Chapter 308: Chapter 308: Understand You, Love You

Xu Yingying pushed the documents on the table toward him. "These are a few good places for a honeymoon. There’s also a castle in the United Kingdom, owned by a distant cousin of mine, that you can borrow."

Ye Feng paused. His eyes fell upon the files, and he smiled before looking up. "We’re not going abroad for our honeymoon."

"What?" Xu Yingying was taken aback. "You were just asking me about it. I got all this information for you, and now you’re not going?"

Ye Feng nodded. "We’re not going abroad."

"Then where are you going?" Xu Yingying asked, curious as to why her nephew had suddenly changed his mind.

Ye Feng answered, "Yunnan. The Malipo Martyr’s Cemetery."

At his words, everyone was stunned silent.

Xu Yingying was the first to recover. "Ye Feng, I know you always remember your comrades-in-arms, but this is your honeymoon. Shouldn’t you let Xiao Rui decide on the destination? It’s not right for you to be so headstrong and only think of yourself."

Grandma Xu thought for a moment, then said, "That’s right. From now on, you two will be living your lives together. You have to discuss things and make decisions as a couple. You can’t just be a dictator at home. This is your honeymoon. You can visit your comrades later; the two things are separate."

Ye Feng chuckled. "This was actually Xiao Rui’s idea. She said the climate in Yunnan is nice and the scenery is picturesque. She wants to go take a look, and then pay our respects to my comrades. She wants them to know that we haven’t forgotten their sacrifice, that it was valuable and meaningful."

"As for the beautiful scenery abroad, we can go some other time. Xiao Rui said that during such a special time in our lives, we should share our joy and happiness with the people we care about. Yunnan has beautiful landscapes and lots of delicious food, so it’s a great place for a honeymoon, too."

Hearing Ye Feng’s words, Xu Yingying could see the relief and joy in her nephew’s eyes. ’So this is what Ye Feng is like when he’s understood and loved,’ she thought. ’He doesn’t have to be so gloomy and cold after all.’

"Ye Feng, Xiao Rui understands you and loves you." Xu Yingying’s expression turned serious as she spoke in a low voice. "You’re truly blessed to have found such a sincere love."

Ye Feng nodded. "Yes, I know. I’ll be sure to cherish her."

Mr. Xu smiled. "Excellent. A honeymoon is for joy and happiness. It doesn’t matter where you go, as long as you both like it. My blessings to you both."

Old Madam Xu was easily moved and found herself tearing up with emotion.

What is love?

This is it.

With a wife like that by his side, she was certain that Ye Feng would be happy for the rest of his life.

Ye Feng sat down beside Old Madam Xu. "Grandma, don’t cry. You should be happy that I’ve found such a compatible partner."

"I am happy, I’m just so happy." Old Madam Xu laughed through her tears. Now, even when her time came, she could pass on peacefully.

Ye Feng looked around at everyone and asked with a smile, "I was actually planning to stay at Xiao Rui’s place tonight. Did you all call me back just to discuss the honeymoon?"

Xu Yingying shook her head. "Of course not! Your uncle was in a car accident. My flight is at five in the morning tomorrow, so I won’t be able to make it to your wedding. I wanted to apologize to you first. Please explain it to Xiao Rui for me tomorrow."

Hearing this, Ye Feng grew tense. "Is it serious?"

Xu Yingying answered, "He broke his leg, but it’s not life-threatening. He made up an excuse for not coming before because he didn’t want us to worry. Dad, Mom, and I even grumbled about it, thinking he didn’t care about you."

"It turns out we misunderstood him. He kept it from us so we wouldn’t worry. It was only by chance that a friend of his from over there came to Shanghai. I was meeting with her, and that’s how I found out. Since your grandma and grandpa are here for your wedding, I’ll go make the trip."

Ye Feng nodded. "Auntie, please don’t worry about it. Uncle’s health is what’s important. He’s all alone over there, with no wife or kids. He needs family with him."

