The People's God: Sacrificing Trillions to Ascend
Chapter 1076 - Hidden Agendas
A mechanical dragon roar echoed across the battlefield as the fused Machinedrasprite activated its second transformation: the Sloth Machinedrasprite Fortress.
Its feet drilled into the earth, anchoring its massive frame in place. In that form, it couldn’t move at all. In exchange, the Sloth Machinedrasprite Fortress could dedicate all its energy to firepower. Its armor was now more than twice as thick as before, and its defensive power had increased tenfold.
The moment the transformation was complete, the two Dragon Kings finished charging their combined attack and unleashed an earth-fire dragon breath.
The terrifying blast shot toward the Sloth Machinedrasprite Fortress as a brilliant yellow energy beam. It couldn’t dodge and took the hit head-on. Rock and fire exploded against its outer armor, battering it layer after layer. The Sloth Machinedrasprite Fortress endured every strike through the sheer thickness of its armor. It even absorbed a portion of the energy and channeled it into its Infinity Cannon.
The moment the dragon breath subsided, it fired the Infinity Cannon. The blast sent both Dragon Kings tumbling more than 1,000 meters.
All of the Volcano Dragon King’s scales cracked, and blood seeped from beneath them. The Crimson-Eye Earth Dragon King fared better, though its thick stone armor had been completely shattered.
The Sloth Machinedrasprite Fortress hadn’t escaped unscathed, either. Molten rock had left holes and craters across its armor. The power of Sloth was already repairing the damage, however. Every crater rapidly sealed itself, and even the largest holes slowly closed. The sight of such regeneration terrified both Dragon Kings.
Outside the arena, every member of the Ancient Dragon Clan watching the Championship erupted in excitement. Nobody had expected Han Wu to have this up his sleeve. If he’d brought out the Machinedrasprite during the qualifiers, who could have beaten him?
Long Lin watched alongside the crowd and felt a chill run through his entire body. He finally understood how arrogant he had been. He had been riding the coattails of a single Subcosm Dragon King yet he’d dared to bark at someone like Han Wu. He had even tried to make Han Wu play support.
Long Lin slapped himself hard. “What was I thinking? I’m such an idiot!”
His father grabbed him in alarm. “Son, what are you doing? Hitting yourself won’t solve anything. Han Wu may be impressive, but he’s not a member of the Ancient Dragon Clan. If you pull yourself together, you’re still the clan’s greatest young talent.”
His father’s words helped Long Lin steady himself, but one question lingered. After being abandoned by his own core race, could he really hold on to that title?
The happiest person was none other than Long Qi. He had built the Ancient Dragon Clan with his own hands. Year after year, they’d lost more Great Dragon Championships than they’d won. Han Wu’s performance today would be enough to pull the Ancient Dragon Clan back from the brink and seize victory.
The more he watched Han Wu, the more he liked him. If only this boy were a member of the Ancient Dragon Clan.
The Jade Dragon Emperor sat beside Long Qi and caught up with Silver Dragon King Erebard, though part of its attention remained on the Championship. The early rounds had gone as expected. Its contestants held an overwhelming advantage, so victory was only natural.
As the match progressed, however, the Jade Dragon Emperor grew increasingly puzzled. When did the Ancient Dragon Clan produce a freak like this? His core race has so many types! Is this really the Divine Civilization?
Erebard sensed its childhood friend’s confusion and offered an explanation. The standout contestant was its current master, Han Wu. He wasn’t actually a member of the Ancient Dragon Clan. He had come to the clan’s territory only to visit Long Qi. Most importantly, Erebard revealed that Han Wu possessed the Defier title.
The Jade Dragon Emperor’s eyes lit up. The Defier was a treasure of the Great Dragons, yet it had awakened in a human! If the old coots back home caught wind of this, there would be an uproar. Han Wu had to be brought into the Great Dragon race!
If the Great Dragon could accept Long Qi, why not Han Wu? Based on everything Han Wu had shown so far, he could easily become a second Long Qi, or maybe even surpass him one day.
The Jade Dragon Emperor was already daydreaming about the rewards it would receive from the Nine-Faced Dragon God for bringing home such a prize.
Back in the arena, the battle raged on. After multiple failed assaults, the Volcano Dragon King and the Crimson-Eye Earth Dragon King still couldn’t break through the Sloth Machinedrasprite Fortress’ defenses. Worse, they were already heavily wounded.
Han Wu knew that the time had come to strike. If he could eliminate one Dragon King, the other would eventually be ground down. He issued a command to the Sloth Machinedrasprite Fortress, and all cannons targeted the weaker of the two, the Volcano Dragon King.
The Sloth Machinedrasprite Fortress obediently redirected every barrel toward the Volcano Dragon King. Wherever it moved, the cannons tracked it consistently. They had to kill it in a single barrage.
The Volcano Dragon King felt its scales tingle. Do I really look that easy to bully?
Compared with the Crimson-Eye Earth Dragon King’s massive defenses and health, the Volcano Dragon King was the softer target.
“Crimson-Eye, give me a layer of armor! I’ll go all in!” the Volcano Dragon King roared.
If they thought it was easy prey, it would show them a fire-attribute life form’s last shred of dignity.
The Crimson-Eye Earth Dragon King refused. “No need. The Great Dragons will be the ultimate victor of this match.”
As those words landed, a streak of light flashed past the Sloth Machinedrasprite Fortress and tore away one of its secondary cannons. It was the Hawkbeak Swift Dragon King!
At the same time, a massive silhouette appeared above the two Dragon Kings. Feathers that shimmered with holy radiance covered its entire frame. It was the Celestial Lightfeather Dragon King, the Great Dragons’ final contestant.
All the remaining contestants had finally gathered in one place, and the final battle erupted.
