"Xavier ... your eyes?" Liliana asked, raising her hand to touch the area around his eyes.

"What are you two doing?"

Vincent’s voice came from another direction. He waved at several of his companions, signaling them to leave before walking toward them.

Vincent then pulled Liliana’s arm away from Xavier’s face.

Liliana immediately turned to look at Vincent. "You’re here? What’s the matter?"

Vincent gave her a mocking smile. "If I weren’t here, would you let this weak man flirt with you any longer?"

"Who are you calling weak?" Xavier asked indignantly.

Liliana shook her head and quickly moved them apart to prevent another argument. After that, she looked at Xavier’s eyes again, as if trying to confirm what she had just seen.

Xavier smiled. He met Liliana’s gaze with his phoenix eyes, deliberately teasing her.

"Why? Do you like my eyes? If so, you can stare at them to your heart’s content in the future."

Liliana furrowed her brows again. Had she been mistaken earlier? Xavier’s eye color had changed, but why had the change happened so quickly?

Seeing Liliana still looking at Xavier, Vincent snorted.

"Is he much more handsome than me?"

Liliana flinched at the question. She quickly looked away from Xavier and shook her head.

"You misunderstood. I just thought Xavier looked a little different," she replied.

Vincent said nothing more. He reached into his pocket and handed Liliana a small book.

"This is from my father. He knows that I’m sharing a Luna with the Crown Prince."

Liliana reached out to accept it.

"What is this?"

"You’ll find out when you read it later. Make sure you read it yourself," Vincent added.

After that, Vincent looked at Xavier again, his brows furrowing.

"Why are you still here? Haven’t you heard that the dean wants us to study the Nightfang captured last night?"

Xavier shrugged casually.

"I was waiting for you. Aren’t we in the same class? I couldn’t possibly let you be the only one who arrives late."

The mocking tone in his voice was unmistakable.

Vincent gave Xavier an irritated look before turning his attention back to Liliana.

"We have something to take care of. If anything happens, come straight to my room."

He reached out and gently stroked Liliana’s black hair.

Liliana nodded. "All right. I’ll come."

After the two of them left, Liliana returned to her dorm room. The difficulty of the material taught in each academy class varied. Therefore, if she wanted to understand more about the Nightfangs, she would have to rely on herself and work harder.

"Silver," Liliana called as soon as she entered the room. "Did you notice Xavier’s eyes changing earlier? Or was I just seeing things?"

She placed the books she was carrying on the table in the corner of the room, then waited for Silver’s answer.

Silver shook his head.

"The change happened too quickly. I didn’t have time to see it clearly. However, I could sense a sudden change in the energy coming from Xavier’s body."

Liliana walked over to the food storage cabinet and took out some cold water. She drank it before returning to her study chair.

"I’ll check again later. What we saw and sensed earlier should have been real."

After that, Liliana turned her attention to the small book Vincent had given her.

She turned the pages one by one, reading the writing on each page. However, the longer she read, the deeper the frown on her forehead became.

"What does this mean? Does Vincent’s father really not want me to understand it? He wrote in a script I’ve never even seen or studied before!"

Liliana let out a frustrated breath. Since she couldn’t understand its contents, she put the notebook in her drawer and returned to studying the book about the Nightfangs that she had borrowed from the library.

Every now and then, Liliana blinked before moving on to the next page. The information in the book revealed a clear difference between the Nightfangs she had seen and encountered so far and those described in the records.

Aside from their ability to reproduce rapidly, some Nightfangs could also disguise themselves perfectly and infiltrate werewolf packs.

Liliana scratched her head, even though it didn’t itch.

Weren’t Nightfangs creatures completely different from werewolves? How could they disguise themselves and infiltrate packs without being detected?

She tilted her head, recalling her instructor’s explanation that morning.

Evolution.

Liliana’s mind raced as she tried to find a connection between all the information she had read. However, before she could reach a conclusion, a knock from outside interrupted her thoughts.

"Brother?" Liliana called as soon as she opened the door.

Cassian stood in front of her, holding a lunchbox.

"Eat something. I cooked it myself. You haven’t eaten anything yet, have you?" he asked.

Liliana accepted the lunchbox and nodded.

"Thank you."

Cassian nodded lightly before looking at her again.

"I heard the two future Alphas of Pack Beaumont bothered you this afternoon. Did they do anything to you? Should I teach them a lesson?"

"There’s no need. They’re like monkeys. If I take them seriously, I’m afraid other people will start thinking I’m just as stupid as they are."

Cassian smiled at her answer, the corners of his lips lifting.

"Brother," Liliana called after a moment.

"Hmm?"

"Valerie said you’re getting close to a girl from Pack Beaumont. Is that true?" Liliana asked cautiously. "Can I know who she is? Maybe I can give you some advice about her personality."

"Valerie?" Cassian raised an eyebrow. "Do you think I’d be interested in someone from that pack?"

Liliana shrugged.

"Who knows?"

Cassian fell silent for a moment before finally answering, "You already know her."

Liliana was startled. She immediately looked up and stared at Cassian for a few moments.

"So it’s true? You’re really getting close to a girl from Pack Beaumont? Who is she?"

"Why? Do you care about me?"

"Of course! You’re my brother. How could I not care about you?"

Cassian lowered his head and looked more intently at Liliana.

"If you saw her, you’d know."

"Who? Is she the Beta of Pack Beaumont’s daughter? Or—"

"Vera."

"Vera? Wait ..."

Liliana fell silent, trying to process the name Cassian had just mentioned.

"Father drove Vera and her father out of our pack," Cassian added. "Vera started approaching me again when you were in the empire with the Crown Prince."

Liliana immediately pressed her lips together.

"Brother, you’re not lying to me, are you? What happened after that?" she asked, trying to get more information.

Cassian gave her a disdainful look.

"Do you think I’d fall for a she-wolf that easily?"

"Why wouldn’t you?"

Flick!

Cassian flicked Liliana on the forehead.

"I’m using her to keep an eye on Pack Beaumont. Something felt strange when I last saw Adrian and Alaric at the academy."
