Chapter 306: Chapter 306: Ye Feng Was Moved to Tears

Ye Feng smiled, seeing the large ship drawing closer on the sea.

Han Xiaorui had said they would get their marriage license this afternoon. True to her word, she was returning right on time.

Liang Xiaoyu, holding a pair of binoculars, looked toward the shore and spotted Ye Feng holding a bouquet of flowers. "Xiao Rui, come and look, quickly!"

The binoculars were thrust into Han Xiaorui’s hands. She looked in the direction Liang Xiaoyu was pointing. "Oh my, why is Ye Feng on the pier? The sea breeze is so cold! Doesn’t he know to find a place to get out of the wind?"

Liang Xiaoyu chided, "He wants to be the first to see you! Don’t complain when you’re the lucky one. Hurry up, go pack your things. Once we dock, you can go straight home with Ye Feng."

Han Xiaorui nodded. "Thanks, Sister-in-law Xiao Yu. I do need to head back first. After I wash up and eat, Ye Feng and I are going to the Civil Affairs Bureau this afternoon to get our marriage license."

"Getting your license?" Chen Yishui was stunned. "You’re getting married tomorrow and you still haven’t gotten it?"

"Getting it today isn’t too late!" Han Xiaorui said with a smile. The truth was, they could have gotten it much earlier, but Ye Feng’s vetting process was a bit complicated.

It was then that Han Xiaorui learned that even though Ye Feng had supposedly left his confidential unit, that was just the official story. Behind the scenes, he still had arrangements with the organization.

Because of this, the approval process for his marriage was also extremely strict.

Han Xiaorui’s own background was also looked into, but fortunately, none of it was a critical issue.

That’s how their marriage application was finally approved. However, it was very late by the time the approval came through, and she had to go out to sea the next day. That’s why they had to wait until today to get their marriage license.

When they reached the shore, all the crewmen came over to congratulate her. "Boss, congratulations."

"Thank you, thank you," Han Xiaorui said with a smile. "Come to my wedding tomorrow. No gifts, please—just bring yourselves. You can bring your families, too."

These crewmen, and others on good terms with the people of Jinshan Bay, were the closest thing she had to a family of her own.

The moment the ship docked, Han Xiaorui leaped onto the pier and ran toward Ye Feng.

Ye Feng waved goodbye to the others, then took Han Xiaorui’s luggage in one hand and her hand in the other. "Come on, let’s go home."

"Okay!" Han Xiaorui beamed, not caring in the slightest that she still smelled of fish.

She was a daughter of the sea. This was her scent.

Back home, Han Xiaorui immediately hopped in the shower. The expensive water heater she’d bought really came in handy.

After her shower, she smelled wonderful.

As Han Xiaorui was applying cream to her face, Ye Feng picked up a hairdryer and began to dry her hair for her. "It’s cold out. You should dry your hair right after a shower before you do your face, so you don’t catch a cold."

Han Xiaorui smiled. "I’m perfectly healthy. I won’t catch a cold."

And it was true. She never got sick.

The great sea was her "nourishment pod."

"People get sick the moment they get too confident," Ye Feng said with a chuckle. "I was like that once, and I ended up catching a cold the very next day."

Feeling Han Xiaorui’s soft, long hair in his hands, Ye Feng’s mind began to race.

’Now that we have our marriage license, does that mean I can stay the night?’

’Sure, the wedding night is tomorrow, but we’ll be running around from dawn till dusk. It’s going to be exhausting!’

But he didn’t dare say it out loud. He was too shy.

After lunch, Han Xiaorui changed into a long, yellow down jacket, black stirrup pants over a pair of thermal leggings, low-heeled leather boots, and a white shoulder bag.

This outfit was considered quite fashionable for the time.

Her flowing, wavy hair and fiery red lips perfectly showcased her passionate, fiery personality.

Once in the car, Ye Feng used the opportunity of fastening Han Xiaorui’s seatbelt to steal a kiss from the fiery red lips he had been dreaming of day and night.

