Chapter 307: Chapter 307: Love Her with Actions

Ye Feng lowered his gaze. Large teardrops splashed from his eyes onto the table, and he couldn’t get a single word out.

Everything, absolutely everything, proved that Han Xiaorui understood him.

He had been extremely busy with work this year—falling in love, getting married, and all sorts of other things. He still hadn’t had a chance to visit his fallen comrade’s grave.

He never imagined that Han Xiaorui had kept it in mind all this time, and was even willing to choose Yunnan as their honeymoon destination.

Ye Feng grasped Han Xiaorui’s hand. "Thank you!"

He was filled with a deep sense of gratitude and love, but he didn’t know how to express it.

Han Xiaorui chuckled. "There’s no need for ’thank yous’ between a husband and wife. No scenery is more beautiful than the people you’re with. We’ll have the wedding tomorrow, rest for a night, and then the day after, you can buy the tickets. Try to get sleeper car tickets, and we’ll head over."

"This time, I also want to bring Pingping, An’an, Xiao Jing, Wu Jiao, and Wu Yao. Their brother was your comrade-in-arms, the one who took a bullet for you. We can show them the way. When we get back, they can return to their hometown and bring their mother and younger siblings to pay their respects to their brother."

Ye Feng’s eyes grew misty. "Xiao Rui, I finally understand why I love you. And I finally understand why everyone around you likes you so much."

Han Xiaorui raised an eyebrow, looking radiant. "Well, go on then. Why do you love me? Why does everyone like me?"

Ye Feng loved this about Han Xiaorui—her dazzling beauty, her bright and generous spirit. "No matter what you’re doing, you never just think about yourself. You also pay attention to what the people around you are feeling and give them what they need."

Han Xiaorui smiled and nodded. "It’s not that complicated. It all comes down to being thoughtful. My philosophy for getting along with people is simple: if you’re good to me, I’ll be good to you. If I’m good to you and you’re not good to me, then I’m done with you."

"I know I have a bit of a temper and can be blunt, but I have one very good quality: I’m always willing to extend goodwill. If that goodwill is returned, then I’ll keep it going."

"But if my goodwill isn’t treated kindly, I won’t force it. After all, I’m not money; not everyone is going to like me. You filter out the people you don’t get along with, simplify your life, get rid of the cumbersome burdens, and face life head-on with a light pack."

"Life is just a few short decades, and our time is limited. Why should I waste my precious time on people who don’t wish me well? I’m not an idiot. Precious time should only be spent on the people I care about and on meaningful things."

Compared to Han Xiaorui, Ye Feng felt his own words of praise were far too simple. He condensed a torrent of thoughts into a single sentence: "Xiao Rui, you’re just so good!"

Han Xiaorui smiled. "It’s only because you’re even better. You deserve it!"

Whether Han Xiaorui was at home or out at sea, Ye Feng would visit Jinshan Bay often.

If Ye Feng was too busy, he would call Yang Zhigang and ask him to pick up Pingping and An’an from kindergarten.

In Ye Feng’s heart, when Han Xiaorui wasn’t home, he and Yang Zhigang were the closest people Pingping and An’an had.

When the children came out of school, the first people they would see were their dad and their grandpa. The sense of security this gave them was palpable, clearly visible in both girls’ behavior.

Ye Feng and Yang Zhigang would also proactively discuss Pingping and An’an’s learning and intervention progress with their kindergarten teachers and the therapist from their psychological intervention program.

They would even ask the teachers and therapist to give them a plan for what games to play or exercises to practice with Pingping and An’an in the evenings.

They did their utmost to provide the best companionship and support during the girls’ most critical years, from ages three to six.

There were always social events in the village. When Han Xiaorui wasn’t out at sea, she would take the children to attend banquets and give the customary gifts.

Sometimes, when Han Xiaorui was out at sea, Ye Feng would prepare the gift money and take Pingping and An’an to the banquets himself.

He would introduce himself naturally and gracefully.

Seeing Ye Feng act this way, everyone in the village treated him with the utmost kindness.

This kindness was most evident in how they treated Pingping and An’an.

Not a single person in the village, adult or child, ever called Pingping and An’an "little idiots" or "fools," neither to their faces nor behind their backs.

On the contrary, they would remind their own children to greet Pingping and An’an and play with them whenever they saw them.

Ye Feng was an excellent father.

To help Pingping and An’an play with the other village children, he even bought a big bag of glass marbles.

He would play with all the village boys and girls. One of the boys, Cai Wenjun, liked Ye Feng even more than his own father.

One time, Cai Wenjun started calling Ye Feng "Dad," just like Pingping and An’an did. He even went home and told his mother, Liang Xiaoyu, that he didn’t want his dad anymore and wanted to trade him for Pingping and An’an’s dad.

Cai Wenjun’s words made Liang Xiaoyu’s heart ache.

Not wanting to argue with her husband, she had Cai Wenjun tell his grandmother what he’d said.

As soon as Granny Cai heard what her grandson said, she knew her own son wasn’t being a very good father.

Granny Cai grabbed a rolling pin and started chasing Cai Xueqin around, yelling, "You have time to shoot the breeze with your buddies, but no time to spend with your own son!"

And so, Cai Xueqin was added to the ranks of fathers taking care of their kids.

Ye Feng was never one for empty words; he showed his love for Han Xiaorui through his actions.

He was willing to become a part of her life and accept everything about her.

Han Xiaorui was a perceptive and intelligent woman; how could she not feel the depth of Ye Feng’s affection?

It made Han Xiaorui want to love him twice as much and be even better to him.

By the time they finished dinner, it was already dark out.

Ye Feng took Han Xiaorui’s hand, led her to his car, and drove her home.

’Ye Feng had been planning to stay the night. After all, they were legally married now.’

But just as they arrived, Wu Jiao passed on a message. "Brother Ye, Mr. Xu said you should head back home tonight."

Ye Feng paused. "Is it something important?"

Wu Jiao shook her head. "I didn’t ask, and Mr. Xu didn’t say. But since he specifically called to tell you to go back, it must be for a reason. Otherwise, he wouldn’t have bothered."

Ye Feng was disappointed. ’He really didn’t want to leave!’

’But alas, his grandpa was holding him back!’

Han Xiaorui could see his reluctance. "Go on, hurry back. It’s just for tonight. Starting tomorrow, we can be together properly, and no one will be able to separate us!"

Ye Feng clenched his jaw. "Right. I’ll head back first, then."

Han Xiaorui walked Ye Feng to the door, where their reluctant goodbyes turned into a long farewell kiss.

A police officer from the nearby station, just starting his patrol, saw what was happening and took a detour so as not to disturb the couple.

Ye Feng drove home, arriving at half-past eight.

On the sofa sat not only his grandma and grandpa, but his aunt as well.

"Grandpa, you called for me? Is something urgent?" Ye Feng asked as he came in and sat on the sofa beside him.
