Chapter 90: Chapter 90: Hiring The Mercenary Corps and a Manor Butler

Rian Sinclair looked at the bodyguards around her, feeling that their hands were entirely too empty.

After a quick browse through her system’s virtual store, she pushed out a large crate she had just purchased. She called out to her busy subordinates, "Everyone, come grab some little toys."

The surrounding men weren’t surprised by the crate’s sudden appearance. As creations of interstellar technology themselves, they were well aware of their lady’s true identity.

Aiden Sinclair, who was the closest, opened the large crate. Inside lay an impressive array of firearms and ammunition.

Everyone quickly armed themselves, Quentin Sinclair included. Meanwhile, Rian toyed with a custom-made handgun she had spent a fortune on in the system’s store.

The items in the system’s store were all top-tier, which naturally meant they weren’t cheap. Therefore, dealing with actual arms dealers in the future would still be highly necessary.

Rian looked toward the villa. The previously empty interior was gradually filling up as large trucks continuously drove in and out, dropping off supplies.

Satisfied, Rian got up and returned to her room to wash up. She changed into a wine-red slip dress, paired with off-white high heels encrusted with crushed diamonds. Her hair was swept up into a lazy bun, with a few playful strands framing her face.

The Mercenary Corps arrived quickly. Rian looked at the twelve people sitting in front of her.

There were eight foreign men and four striking, tough-looking women. Observing their formation, she deduced that the bearded man was their leader.

All twelve were foreigners. The bearded man saw that their employer was Veridian, but none of them had ever studied the Veridian language. "We took your job on the black net."

Quentin and the others didn’t reply, simply standing quietly by their lady’s side.

Rian didn’t answer immediately. Instead, she took her time sizing up the group. The men were all muscularly built, varying in height, but every single one of them had a trace of murderous intent in their eyes.

The four women were dressed cleanly and practically, all sporting short hair. The telltale bulges at the small of their backs indicated they were carrying their own weapons.

One woman, wearing a brown camouflage tank top, was exceptionally beautiful, though her exposed skin was covered in scars.

Rian looked at her with interest. Their eyes met in the air, both reflecting mutual astonishment. Rian curled her lips into a smile, gazing directly at her. "Smoking hot."

Women always loved to be praised, especially by a top-tier beauty. The woman smiled and replied, "You’re so charming and very rich."

Looking at Rian’s breathtaking face, the woman added, "You’re breathtaking."

This woman was exactly her type. She wore desert tactical camouflage, boasting a tall figure and handsome features. With blonde hair and blue eyes, her skin had tanned into a healthy wheat color from years of sun exposure on the battlefield.

Beautiful as she was, her ability to survive the artillery fire of the battlefield meant she was equally lethal. It was an unchanging truth of nature—the more beautiful the creature, the deadlier the poison.

Overall, Rian’s first impression of them was quite good. She voiced her thoughts, "I can hire you and give you a good price, but I need to know who your enemies are."

The bearded man looked at the gorgeous woman sitting on the sofa. Her fluent Corinium accent made him wonder if she was a Veridian who had lived in Meridia for a long time.

"We just couldn’t stand those drug-dealing bastards in The Golden Triangle, so we took out a few of them. Miss, if you have reservations about that, you don’t have to hire us."

The bearded man was a little nervous saying this, but if they hid it and she found out later, it would be even more impossible for her to hire them. He figured it was better to just tell the truth.

As his words fell, the entire room descended into silence. The members of The Mercenary Corps tensed up.

They had been restricted from taking jobs, and the mission hall refused to dispatch assignments to them. They were completely out of options. Private employers never sought them out either, preferring to avoid the danger and hire new mercenary squads instead.

Because of this, the twelve of them had no choice but to stare at the job boards in the mission hall every day. Not only did they need to find a job that paid enough to feed all twelve of them, but they also had to carefully evaluate the tasks posted by employers.

Due to the mission hall’s restrictions on them, they could no longer view high-level missions. They were left with the small fry, and even then, they weren’t guaranteed to snatch those jobs away from the other corps mingling in the scene.

In the past, jobs used to come to them; they never had to worry about finding work. Now, they were the ones begging for missions, forced to compete against weaker squads just to scrape by. As for disbanding and joining other squads, they wouldn’t be able to trust new teammates to watch their backs on such short notice.

Listening to the man’s words, Rian curled her lips slightly. "Couldn’t stand," "took out," "don’t have to hire." Those few words revealed that they possessed decent strength and moral character, while also applying a bit of pressure on the employer.

Rian propped her face up with one hand, looking at the bearded man. He had a good head on his shoulders. That last sentence was clearly a way to gauge her authority and resources.

Fortunately for them, Rian actually had plans to make a move against that region. Otherwise, she wouldn’t have bothered hiring this particular corps. After all, to any other employer, this corps was a hot potato. Taking them on meant dealing with the pressure brought by their enemies.

"Name your price."

Rian’s voice rang out in the room. The bearded man and his team had already braced themselves for rejection, so they looked up at her in shock upon hearing this.

"Boss, your job is very simple, but according to the minimum mercenary hiring rate, it’s a thousand US Dollars a month."

The bearded man felt a bit embarrassed bringing up the price. After all, the job was essentially just being a glorified security guard. Still, they had lives to live, so they had to prioritize their own survival.

Hearing this, Rian found it well within her acceptable range. "Deal. One thousand US Dollars per person, per month. But I only have one requirement: keep my villa secure."

The bearded man and his team stood up straight. "Don’t worry, Boss. Getting things done when the money’s right is what we do best."

Quentin settled the twelve mercenaries in. Since they were responsible for perimeter security, he did not arrange accommodations for them inside the villa.

It was still early after wrapping up these matters, considering how early they had landed. Quentin barely lifted his head from his computer.

Rian lay on the sofa, happily playing a match-3 game on her phone. Quentin had draped a blanket over her legs once again.

Other personnel began to appear within the estate, all arranged by Quentin, bringing a bit more life and activity to the villa.

"Miss, the estate’s butler has been arranged."

Hearing this, Rian didn’t even look up from her game. "Send him over."

By the time she finally pulled herself away from the game interface, Rian looked up to see a handsome young man with blonde hair and blue eyes standing next to Quentin.

"Miss, this is the butler we hired."

Hearing the familiar system broadcast, Rian decided not to dwell on why the man was so young.

Upon seeing his employer, the man stepped forward and performed a flawless royal bow. "Hello, Master. I am Venus."
