The Smiling Death

Chapter 570: Her Feelings

  • Next Chapter

Seraphina remained sprawled across her bed, lost deeply in her own thoughts.

The more she tried to understand her feelings, the more confused she became.

She needed to talk to someone. Someone who understood these things better than she did.

But who? Eliana immediately came to mind.

Seraphina imagined telling her everything—the racing heartbeat, the strange warmth whenever Amon was close, the unpleasant feeling she experienced whenever she saw him being affectionate with Scarlett.

Her expression immediately stiffened.

’Absolutely not.’

Eliana would tease her to death. Worse, the elf would probably reach the most obvious conclusion within seconds.

’You’re in love with him.’

"No..."

Seraphina muttered quietly.

"It can’t be that..."

Yet even she had already considered that possibility. Several times. She had simply pushed it aside whenever it appeared.

How could she accept something like that Amon already loved someone. That woman was Scarlett.

And unlike some one-sided relationship, Scarlett clearly loved him just as much. They were already together.

Seraphina hugged the Amon doll tighter.

’But...’

A dangerous thought entered her mind.

’He does talk about having a harem sometimes...’

Her golden eyes widened slightly.

’But that’s a joke, isn’t it?’

She quickly shook her head.

’What am I thinking?!’

She rolled onto her back and stared at the ceiling.

’So what if he wants a harem? That doesn’t mean I should join it!’

Besides, Amon teased almost everyone.

He flirted shamelessly and said ridiculous things without thinking twice about them, but Seraphina knew he rarely had any malicious intentions behind his behavior.

"Sigh..."

She released a long, exhausted breath. She wasn’t physically tired. Her mind was exhausted.

Fighting monsters was easier than this. At least monsters were straightforward.

Then, unfortunately, another memory surfaced.

Scarlett leaning toward Amon. Their faces being closer. Their lips meeting. Seraphina’s cheeks slowly became warm.

Without realizing it, she lifted her index finger and touched her own lips.

’How would it feel...’

Her eyes lowered toward the Amon doll.

’...to kiss Amon?’

Silence. Her golden eyes suddenly widened.

’What am I thinking?!’

She immediately covered her face.

’This is bad! This is really bad! I just imagined kissing him!’

Her heart hammered inside her chest. Every argument she’d used to convince herself that this was merely friendship was slowly falling apart.

Seraphina lowered her hands. Her gaze returned to the little doll. That familiar, carefree appearance.

She stared at it for a long time. Then her expression gradually softened.

’It seems...’

She swallowed nervously.

’I really...’

Her lips parted.

"...love you."

The words were barely louder than a whisper. Yet the moment she said them, Seraphina froze.

Her heart skipped a beat. She gulped.

There she had said it. Even if Amon wasn’t here to hear her. She had finally said it aloud.

’I need to talk to Sister Selena.’

That seemed like the safest option. Selena was mature enough not to tease her endlessly like Eliana probably would.

’Only she can help me understand this.’

Seraphina hugged the doll against herself again.

"And if I really love him..."

She stopped. Her eyes lowered.

"...then what?"

Amon already had Scarlett. That fact wouldn’t disappear simply because Seraphina had finally understood her own feelings.

"Sigh..."

She shook her head. Enough, she desperately needed something else to think about.

Anything else would do.

"Status Window."

A translucent panel appeared before her.

---

Seraphina’s romantic worries gradually faded as her attention shifted toward her status. Her eyes immediately stopped on one particular entry.

[???]

She frowned. It had appeared under her Skills after her battle against Alaric. Yet no matter how many times she checked it, nothing had changed.

There was no name, no description.

"What are you...?"

She had tried activating it before, but there had been no response. Eventually, her gaze moved downward.

[Divine Sword of Light]

Seraphina’s expression became serious. This ability was different.

It had allowed her to survive against Alaric. For those few minutes, she had been able to fight an opponent who should have completely overwhelmed her.

But there was something about the experience that bothered her everytime she used it. The moment she summoned that golden sword.

Her body had stopped feeling entirely like her own. Seraphina slowly raised her hand and stared at her fingers.

She could still remember it vividly. Her movements had changed. Her reactions had become unnaturally precise. Her swordsmanship had reached a level she shouldn’t have possessed.

It wasn’t as though someone had literally seized control of her body. She had still been conscious. She had still known what she was doing.

Yet it had felt as if the sword itself were guiding her.

