Chapter 168: Chapter 167: Love and War Between Besties

Though puzzled, Mr. Forrest was intensely curious about what his daughter had to say. His mind raced. "Are you trying to tell me you have a boyfriend? Listen to me, sweetheart. Dating is fine, but you need to keep your eyes open and judge character carefully. Don’t let yourself get fooled.

"And don’t do anything inappropriate. Any guy who keeps saying he’ll marry you is just brainwashing you and trying to manipulate you. Don’t be silly enough to buy into that nonsense.

"Also, when you’re in a relationship, don’t just spend the guy’s money. If you’re short on cash, tell your dad. Even though I’m not the one holding the purse strings at home, I can still scrape together a little extra for you. Don’t do anything stupid, hear me?"

Sarah listened to her father’s rambling advice, which was getting more and more ridiculous. He was already talking about marriage and kids. She hurriedly cut him off. "Dad, it’s nothing like that! It’s about the last time you came to visit me at my place, remember?

"You had a bit of low blood sugar, right? So I went out to buy you some candy. Well, around that same time, my stomach was feeling a bit... um... blocked up, so I also bought some liquid laxatives.

"I wanted to warn you then, but you just grabbed it and drank it right down. Dad, I swear, I really didn’t do it on purpose!"

A brief silence fell over the other end of the line. Rian Sinclair and Selena were already laughing so hard they could barely breathe. Then, a sudden burst of hysterical laughter erupted from the phone.

"HAHAHAHAHAHAHA! You’re amazing, sweetie! You actually made your dad eat a laxative!"

The voice belonged to Mrs. Forrest. Then came Mr. Forrest’s aggrieved whining. "Honey, how could you say that? And you, Sarah! Daughters are supposed to be sweet and caring! Instead, you’re out here sabotaging me at every turn!"

His voice grew louder and louder. Sarah silently turned down her phone’s volume.

Beside him, Mrs. Forrest continued to mock her husband, even threatening to tell all her girlfriends about it.

That sparked a bickering match between Sarah’s parents.

"Honey, you can’t do this to me! If you tell them, I’ll never be able to show my face in public again!"

"I don’t care! I’m doing it because it’s hilarious."

"Well, honey, when I got back that day, I’m pretty sure we french-kissed. So technically speaking... you ate the laxative too."

Mr. Forrest’s words instantly plunged both ends of the call into a dead silence. A second later, Mrs. Forrest shrieked in absolute fury. "Sarah Forrest! Why on earth did you let your father eat a laxative?! Now this shameless bastard came back and kissed me with that mouth!"

"I’m going to BEEP— BEEP— BEEP—"

Sensing the impending disaster, Sarah immediately hung up. If she let her mother keep cursing, none of them would be getting any sleep tonight.

On her end, Selena was laughing so hard she could barely function. Rian chuckled for a good while before finally composing herself. Sarah glared viciously at Selena and ground her teeth. "Next round!"

The dice rolled once again.

Selena: 1.

Sarah: 3.

Rian: 4.

Seeing the results, Sarah’s triumphant voice blared through the microphone. "HAHAHAHAHA! Oh, look how the tables have turned!"

Given how loud Sarah was laughing, one might have thought she’d rolled the highest number. Selena’s highly punchable voice chimed in. "What are you gloating about? You didn’t even win."

"Ria, think of something brutal! Avenge your sister!" Sarah urged.

Rian just shook her head. For the sake of her own future survival in this game, it was best not to go too far. She smiled. "Let’s keep it simple. Post a status on social media saying: I want to fall in love. Someone send me a man. And you aren’t allowed to block anyone from seeing it."

Selena scoffed at Ria’s lenient dare. "That’s it? That’s way too easy. No blocking? Fine, no problem. Give me a few seconds."

A flurry of rapid tapping followed. Rian glanced at her feed, saw the newly updated post, and smiled. "Next round."

Selena: 3.

Sarah: 2.

Rian: 4.

Rian won again. Over the phone, Selena immediately began egging her on. "Ria, destroy her!"

Sarah desperately wished she could reach through the screen and physically mute her mic. Since she couldn’t, she resorted to shouting back. Selena kept pitching terrible, evil dares, while Sarah furiously cursed her out in a steady stream of bleep-worthy profanities. The two bickered back and forth endlessly.

Rian laughed. "Come on, we’re best friends. I’m not taking sides. Sarah, just pick a senior guy you know fairly well and send him a text saying: Wanna hook up? Then, no matter what he replies, you can’t text back."

The moment Rian finished, Selena started cracking up again. A sexually suggestive dare like that was certainly going to stir up some drama.

Sarah didn’t argue. Honestly, after the disaster with her parents earlier, she was practically immune to embarrassment. She pulled out her phone and started scrolling through her contacts.

She scrolled for quite a while before her finger hovered over a contact saved as ’Grant.’ She fell silent. After all that searching, she realized he was the only senior guy she had added; the rest were all upperclasswomen.

Since they were screen-sharing for the dares, Rian and Selena watched the entire process. They saw her open his chat log, which consisted of only two messages.

[Hello.]

[Hello.]

And that was it?

Selena couldn’t help but ask, "That’s it? That’s the whole chat history? And here I thought you were hiding some scandalous secret."

She had been fully expecting some juicy gossip to tease her about, but this was a total letdown. It was the epitome of building up hype for absolutely nothing.

Sarah quickly fired off the dare text and tossed her phone aside. The game continued.

Selena: 1.

Sarah: 6.

Rian: 2.

Seeing the numbers, an evil snicker slipped from Sarah’s lips. "Oh, man. Why must besties torture each other? Karma really is a boomerang, isn’t it?"

Selena scoffed. "Just spit it out. And don’t go easy on me, or I’ll lose all respect for you."

Sarah grinned. "Send a voice memo to the person you hate the most and completely curse them out. Guy or girl, doesn’t matter. But it has to be the person you despise the most."

The smile instantly froze on Selena’s face. "Holy shit!" she gasped in sheer shock. "We’re going nuclear already?!"

Sarah immediately laid on the sarcasm. "Oh, no way. Don’t tell me you’re chickening out~"

Selena was never one to back down from a challenge. She immediately snatched up her phone, scrolled to a specific contact, and held down the voice record button. She fired off like a machine gun. "Let me tell you something, I absolutely despise you. You walk around acting so fake every single day, and for what?! I don’t even know who you’re trying to fool... *(One hundred words of profanity omitted).*"

She got more and more fired up as she went on, completely losing herself in the rant until the app’s sixty-second recording limit forcefully cut her off.

"Well, good thing I’m still staying at home right now," Selena said, catching her breath. "Because I definitely can’t go back to that room anymore. I guess I better start looking for a new place to live."

Since the screen was still being shared, Rian and Sarah clearly saw who the unfortunate recipient was. It was her roommate. Both of them were well aware of the bad blood between Selena and her dorm mate. And for good reason.

Selena’s roommate was a total nightmare who caused drama over absolutely nothing. She would loudly video-call her boyfriend without a shred of decency, blatantly use other people’s belongings without asking, and constantly pull all sorts of baffling, obnoxious stunts.

"Relax, relax," Sarah consoled her over the phone. "Honestly, if your roommate sucks, just switch dorms. Or better yet, move off-campus entirely. It’s not a big deal, right?"

"If you need help looking for an apartment, just say the word." Seeing that all bridges had officially been burned, Rian immediately stepped up to offer her friend a backup plan.
