The Most Arbitrary Wizard
Chapter 488: False Heaven (2)
‘She already knew about four of them. How many more were there that she didn’t know about?’
“Stop!” Sean cut her off and changed the subject. “Are you busy later?”
“I’m heading back to my family,” Daeli said.
Sean: “Huh?”
He was stunned for a moment, then said irritably, “So you’re just going to sleep with me and run?”
After all, everything was out in the open, and Daeli had already given him his punishment. He wanted to spend a few more days with her.
But Daeli glanced at him and said, “I can stay, but can you handle it?”
“…” Sean was suddenly at a loss for words.
He knew Daeli was talking about Elvire.
Daeli closed her book and said, “I already told Eli that you and I have some business to attend to and that I’m heading back to the Flame Territory first. As for the rest… you’re on your own.”
With Carl Black gone, Sean could return. She had essentially solved his most difficult problem for him. Sean was deeply touched. Forcing his exhausted body up, he slipped on his shoes, walked over to Daeli, and hugged her from behind. “Wife, you’re the best~” he said sweetly.
Unfortunately, Daeli wasn’t buying it.
She liked it when he held her, so she let him continue.
But there were still things she needed to make clear.
She tilted her head slightly, looked into his eyes, and said, “Sean, just because I’m helping you hide this from Eli doesn’t mean I approve of you two being together. I just don’t want to see her get hurt.”
Like her, Elvire had been remolded several times. In their previous lives, they were always in the “New World,” and Daeli could find her easily. This time, however, someone broke the rules, causing an error that sent Elvire’s soul to the Farm World. This was also the first time in several lifetimes that her proud, high-minded sister had ever fallen for someone.
So when Daeli first found out Elvire had a boyfriend, she was thrilled. ‘The little one’s finally growing up,’ she had thought. Why else would she have let Elvire bring the boy home for her to meet?
‘All that talk about vetting him was just something I said offhandedly. Of course, I hoped my sister’s boyfriend would be as outstanding as possible, but frankly, for me to consider someone truly outstanding… that’s a very, very high bar. The Blazing Angel Family has no need for so-called political marriages or geniuses to maintain its position. So as long as Elvire liked him, his character was upright, and he treated her well, I wouldn’t have interfered.’
‘But I never expected it to be Sean.’
‘Perhaps the Blazing Angel Family really owes him a debt…’
Daeli’s head was truly starting to ache.
‘If Sean were anything else—a dress she liked, a piece of jewelry—she would have gladly given it to her sister. But she didn’t want to give up Sean. On the other hand, she couldn’t bear to disappoint her sister, who had finally fallen for someone after all this time…’
‘Objectively speaking, Sean was worthy of my sister.’
‘But for two sisters to marry the same man? That’s preposterous!’
Daeli didn’t know how to handle this relationship. When she told Sean to break up with Elvire last night, it was only to test if he truly liked her. Now, she had her confirmation: Sean was just plain greedy. It felt wrong to consent, but it also felt wrong to refuse. In the end, Daeli decided to stop thinking about it. She would just take things one step at a time.
‘Besides, it’s not like my opinion is the one that matters here.’
‘Getting my approval is the easy part.’
‘Even if I were to relent and let Sean have his way again, there’s no guarantee Elvire would accept it.’
‘My sister has never liked her brother-in-law. If she finds out that Sean *is* her brother-in-law and has been deceiving her for so long, it’ll be a miracle if she doesn’t try to kill him.’
Getting Elvire to accept that her boyfriend is actually her brother-in-law—that is Sean’s ultimate challenge.
If he messes this up, even if Sean can’t bring himself to end things, Elvire might break up with him. Then, the problem currently giving Daeli such a headache would simply disappear.
But if Sean could handle it and convince Elvire, it wouldn’t be too late for her to decide whether to approve or not.
So…
“Just take good care of her,” Daeli said, looking at Sean. “If I find out you’ve been mistreating her or making her upset… you know the consequences.”
‘In truth, she didn’t really know what to do with him.’
‘But what could she do? She loved him.’
‘Love is a person’s greatest weakness.’
Still, she had to make her position clear.
Sean immediately snapped to attention and saluted, his face stern. “As you command, Miss Daeli.”
“I’ll be going, then.” Daeli reached out and stroked Sean’s face.
Only now did she finally let her longing for him show. For hundreds of years, she had missed Sean terribly. But her sister… she must have missed this man just as much.
‘I’m the older sister,’ she thought. ‘I can’t be too selfish.’
‘Besides, Sean has his own things he needs to do.’
Daeli tilted back her snowy-white neck and gently kissed Sean on the cheek.
At the same time, a swirling Magic Array quietly materialized in the living room.
Just before she left, Daeli remembered something.
“By the way, do you know why you lost your old Magic Power?”
Sean’s heart leaped. “You know why?”
‘Did I tell her before?’
Daeli: “No, I don’t know either.”
Sean: “?”
“But I know how to help you recover your strength,” Daeli said.
Sean froze, his breath catching. “Quick, tell me.”
‘This was urgent!’
‘He desperately needed a breakthrough to assert his authority as the man of the house!’
But Daeli deliberately held back. “So I can tell you, and you can come get your revenge on me?”
“Listen to you! You’re my wife, how could I hold a grudge?” Sean, of course, wouldn’t admit to it. He held up three fingers and vowed, “I swear, once I get my strength back, I will absolutely not cause any trouble for Miss Daeli.”