Every step, every swing, every movement., almost as though something else already knew exactly how she should fight, and her body had simply followed those instincts.

Then there had been the heat. Seraphina placed a hand against her chest. The energy flowing through her had been unbearable.

It felt as though pure light had been poured directly into her body. Her muscles burned. Her blood felt hot.

Even her bones seemed to ache beneath the overwhelming energy. Yet the strangest part wasn’t the pain. It was her reaction to it. She hadn’t been afraid. She hadn’t even thought there was anything wrong.

Instead she had accepted it.

As though the scorching pain belonged to her.

As though being consumed from within by that brilliant light was somehow completely natural.

Now that she could calmly think about what had happened Seraphina didn’t like that feeling at all.

’That power didn’t feel like mine.’

That’s why she mostly avoid using that ability. Her golden eyes narrowed.

’It felt... borrowed.’

Borrowed from something or someone far beyond her. And then there was the name.

Divine Sword of Light.

’Divine...’

In Seraphina’s mind, there was one obvious existence associated with that word and her element.

’The Goddess of Light.’

She stared silently at the ability. Was there actually a connection? She didn’t know.

Even her class, Incarnation Of Light. The name sound like something related to that Goddess.

Another thought bothered her.

Despite everything that had happened, she hadn’t suddenly become powerful enough to truly match Alaric.

Her physical strength hadn’t risen to the level of a Transcendent. Neither had her mana. What had truly threatened Alaric was the sword.

The sheer energy contained within the Divine Sword had been terrifying enough that even Alaric had instinctively become cautious.

The sword had temporarily bridged a gap that Seraphina herself couldn’t.

But relying on a weapon she barely understood was dangerous.

Especially when using it made her feel like someone else was guiding her body.

"Sigh..."

Seraphina dismissed the thought for now.

"I need to train this ability properly."

She couldn’t remain dependent on something she didn’t control.

"And I need more Master-rank spells..."

Her current arsenal wasn’t weak, but she’d focused far more heavily on swordsmanship than conventional magic.

That battle had exposed the weakness. If she wanted to become stronger, she needed more options.

More powerful offensive spells. Better defensive techniques.

And most importantly complete control over the Divine Sword.

"I have a lot to do."

With another sigh, Seraphina closed her Status Window. The glowing panel vanished.

Then her eyes naturally returned to the Amon doll lying beside her.

"..."

Seraphina stared at it. The doll stared back with its permanently expressionless little face.

"..."

She glanced toward the door. Then the window. No one was there. She was literally on upper floor.

Seraphina slowly picked up the doll. Her face gradually turned pink. She brought it closer.

Stopped and pulled it away.

"This is stupid..."

She stared at it again. Then, before she could lose her courage.

Chu~

She quickly kissed the doll directly on the lips.

"...!"

Seraphina froze. Her entire face turned bright red. A second later, she threw herself face-first into her cushion.

"Ahhhhh!"

She hugged the cushion tightly and rolled across the bed.

Then back again.

"I actually did it!"

She buried her burning face deeper into the cushion.

"Why did I do that?!"

She continued rolling around for several minutes in sheer embarrassment. Meanwhile, the innocent Amon doll remained abandoned on the mattress.

Seraphina eventually peeked at it from behind her cushion. Her cheeks were still crimson.

"...Don’t tell him."

The doll, thankfully, kept her secret.

---

Meanwhile, Amon, completely unaware of Seraphina’s secret feelings, was equally shocked.

"You really want that?"

"Yes. Having her as your lover... and eventually your wife would be beneficial to you. You would gain Sir Alaric’s protection," Scarlett said in a serious tone.

"Hey! But why would they allow her to be with a commoner like me?!"

"Didn’t you say it yourself? Her grandfather said he would allow her to marry anyone she truly loves... even if that person is a commoner."

"Well, he did say that..." Amon paused before looking at her. "But what about you?"

Scarlett blinked. "What about me?"

"Would you really be fine with me having another lover? And will she be okay?"

"I know you can convince her."

Amon stared at her for a moment before shaking his head.

"No, Scarlett. That’s not right."

Scarlett silently stared at her foolish man.

Somehow, the shameless playboy who used to joke about having a harem had transformed into an innocent, righteous man in the span of a few seconds.

It seemed she needed to have a long, very serious conversation with Amon.

By being kind in this world, one could never be happy. So she need to pulled out bad Amon from him.
