The People's God: Sacrificing Trillions to Ascend
Chapter 1079 - Victory
Every member of the Ancient Dragon Clan watching the Championship sat with their jaws hanging open. The dinosaur bloodline they had always dismissed had just killed a Dragon King after its upgrade.
The Jade Dragon Emperor shot to its feet in alarm. The Celestial Lightfeather Dragon King was the strongest of the five contestants it had brought. Getting killed by a Tyrannosaurus Rex that had only recently been purified into a proper Great Dragon wasn’t just embarrassing; it was downright humiliating.
Long Qi noticed the Jade Dragon Emperor’s silent fury and quickly interjected, “The coordination between those two contestants was flawless. Han Wu’s dragon timed the attack perfectly. Wouldn’t you say, Jade Dragon Emperor?”
Long Qi’s intention was to redirect the Jade Dragon Emperor’s attention toward Han Wu. The boy’s talent could no longer be hidden, and drawing scrutiny toward him would help shield Long Xiang.
It worked. The Jade Dragon Emperor’s focus shifted entirely to Han Wu. Both of his core race units were formidable. The Sloth Machinedrasprite Fortress combined overwhelming offense with impenetrable defense. Thanks to the power of Sloth, it even had impressive regeneration capabilities.
The Dark Dragoness was among the finest dark-attribute dragons it had ever seen. Her mastery of Dark Energy was practically flawless, and her timing rivaled that of a veteran. What intrigued the Jade Dragon Emperor most was the Dark Courage Shield. It wanted to test whether that shield could withstand a Dragon Emperor’s blow.
The more it analyzed Han Wu, the more it was interested in him.
Long Qi leaned over and added, “Those two dragons aren’t even the strongest units of his core race.”
The Jade Dragon Emperor turned in surprise. “What could possibly be stronger than dragons? Are you trying to fool me?”
Erebard stepped forward. “He’s telling the truth. Han Wu’s strongest core race isn’t the Great Dragons.”
The Jade Dragon Emperor might doubt Long Qi, but it would never doubt Erebard.
“Once the Championship ends, I’d like to see Han Wu’s true strongest units for myself,” the Jade Dragon Emperor muttered.
Inside the arena, the Celestial Lightfeather Dragon King’s death left the Volcano and Crimson-Eye Earth Dragon Kings in dire straits. The Sloth Machinedrasprite Fortress bombarded them relentlessly, while the Dark Dragoness waited for openings. Then there was the Tyrannosaurus Rex below, its jaws perpetually open.
The two Dragon Kings were extremely on edge. Without support, neither dared to commit fully to an attack. Their injuries continued to pile up with each exchange.
In the end, the Volcano Dragon King snapped. After tanking one more Infinity Cannon blast, it deliberately self-destructed and took the Sloth Machinedrasprite Fortress with it. The Tyrannosaurus Rex was caught at the edge of the explosion, but its thick hide saved it from death once again. The blast left it roughly medium-rare, but it could still fight.
The Dark Dragoness had avoided the blast entirely and engaged the Crimson-Eye Earth Dragon King in a one-on-one duel. The Dark Courage Shield’s superior defense ultimately carried her to victory.
As the Crimson-Eye Earth Dragon King dissolved into light, the Great Dragon Championship reached its end. The Ancient Dragon Clan had won.
Of the five contestants, Han Wu claimed a seventy percent contribution share, while Long Xiang claimed the remaining thirty percent. The other three scored zero. In other words, Han Wu and Long Xiang had defeated all five Great Dragon contestants by themselves.
When the two emerged from the arena, every member of the Ancient Dragon Clan cheered. Even the two contestants whom the Great Dragon contestants had killed joined in the applause. They hadn’t contributed to the victory, but they had shown the right attitude. Even when hopelessly outmatched, they hadn’t cowered.
Long Lin hid in the crowd, his face burning. He didn’t dare look at Han Wu. Jealousy and admiration churned inside him. Han Wu’s display of power had been fearsome, but the gap between them wasn’t impossibly vast. By Long Lin’s own estimate, it amounted to only one Subcosm unit.
By all rights, he should have been standing up there too. His blind arrogance had cost him everything. He couldn’t deny that he resented Han Wu, but he knew that resentment was hollow. He couldn’t even beat Han Wu inside the arena with all those restrictions. Out here, the gap would only be wider. Long Lin lowered his head and slipped away before Han Wu could notice him.
Han Wu’s attention was elsewhere. His eyes were fixed on the prize table. Those treasures could enhance a unit’s dragon attribute. If the Yinglong King consumed them, its bloodline could advance even further. Even if it didn’t, the resulting power boost would still be substantial.
Long Qi and the Jade Dragon Emperor presided over the award ceremony. Han Wu received seventy percent of the prizes, while Long Xiang took thirty percent. Neither had any complaints.
Afterward, both powerhouses beckoned Han Wu over. The Jade Dragon Emperor immediately sensed the Defier’s aura on him. Han Wu had tried to conceal it, but such concealment meant nothing before a powerful life form like a Dragon Emperor.
“Esteemed Defier! I’ve finally seen one in the flesh!” The Jade Dragon Emperor spread its arms and pulled Han Wu into a bear hug. The force nearly squeezed the life out of him.
After escaping its embrace, Han Wu noticed Erebard standing beside the Jade Dragon Emperor.
Erebard quickly explained, “Little Green is my closest childhood friend.”
Han Wu marveled at the coincidence. Fate truly works in mysterious ways. To think that two childhood companions would reunite under such circumstances. Erebard’s luck is something else.
The Jade Dragon Emperor hugged him again. “Esteemed Defier, thank you again for bringing Silver back to life.”
Han Wu’s bones creaked under the pressure. Even with his normal Mesocosm physique, he couldn’t withstand a Macrocosm Dragon Emperor’s strength.
Thankfully, the Jade Dragon Emperor noticed his struggle and released him before it caused any real damage.
“Esteemed Defier, forgive my clumsiness,” it apologized.
Long Qi’s eyebrows shot up. In all the years he had dealt with the Jade Dragon Emperor, he had never once heard it apologize.
As for Han Wu, what else could he do when a Macrocosm powerhouse like the Jade Dragon Emperor apologized to him? It was obvious that he had to forgive it!
