"Gray! Finish it! Before it recovers!" Cindy shouted.

Gray’s tentacles coiled tight, his serrated bell already angled for the killing strike.

’Roger, ma’am.’

He shot forward with his Abyssal Spear skill ready to strike, crystal spikes lining his tentacles like the teeth of a closing jaw. The Tri-Cephalon Terror was still stunned, its exposed body twitching, its three heads drooping.

This was it. One clean hit and the fight would be over.

Then the ice shattered.

The Frozen Prison around the Wrathful head exploded outward in a storm of jagged shards. Gray twisted mid-charge, shielding his bell from the debris.

Then... Gray saw something horrific.

The Wrathful head had turned on its siblings.

Its jaws, still crackling with residual lightning, clamped down on the Serene head’s neck. The Serene head’s eyes snapped open, wide with shock, its mouth opening to scream but no sound came out. The Wrathful head bit down harder, its teeth grinding through scales and flesh and bone.

The Frenzied head shrieked, trying to pull away, but the Wrathful head was faster. It lunged sideways, its jaws closing around the Frenzied head’s throat.

CRUNCH!

The Serene head went limp first, its eyes glazing over, its body dangling from the Wrathful head’s jaws like a broken toy.

The Frenzied head thrashed wildly, its chaotic bolts firing in every direction, but the Wrathful head didn’t let go. It shook its prey violently, teeth tearing through the neck, severing arteries and nerves and everything else.

CRUNCH!

The Frenzied head stopped moving.

Gray hovered in the water, frozen mid-charge, his mind struggling to process what he was seeing.

’...What the hell?’

The Wrathful head released the two lifeless heads and turned toward Gray. Its eyes burned with the intelligence of three minds that had just become one.

The Tri-Cephalon Terror had eaten its own siblings.

The system flickered, the analysis window glitching violently before stabilizing into something new.

[TRI-CEPHALON TERROR — MUTATED VARIANT]

« Analysis »

The Tri-Cephalon Terror has consumed its own sibling heads, absorbing their mana and integrating their elemental affinities into its remaining body. The creature is now a singular entity, no longer divided. Its electrical output has tripled. Its combat intelligence has merged into a single, focused mind.

WARNING: This mutation is irreversible. The creature has abandoned defense entirely. It will not retreat. It will not stop.

"...Gray... it just ate its own heads." Cindy said in shock.

Gray stared at the creature, the creature is like terror itself.

’Yeah,’ he said quietly. ’I noticed.’

The Wrathful head opened its jaws wide. Lightning crackled between its teeth, brighter and more concentrated than before. The veins across its shell flared brilliant blue-white, pulsing with the combined mana of three minds.

It was no longer a fortress... it was a storm.

And it was coming straight for him.

Gray braced himself, his own electricity crackling along his tentacles in answer.

’Alright,’ he said. ’Thanks for saving me the trouble.’

The mutated Tri-Cephalon Terror let out a roar that shook the water for dozens of meters.

GROOAAAGHHHHHGG!!!

The mutated Tri-Cephalon Terror lunged.

Its massive body shot through the water with terrifying speed, no longer weighed down by three separate heads. The single remaining head was sleeker, more focused, its jaws gaping wide as lightning arced between its teeth.

Gray pulsed sideways, Flow State screaming around him. The jaws snapped shut on empty water, but the electrical discharge that followed wasn’t aimed at him.

It was aimed everywhere.

A dome of lightning erupted from the creature’s body, expanding outward in every direction. Gray had nowhere to dodge. The current slammed into him, locking his muscles.

[-96 HP]

[PARALYSIS — 2 SECONDS]

[GRAY ASHFORD — HP: 508 / 1100]

’Ghhgh!’

The mutated Terror didn’t waste the opening. It lunged again, jaws aimed directly at Gray’s frozen bell.

Cindy’s voice cut through the pain.

"[Frozen Prison]!"

Ice erupted around the creature’s head, encasing its jaws mid-snap. The Terror thrashed, its lightning discharging into the ice, cracking it from within.

"I can’t hold it long!" Cindy shouted. "It’s stronger now!"

Gray forced his body to move, breaking through the paralysis with sheer will. He fired Cavitation Pulse point-blank into the frozen head. The superheated jet shattered the ice and struck the creature’s face.

[CAVITATION PULSE — 148 DAMAGE]

[TRI-CEPHALON TERROR — HP: 1052 / 2400]

The Terror roared, its head snapping free of the remaining ice. But Gray was already moving, circling wide, putting distance between them.

’Its output tripled,’ he thought. ’I can’t take another direct hit like that.’

Cindy drifted closer, her frills rigid with concentration.

"Gray, I have an idea. But it’s risky."

’Talk fast.’

"The mutated body absorbed the other heads’ mana, right? That means its mana channels are overloaded. If I can disrupt them from the inside—"

’You want to cast a spell inside its body?’

