Chapter 623: Saving Someone (1)

The house was located on the outskirts of the village, a little distance away from the other houses. Because of its remote location, it would be a good place to fight.

Amon kicked off the ground. His figure shot forward, cutting through the darkness with astonishing speed. His left arm moved so quickly that it became nothing more than a blur.

Whoosh!

The hatchet left his hand, spinning rapidly through the air as it tore through the cold night breeze with a whistling sound.

Under the pale moonlight, its darkened blade drew a fleeting line through the darkness, shooting straight toward the cloaked figure standing at the front.

The man had been keeping watch over their surroundings when he suddenly sensed the incoming attack.

His head snapped toward the approaching weapon.

"?!"

He reacted instantly.

A long sword materialized in his hand, and blue mana surged around its blade, coating the metal in a shimmering aura. The mana-enhanced weapon gleamed beneath the moonlight, its edge becoming considerably sharper and more durable.

"WE’RE UNDER ATTACK!"

His shout shattered the silence of the night.

The other two men reacted immediately.

The figure carrying the unconscious girl stiffened, tightening his hold on her, while the third man hurriedly climbed out through the window.

Meanwhile, the man with the sword stepped forward and swung at the incoming hatchet.

CLANG!

Sparks flew as the two weapons collided.

The hatchet was knocked off course, spinning away through the air.

However, the man barely had time to regain his balance before he noticed a dark figure rushing toward him.

Amon.

His face was completely concealed beneath a layer of darkness, leaving only his eye sockets exposed.

The man narrowed his eyes.

"Just one attacker?"

The third man had now emerged from the house. He quickly retrieved a spear from his storage ring, gripping its shaft tightly as he turned toward Amon.

"Looks like it. No big deal!"

The swordsman sneered.

The three men had clearly not expected anyone to discover them in the middle of their operation. However, seeing that their attacker was alone, they quickly regained their composure.

The man with the sword rushed toward Amon, his mana-coated blade raised for an attack.

At the same time, the spearman circled around from the side, attempting to attack Amon from another angle.

They intended to overwhelm him with a coordinated assault.

Unfortunately for them, Amon had no intention of holding back. As he charged forward, a tiny drop of blood emerged from a wound on his chest.

It floated into the air beside him, almost invisible against the darkness.

At the same moment, the hatchet that had been deflected by the swordsman suddenly changed direction.

Under Amon’s control, it spun through the air and flew straight back toward his outstretched left hand.

He caught it effortlessly.

CLANG!

Amon’s blackened sword collided with the swordsman’s mana-coated blade.

The impact sent sparks scattering through the air. The swordsman’s expression changed as he felt the force behind Amon’s attack.

"What the hell?"

He had expected to overpower a lone attacker, but the strength behind that single clash was far greater than he had anticipated.

He gritted his teeth and pushed against Amon’s blade.

"Who are you?!"

His gaze fixed on the mysterious figure’s face, which remained completely hidden beneath the veil of darkness.

Amon didn’t answer.

Instead, he twisted his wrist and swung his hatchet sideways. The swordsman hurriedly shifted his weapon to intercept the attack.

At that moment, the spearman arrived from Amon’s flank.

"I’LL KILL YOU!"

He thrust his spear toward Amon, intending to catch him while he was occupied with the swordsman.

But Amon had already anticipated his move. The tiny drop of blood floating above him suddenly expanded.

In the blink of an eye, it stretched and transformed into a long, razor-sharp lance of crimson blood.

The spearman’s eyes widened. The blood lance shot toward him with incredible speed.

"What the—?!"

The spearman leaped sideways, desperately trying to evade the crimson lance. However, to his horror, the blood weapon abruptly changed direction and pursued him like a living creature.

Even the swordsman, who was locked in a fierce exchange of blows with Amon, couldn’t help glancing at his comrade.

"Cleric!"

The spearman, Cleric, immediately raised his free hand. Mana surged around his palm, and a translucent shield materialized before him just as the blood lance came hurtling toward him.

At that moment, Amon seized the opportunity.

Darkness and shadow flowed from his blade and spread across his opponent’s sword.

The shadow quickly wrapped around the enemy weapon, and the darkness covering it reinforced its hold, binding the two blades together.

The swordsman’s eyes widened as he realized what had happened. He instinctively tried to pull his weapon free, but it was already too late.

Amon’s hatchet came crashing down, burying itself deep into the man’s right shoulder.

"ARGH!"

A scream of pain escaped the swordsman’s mouth as warm blood splattered across his brown cloak.

BOOM!

A deafening explosion erupted as the crimson lance slammed into Cleric’s mana shield. The collision sent a shock wave through the surroundings, and a cloud of dust billowed into the air, briefly obscuring the battlefield.

A short distance away, the third man stood frozen with the unconscious girl in his arms.

He swallowed nervously as he watched his two companions struggle against their masked opponent.

"Who the hell is this guy?!" He muttered.

They had expected to abduct an ordinary looking village girl without attracting any attention. Yet, in less than a minute, their carefully planned operation had turned into a nightmare.

The injured swordsman gritted his teeth, his right shoulder throbbing with unbearable pain. He turned toward the man holding the girl.

"Roman! Take the girl and run!"

Roman didn’t need to be told twice. Clutching the unconscious girl tightly, he immediately turned and sprinted away from the house.

Amon noticed him attempting to escape from the corner of his eye. However, before he could pursue the fleeing man, Cleric emerged from the settling dust.

Although his mana shield had blocked most of the blood lance’s force, it hadn’t protected him completely. A deep cut ran along the side of his upper arm, and blood trickled down his bicep.

Cleric glanced at his injured arm before fixing his gaze on Amon. His expression twisted with anger.

"Shane, let’s kill him!"

The swordsman, Shane, didn’t bother replying. Despite his injured shoulder, he forced himself forward and charged at Amon, his sword raised for another attack.

At the same time, Cleric planted his spear firmly against the ground and began channeling mana. The air around him grew hot as flickering flames gathered near the spearhead.

The fire rapidly intensified, coiling around the weapon as he prepared to unleash a spell.
