asked. "I mean, could they transform into humans and possess the same magical abilities as we do?"

The instructor smiled faintly.

"It’s possible. However, everything depends on the cells inside their bodies. Whether those cells can regenerate and develop their abilities, or whether they will only undergo physical changes without any other developments."

"Instructor, given their current nature, is it possible that the Nightfangs will destroy the werewolf race if this evolution continues?"

The question came from a girl wearing glasses who was sitting not far from Liliana.

The classroom immediately fell silent. No one dared to answer, but everyone had already formed their own conclusions.

If the Nightfangs truly continued to evolve while their numbers kept increasing, the destruction of the werewolf race was not a possibility they could afford to dismiss.

The instructor smiled faintly again, then used his power to change the projection.

The image of the ordinary Nightfangs they had known all this time was replaced by a much larger creature with several physical differences.

"This is a Nightfang captured by Alpha Pack Ardent and Alpha Pack Valmont last night."

He pointed at the image.

"Take a good look. They have red eyes and tails covered in reddish fur."

Liliana studied the projection intently.

The Nightfang did resemble the creatures they had encountered the previous night. However, one difference immediately caught her attention.

The Nightfangs they had fought did not yet have red fur on their tails, whereas the creature displayed before the class now had it.

This difference made Liliana even more certain that Nightfang evolution did not merely increase their strength. It might also cause different physical changes in each individual.

"You can see it clearly, can’t you?" the instructor continued. "They no longer have only the grayish-white eyes of ordinary Nightfangs. Their eye color has now changed."

"Instructor, what about their abilities? Are they also much stronger than ordinary Nightfangs? Can we still defeat them with our bare hands as long as they don’t gather in large groups?"

"Their abilities have improved significantly."

The instructor’s expression grew more serious.

"In fact, Alpha Pack Ardent and Alpha Pack Valmont returned with fairly serious injuries after successfully bringing one of them back to the academy."

All the students in the room were startled.

They knew very well how powerful Alpha Pack Ardent and Alpha Pack Valmont were. Both were the Emperor’s right-hand forces and among the most experienced fighters.

If two Alphas as powerful as them had returned injured despite working together, there was only one conclusion they could no longer ignore.

The werewolf race was now facing a threat far greater than anything they had ever imagined.
