Chapter 120: Chapter 120: The Feeling of Being Forcefully Pampered
Hearing what Xu Yingying said, Han Xiaorui and Ye Feng looked at each other and smiled.
They could both sense the shift in their aunt Xu Yingying’s attitude.
Ye Feng gave Han Xiaorui a thumbs-up. "Xiao Rui, you’re amazing."
Han Xiaorui’s eyes crinkled in a smile. "Mhm, yes, I am amazing. And you, Ye Feng, were great too."
"I was a little nervous when you spoke to my aunt like that, but I never expected it to be so effective," Ye Feng remarked, his forehead slick with sweat from the tension.
Han Xiaorui poured Ye Feng another bowl of congee. "Your grandparents and aunt are so wealthy, so high and mighty. They might have a compassionate side, but they’d never show it to someone they look down on."
"Only the strong, only people who are impressive enough, can earn their respect and approval. That’s why I won’t act weak, and I don’t want to."
Ye Feng squeezed Han Xiaorui’s hand. "I know I like you. Nothing anyone else says will change that."
Han Xiaorui chuckled. "Of course, I know that. But they’re your family. Your mother passed away young, so it’s natural that you’d project those feelings onto your grandparents and aunt."
"If I can get them to accept me, you can be with me and still maintain a good relationship with your relatives. Wouldn’t that be the best of both worlds?"
Hearing this, Ye Feng felt his nose tingle, and his eyes grew moist.
’Beneath Han Xiaorui’s tough exterior is such a soft heart.’
’She adores children and cares so much for her sister.’
’Being part of Han Xiaorui’s family must be wonderful.’
"I’ll listen to you," Ye Feng said with a smile. After eating two more bowls of congee for lunch, he felt much more energetic.
Han Xiaorui sat by his bedside. "Do you need to use the restroom?"
Hearing this, Ye Feng’s face flushed slightly. "Could you get a male orderly to help?"
Han Xiaorui smiled. "Sure, just a moment."
’This wasn’t the time for jokes.’
With the orderly’s help, Ye Feng was much more at ease, his blush fading.
"Sleep if you’re tired," Han Xiaorui said softly. "I’ll stay here with you. Xiao Gu went home to change his clothes; he’ll be back in a bit."
Ye Feng didn’t want to sleep, but he was genuinely getting drowsy.
His body needed a lot of sleep to recuperate properly.
However, he kept his hand clasped around Han Xiaorui’s. He slowly closed his eyes and drifted into a deep sleep.
Han Xiaorui watched him, a faint smile playing on her lips as she gazed at his strong brows and sharply defined face.
Taking a book on marine fisheries from her bag, Han Xiaorui began to read it carefully.
’I’ll be making my living on the sea from now on, so of course I need to learn more about the ocean and different types of fish.’
’Back in the apocalypse, I awakened my Water Ability, which allowed me to get food from the water, but I never learned much about the ocean.’
’Now I want to become the greatest Queen of the Seas, to get rich by catching seafood from the ocean, so of course I have to study more.’
She read until four-thirty in the afternoon. When Ye Feng woke up, he turned his head to see Han Xiaorui by his bedside, completely absorbed in a book. "What are you reading?"
Han Xiaorui smiled, holding up the book about marine fish. "I bought a big boat, so I’ll be able to fish in more distant waters. I have to study more so I don’t miss out on a good catch because I don’t recognize it. How else can I be a captain, the Queen of the Seas?"
Ye Feng chuckled, his eyes sparkling as if filled with starlight. "You look so beautiful when you’re focused."
"Oh, really?" Han Xiaorui grinned. "I think so too. Xiao Gu is here. I’ll let him take care of you while I go get your congee. Tonight, it’s green vegetable and shredded chicken congee."
Ye Feng’s heart ached for her. "You’ve already run back and forth twice today. You don’t need to come again. I’ll be fine with something simple for dinner."
Han Xiaorui shook her head, her expression turning serious as she frowned slightly. "My boyfriend is injured. How can his meals be ’something simple’? This is no trouble at all. You just wait for me to bring your food!"
’So assertive and domineering!’
Ye Feng was suddenly struck by the feeling of being powerfully doted on.
He hadn’t felt anything like it from anyone except for his mother, who had passed away so young.
"Alright!" Ye Feng nodded. "Be safe, then."
"I know!" Han Xiaorui chuckled, gathered her things, and left in a flurry, coming and going like the wind.
Seeing Han Xiaorui leave, Xiao Gu looked over with envy. "Director Ye, your girlfriend is not only beautiful, but she truly has you in her heart. That’s amazing!"
"Yes, it is amazing," Ye Feng chuckled, a feeling of pure bliss washing over him.
True to her word, Han Xiaorui returned, carrying a thermos of thick green vegetable and shredded chicken congee made by her sister.
She only left the hospital after Ye Feng had finished eating.
That evening, Xu Yingying returned to the Xu Mansion, a garden villa where the Xu family lived. It had once been the Xu family’s old ancestral home.
It had since been returned to them, and the family had moved back in after renovating it.
Her parents were in the living room, their faces dark and their moods clearly foul.
Xu Yingying asked curiously, "What’s wrong?"
Mr. Xu’s face was dark, and he said nothing.
Old Madam Xu handed her a file. "Take a look at this."
Xu Yingying took it and quickly scanned the contents. "Oh."
So it was the background check on Han Xiaorui.
"Yingying, you’re close to Xiao Feng, you have to talk some sense into him. Marriage is a major life decision; how can he treat it like a game?" Old Madam Xu said, sounding anxious and hoping her youngest daughter would help. "Huh? You read all that, and you’re not getting angry?"
Mr. Xu also looked surprised. With his daughter’s fiery temper, she shouldn’t be this calm after seeing the report.
Xu Yingying took a sip of the coffee a housekeeper had brought over. "I saw Han Xiaorui again today. I think Xiao Feng likes her, and maybe... it’s genuine."
Mr. Xu and Old Madam Xu exchanged a look. "What makes you say that?"
Xu Yingying recounted her conversation with Han Xiaorui from earlier that day. "...Dad, Mom, do you think Xiao Feng is the kind of person who’s easily fooled?"
The old couple adored their grandson, and they knew him well. They knew Ye Feng was level-headed, calm, and stubborn, which was why they hadn’t gone to confront him directly today, even though they disapproved.
"Being a fisherwoman is one thing. But Han Xiaorui has been married, has had a child, and is divorced," Old Madam Xu sighed. "Ye Feng has such good prospects—a great career, handsome looks, and money. Why can’t he find a better girl?"
Xu Yingying shrugged. "Xiao Feng is twenty-seven this year; he’s not getting any younger. He’s had plenty of outstanding female colleagues, but nothing ever developed. Clearly, Xiao Feng is picky. Now that he likes Han Xiaorui for who she is, he absolutely won’t let these external drawbacks affect his decision."
"Han Xiaorui is taking care of Xiao Feng now, bringing him homemade congee that he really likes. In any case, you can give him your advice, but even if you don’t accept her, don’t oppose them."
"After all, Han Xiaorui is the one who will spend a lifetime with Ye Feng, not us. If they still end up getting married after getting to know each other thoroughly, then it just means they have real feelings for each other and are fated to be together."
In the end, the old couple let out a sigh. "We couldn’t control your sister back then, and now we can’t control Xiao Feng. Forget it. We’re old. Let’s just leave it to fate."
Xu Yingying smiled. "After reading that file, I actually find myself admiring Han Xiaorui. If it were me, or any other woman, I doubt I could live with such strength and freedom!"