"Okay." Xu Yingying nodded. "When I get back, I’ll properly apologize to you and Xiao Rui."

"You don’t have to, Auntie. It was an accident, it’s not like you’re skipping it on purpose," Ye Feng replied. "Once you get there, be sure to send a telegram or a fax."

"I will," Xu Yingying promised.

At three-thirty in the morning, Xu Yingying got up. A driver took her to the airport for her flight to the United States.

Mr. Xu, Old Madam Xu, Yang Zhigang, Granny Cai, and Ye Zheng were all there to host the wedding of Han Xiaorui and Ye Feng.

Wang Liwen, however, did not come. Ye Zheng brought Ye Chen to the wedding.

Wang Liwen had bought a ticket for Ye Ling, so he arrived in Shanghai on the same flight as Ye Zheng and Ye Chen.

Ye Ling had already arrived, saying he was there for his older brother’s wedding, so Ye Zheng couldn’t very well turn him away.

On their grandson’s big day, Mr. Xu and Old Madam Xu chose not to dwell on it. They focused only on making the wedding as perfect as possible, ignoring Wang Liwen’s petty scheming.

Friends and family from both home and abroad came to attend Ye Feng’s banquet, and many of Ye Zheng’s relatives and friends came as well.

From Han Xiaorui’s side, her younger sister was there, along with Granny Cai, Yang Zhigang, Yang Jianguo, Wu Cuicui, and other friendly neighbors and boatmen from her village.

Liang Xiaoyu chimed in, "Oh my goodness, Xiao Rui’s wedding is so lavish. She’s already changed outfits a few times in just a short while—a wedding dress, then another gown. It’s really incredible."

Chen Yishui laughed. "Well, what do you expect? Our boss is no ordinary person. Just look how happy the groom’s family is—you can tell they’re thrilled. And I’m not just boasting, but any man who marries our boss is incredibly lucky. She brings good fortune to her husband and his entire family."

Sister Tang leaned in and whispered, "Our boss has the looks, the figure, and the skills. A perfect wife you couldn’t find even if you searched with a lantern, and he just let her go? Divorcing our boss... is that Yang Jianming’s brain filled with crap?"

Hearing this, Sister Lan burst out laughing. "Sister Tang, watch your language! We’re surrounded by a feast of delicacies; don’t talk about such disgusting things."

Sister Tang just giggled. "I just don’t get it."

Liang Xiaoyu smiled. She and her mother-in-law often talked about Yang Jianming, too.

"It’s normal not to get it. That Yang Jianming is in the United States now, getting a taste of the foreign life. To be honest, aside from being handsome, he was never good enough for Xiao Rui in any other way."

"But let’s not talk about that anymore. Our boss is with Ye Feng now, and she’s going to be completely happy. Ye Feng will definitely be a good husband and a good father."

"Ye Feng often picks up Pingping and An’an from kindergarten now, and he plays with them and the other village children. My son, Wenjun, follows Ye Feng around calling him ’Dad.’ He thinks Ye Feng is such a good father that he doesn’t want his real dad anymore."

Chen Yishui was taken aback by this. "Didn’t Sister Cai chase Cai Xueqin all over the village with a rolling pin not too long ago? Was it because he wasn’t spending enough time playing with his kid?"

"Yup!" Liang Xiaoyu answered. "Because of that, he’s changed his ways. Now he picks up our son after work and plays with him. If he stops, I’ll just tattle to my mother-in-law again, and he’ll get another beating."

Chen Yishui nodded, filled with emotion. "It just goes to show, love is something you can see in a person’s actions. Even if nothing is said, children can feel it. My ex-husband... we married for love, but thinking back now, he never seemed to care much about our child."

"After the divorce, he would come see our child on weekends and take him out to play. At first, it was fine; he came around often. But he stopped coming recently. I asked around and found out he’s busy going on arranged dates."

Liang Xiaoyu thought for a moment, then asked, "Is he paying child support?"