"I want you to give me an opening. Get close, and I’ll hit it with everything I have."

Gray watched the Terror as it turned toward them, its single head scanning the water with cold, unified intelligence.

’How close?’

"Very close."

’...Alright.’

Gray shot forward, Abyssal Lance activating. The Terror saw him coming and fired a concentrated Thunder Lance directly at him. Gray twisted, letting the lance graze his armor, and kept going.

[-72 HP]

[GRAY ASHFORD — HP: 436 / 1100]

The Terror’s jaws opened wide, lightning crackling. Gray didn’t dodge.

He dove directly into its mouth.

The teeth clamped down around him, grinding against his armor. Lightning surged through his body, and his HP dropped in brutal increments.

[-64 HP]

[-58 HP]

[-52 HP]

[GRAY ASHFORD — HP: 262 / 1100]

’CINDY! NOW!’

"[MANA DISRUPTION]!"

Cindy’s voice rang out, and a pulse of silver light shot from her hands. The spell struck the Terror’s head and passed through its flesh, sinking deep into its body.

The effect was immediate.

The Terror convulsed. Its lightning flickered wildly, the veins across its shell stuttering and dimming. Its jaws sprang open, and Gray tore himself free, trailing fluids and sparks.

[TRI-CEPHALON TERROR — MANA CHANNELS DESTABILIZED]

[HP: 1052 / 2400 → 1052 / 2400]

[MP: 1200 / 1200 → 0 / 1200]

[ALL ELECTRICAL ABILITIES — DISABLED]

The Terror thrashed, its body wracked with internal chaos. Without mana, it couldn’t fire lightning. It couldn’t discharge electricity. It was just a giant, armored turtle with a single head and a lot of rage.

’You’re done,’ Gray said.

He shot forward, Abyssal Lance charging. The Terror tried to bite him, but its movements were sluggish, uncoordinated. Gray twisted past its jaws and drove his crystalline barbs into its exposed neck.

[CRITICAL HIT!]

[ABYSSAL LANCE — 204 DAMAGE]

[TRI-CEPHALON TERROR — HP: 848 / 2400]

[BLEEDING — 22 DAMAGE PER SECOND]

The Terror screamed, its body convulsing. Gray didn’t let up. He wrapped four tentacles around its neck and activated Grip Jaw.

[GRIP JAW — 52 DAMAGE]

[GRIP JAW — 48 DAMAGE]

[TRI-CEPHALON TERROR — HP: 726 / 2400]

Cindy’s voice came, strained but steady.

"[Spell Piercer]!"

A spear of silver light shot past Gray and punched through the Terror’s eye. The creature’s struggles weakened, its screams turning to gurgles.

[SPELL PIERCER — 118 DAMAGE]

[TRI-CEPHALON TERROR — HP: 608 / 2400]

Gray tightened his grip. Overcharge detonated directly into the Terror’s exposed neck.

[OVERCHARGE — 172 DAMAGE]

[TRI-CEPHALON TERROR — HP: 436 / 2400]

[STUN — 5 SECONDS]

The Terror went rigid. Gray released it and drifted back, his bell heaving, his HP barely above 260.

’One more.’

He gathered the last of his mana and activated Abyssal Lance one final time. His body compressed into a spear of dark crystal, and he shot forward, straight through the Terror’s exposed neck.

[ABYSSAL LANCE — 208 DAMAGE]

[TRI-CEPHALON TERROR — HP: 228 / 2400]

[SEVERE BLEEDING — 28 DAMAGE PER SECOND]

The Terror’s body went limp. Its single head drooped, its eyes glazing over. The bleeding from its neck drained its HP in steady, unstoppable ticks.

[TRI-CEPHALON TERROR — HP: 228 → 200 → 172 → 144 → 116 → 88 → 60 → 32 → 4 ]

[TRI-CEPHALON TERROR — HP: 0 / 2400]

[TRI-CEPHALON TERROR DEFEATED — 2,700 EXP]

[LEVEL UP!]

[You are now Level 40.]

[EVOLUTION AVAILABLE]

’...We did it.’

Cindy drifted beside him, her glow faint, her frills drooping.

"We did," she said quietly. "We actually did."

Gray stared at the corpse of the Tri-Cephalon Terror, the creature that had eaten its own heads to survive.

’It was willing to consume itself just to win,’ he said. ’That’s... terrifying.’

"It was desperate," Cindy said. "And desperate things are the most dangerous."

Gray absorbed the corpse slowly, his feeding surface working through the dense, mana-rich flesh. The taste was sharp and electric, like biting into a thundercloud.

[LEVEL 40 — EVOLUTION AVAILABLE]

[Analyzing accumulated traits, skills, combat data, and environmental exposure...]

[Complete Traits Detected: 9]

[Generating evolution paths...]

Gray closed his eyes, letting the warmth of the level-up wash through him.

’Time to see what I become next.’
