Chapter 169: Chapter 168: Getting Publicly Embarrassed Online

Selena Forrest also started to slack off after this ordeal, declaring that she would move out as soon as she got back. Anyway, she had already asked someone to look for an apartment for her. After sending her messages, the three of them went back to playing their game.

Selena: 2.

Sarah: 5.

Rian: 6.

Selena was the victim once again, her entire face scrunched up like a prune. Beside her, Sarah laughed at her for finally getting her comeuppance.

Rian Sinclair slowly announced, "Go to that Moments post you just published. Find the fifth person who commented and reply: ’You? Worthy? Take a good look in the mirror and see what kind of creep you are.’"

Rian knew Selena had a massive social circle. She had nearly a thousand WeChat contacts alone, and she was in touch with almost all of them. Her post would definitely have plenty of comments by now.

Selena rolled her eyes at Rian, though her hands didn’t stop moving. "You really don’t hold back, do you? Ria, you’re absolutely ruthless at this!"

Then, she fell completely silent when she checked the username of the fifth commenter. Gulping, she fake-cried, "BOOHOO, sis, can we please pick someone else?"

Upon hearing this, General Sarcasm—also known as Sarah Forrest—came online to mock her. Unwilling to admit defeat, Selena quickly fired off the message, muted her phone, and tossed it aside.

Noticing Selena’s expression, Rian and Sarah felt like gossip-starved ferrets digging fruitlessly for a scoop. But Selena absolutely refused to spill the beans, and there was nothing they could do.

The game had to go on.

In the next round, the loser changed. It was Sarah’s turn to roll the lowest number, while Rian retained her crown as the winner. "Sarah, let’s keep it simple. Send that exact same message I just gave Selena to that upperclassman of yours," Rian instructed.

Sarah froze in horror. Clutching her chest as if in physical pain, she cried out, "No way, Rian! How could you do this to me? Doesn’t your conscience hurt?!"

Rian silently shook her head. Knowing resistance was futile, Sarah simply closed her eyes and hit send. Looking at his previous messages to her, she knew she was completely doomed.

Despite her breakdown, the game continued. This time, Selena was the unlucky victim.

Selena sounded entirely unbothered now. "Hurry up and tell me, don’t dawdle. There’s no way lightning strikes twice anyway."

Sarah let out a wicked chuckle. "Is that so? Then call that person you hate the most—the one you were just leaving angry voice notes for—and apologize to them."

Hearing the penalty, Selena was utterly dumbfounded. "Holy crap! You’re an absolute monster!"

Sarah simply threw her hands up. Games were meant to be fun and hilarious, even if that hilarity was built on someone else’s suffering. Besides, what did it matter? After all, she wasn’t the one suffering.

Rian silently gave her a thumbs-up. When it came to playing dirty, Sarah was in a league of her own!

Thus, a miserable Selena was forced to make the call. The moment it connected, a barrage of curses erupted from the other end. Selena muttered a super quiet "I’m sorry," immediately hung up, turned the volume down, and tossed her phone aside.

College students had to be brave! They couldn’t be afraid of a little hardship!

The game moved forward. When the dice finally came to a halt, Rian stared at her screen in sheer disbelief.

Selena: 6.

Sarah: 6.

Rian: 1.

"How does this even work? Should we reroll?" she asked.

A chorus of immediate rejections came through the call. "No, no, no! We’ll just put our heads together and come up with something special for you."

Rian felt a sudden sense of impending doom as the other two began to whisper and scheme excitedly. It wasn’t long before she heard their villainous giggles, giving her a pretty good idea of the tragic fate that awaited her.

But she wasn’t a sore loser. "Just give it to me straight," she said bluntly. "Do your worst."

Selena wore a devious grin. "Oh my, how could you say that about us, Ria? Even though your dare earlier got under my skin a little bit, I still love you, after all."

Sarah chimed in from the side, "Exactly! How could you think so poorly of us, Ria? Even though your dare was a bit ruthless, you’re still the apple of my eye. Of course we’re going to be gentle with you."

Listening to their sweet talk, Rian was absolutely certain they were brewing something sinister. Then, Selena’s voice rang out again. "Ria, we won’t force you to do anything too crazy. Just post a video on TikTok with the caption, ’I’m feeling lonely.’"

Rian’s face was completely covered in question marks. This was social suicide on a public platform! Though she wanted to cry, she could only silently pull out her phone and select the single video she had in her camera roll. It was the same clip she had sent to Jason Rivers earlier, showing off the massive collection of luxury cars in her family’s underground garage. She added the caption and hit publish.

Rian didn’t even want to stick around to see what would happen next. She knew her direct messages were about to explode.

The girls continued playing for another seven or eight rounds before calling it quits. During that time, they all lost a few times, but none of the penalties involved humiliating themselves on the internet again. Selena and Sarah simply felt that any more public humiliation would genuinely ruin Rian’s image, so they stopped suggesting those kinds of dares.

After the game ended, the three of them casually chatted about their daily lives.

Remembering something, Selena asked, "By the way, Ria, what university did that kid Ash Sinclair get into?"

Hearing this, Rian replied, "He got into the Computer Science program at Veridian Institute of Technology in Kyoro."

"That boy Ash has some serious grades! The Computer Science department at Veridian Institute of Technology is famously prestigious. He’s got a bright future!" Sarah hadn’t expected Ash to quietly pull off something so impressive.

Selena nodded earnestly. "How is Ash doing with his studies, anyway? He still needs to put in a lot of effort in university. If he slacks off, he’ll just be coasting for a diploma."

As Sarah agreed, Rian followed up with, "I don’t know."

It was the honest truth. Selena looked a bit puzzled. "You don’t know? Don’t tell me that kid is actually slacking off in college?"

"No."

Sarah was also a little confused. "Then what is he doing?"

"He took a leave of absence to join an esports youth academy."

The two girls on the other end fell dead silent. A moment later, Selena let out a piercing shriek. "What? What?! He took a leave of absence?!"

Sarah was equally incredulous, her tone full of deep frustration at his wasted potential. "Does that kid not realize the sheer value of a degree from Veridian Institute of Technology? He just drops out and runs off to play video games?!"

When reading web novels, she could accept a protagonist skipping a top university to play esports. But when it came to someone she actually knew in real life, she seriously wanted to punch his head open just to see how his brain was wired. Who in their right mind would throw away a top-tier college admission to play games?

Selena was utterly dumbfounded, too. She could understand looking for an alternative path if someone had bad grades, but for someone with excellent academic scores to run off and play video games? She could only assume the guy had completely lost his mind. Still, she asked her best friend, "Ria, what’s your take on this?"

Sarah didn’t say anything more either, waiting to hear what her best friend thought. After all, taking a massive step back, Ash was Rian’s younger brother. They had absolutely no say in his life; ultimately, it all depended on Rian’s stance.

Hearing her two best friends, Rian smiled faintly. "It’s his dream. Let him pursue it."

"But Ash has such good grades, and the gaming circle is..." Selena didn’t finish her sentence, her words trailing off into a long, heavy sigh.

Sarah remained silent as well. Since Rian had made up her mind, there was no point in them saying anything more.

Knowing exactly what her two friends meant, Rian said softly, "I can see Ash’s passion for the game."