"Don’t smudge my makeup," Han Xiaorui exclaimed, dodging Ye Feng’s kisses.

Ye Feng chuckled. "I’ll let you off for now. But once we have that license..."

Han Xiaorui turned her head, smiling teasingly. "Oh? So getting the license will make you bold, will it?"

Ye Feng’s face flushed at her words. "I’ve always been bold. I just believe in respecting women. I can’t be forceful."

Han Xiaorui raised an eyebrow. "And who said I wouldn’t be willing?"

"Uh..." Ye Feng was overjoyed, but then suddenly crestfallen. ’How many golden opportunities have I wasted?!’

"Haha!" Han Xiaorui burst out laughing. "Hurry up and drive. If we linger any longer, the office will be closed for the day."

Ye Feng collected himself and quickly drove to the Civil Affairs Bureau.

A handsome man and a beautiful woman will always turn heads, no matter where they are.

Ye Feng, in his crisp woolen overcoat, and Han Xiaorui, in her bright, fashionable outfit, immediately drew the attention of everyone at the Civil Affairs Bureau.

They got in line to get their license.

Ye Feng had brought candy and chocolates, which he passed out to the others in line.

By the time it was their turn, Ye Feng had finished handing out all the candy.

The clerk went through the routine procedure, asking a few questions before stamping their marriage certificates. "Congratulations. As of today, you are a legally protected married couple."

"Thank you!" Ye Feng and Han Xiaorui each took their marriage certificate.

The clerk was also smiling happily. ’A handsome man and a beautiful woman are truly a pleasant sight,’ she thought.

As they left the Civil Affairs Bureau, Ye Feng smiled. "Shall we have dinner together tonight?"

Han Xiaorui leaned against Ye Feng, her voice bright and cheerful. "Of course. And after dinner, you can take me home."

"Okay!" Ye Feng agreed, his heart soaring. ’No matter what, I’m not leaving tonight!’

They arrived at the restaurant Ye Feng had booked. It had a wonderful ambiance, and he ordered all of Han Xiaorui’s favorite dishes.

During the meal, Ye Feng said with a smile, "My grandfather and my aunt will be taking over my work, so I have two weeks off for a honeymoon. Have you made arrangements on your side?"

Han Xiaorui smiled and nodded. "All arranged. Don’t you worry!"

"So where would you like to go for our honeymoon? Hong Kong, Japan, the United States, Europe?" Ye Feng asked. He had consulted his aunt about it.

His aunt had suggested those places because their infrastructure was well-developed, they had a wealth of tourist attractions, and they would be interesting.

Han Xiaorui swallowed her food and looked at Ye Feng. "I want to go to Yunnan."

"Why Yunnan?" Ye Feng asked, looking puzzled.

Han Xiaorui smiled faintly. "Because your comrades are there."

Hearing this, Ye Feng looked stunned, and his eyes immediately reddened. "Xiao Rui, this is our honeymoon. You really don’t have to force yourself to accommodate me."

Han Xiaorui’s expression grew serious. "The weather in Yunnan is warmer than here, and the scenery is beautiful. It’s lovely even in the winter—it’s all part of our country’s magnificent landscape."

"Besides, I want to go there to pay my respects to the fallen heroes. It’s because of their sacrifice and devotion, which safeguarded our nation’s independence, that we have the peaceful lives we enjoy today."

"It’s because of them that you were lucky enough to survive, and because of that, I have such a wonderful husband now. Those were your brothers-in-arms, the men you faced life and death with. Marriage is such an important milestone. I’m sure you don’t just want to share it with your living friends and family; you must want to share it with your fallen comrades, too, right?"

"Back then, you fought side-by-side on the battlefield, dreaming of the peaceful life we have today. Shouldn’t you go and report to them? Let them know that the heroes who sacrificed themselves for their country are never forgotten."

"A hero’s sacrifice isn’t just death. As long as someone remembers them, they’re still alive! And... even when you’re happy, there’s always a shadow of sorrow in your eyes. Isn’t that because you’re missing your comrades?"
