Chapter 111: 111 The Massacre Of The North

111 The Massacre Of The North

Northern Mountain Range

The first clash happened before the two armies had even reached their respective offensive and defensive lines.

Hundreds of arrows were fired at the same time, cutting through the sky. The Medusas fired first.

The arrows crossed the air like a dark rain, descending upon the first ranks of the Beastmen and Lizardmen.

"SHIELDS!"

One of the enemy commanders gave the order, which echoed across the battlefield. In response, the soldiers raised their shields.

Some of the arrows found their targets. One pierced the neck of a Lizardman.

Another entered the eye of a Beastman.

The third pierced a soldier’s thigh, causing him to fall while his companions continued advancing over him, killing him in the process.

Some arrows were coated with poison, and the soldiers who were struck by them began losing strength only a few seconds later.

But it was not enough to slow their advance. The first ranks simply advanced over the dead.

The Beastmen did not slow down. On the contrary, the more blood appeared on the battlefield, the more brutal they became.

Vaelra watched everything from atop a rocky formation. Beside her stood Elyra, holding a long sword with both hands.

Both were tenth-stage Profound Nascence cultivators who were in command of the Medusa army in this mountainous area.

Behind them, approximately one thousand two hundred and fifty warriors waited.

Vaelra did not take her eyes off the enemy.

"Don’t waste your energy."

Her voice remained firm.

"They haven’t shown their true strength yet."

Elyra nodded.

"Neither have we."

Vaelra looked at her.

"You recently reached the tenth stage. Don’t try to prove anything today. If we survive this war, you will receive the position of Elder of the Clan."

Elyra tightened her grip on the sword.

"I’m not trying to prove anything, Elder. I will carry out the position with dedication for the benefit of the Clan."

She looked at the approaching army.

"We will definitely survive."

Vaelra thought for a few seconds before answering:

"In that case, survive."

The first enemy troops finally reached the Medusas’ lines. The initial impact was brutal and bloody.

Swords and spears collided, striking bodies.

Axes crushed skulls, and spiritual energy exploded in every direction.

The Medusas were extremely agile. Their flexible bodies allowed them to dodge attacks that would have struck other cultivators in their place.

A Body Tempering warrior leaned her body backward at the exact moment a sword passed just a few centimeters from her face.

She spun again, and her body moved with speed and flexibility. In response, the blade in her hand pierced the Lizardman’s throat.

To replace the fallen soldier, another enemy immediately advanced.

She jumped.

The Beastman attacked with both hands. The blow struck only the ground, and the stone exploded.

The Medusa landed softly behind him, her gaze glowing as she fired a green beam.

The Beastman began to harden. Stone spread up his neck, but before the petrification could complete the process, another soldier attacked.

She had to abandon the first enemy and dodge. The battle had begun, and there was no room for mistakes.

A Profound Elemental cultivator advanced against two Beastmen. Her spiritual energy enveloped her body, blocking a spear.

CLANG!

The impact made her arm tremble. When the second enemy attacked from the side, she had to lower her body.

The blade passed above her head. Her body spun acrobatically, after which she advanced and cut open the Beastman’s abdomen.

Blood fell onto the stones on the ground, but before she could finish the attack, a claw struck her shoulder, tearing through the flesh.

She screamed as the Beastman tried to tear off her arm. The Medusa reacted immediately.

Her eyes glowed, and the enemy froze in place. His face began to harden. She then pulled her sword.

The blade pierced through his petrified chest. The two fell almost at the same time, both dead.

Around them, hundreds did the same, trading their lives for those of their opponents. The battlefield began disappearing beneath blood, dust, and corpses.

The defensive formations were still active.

Whenever large groups of enemies reached certain areas, lines of light appeared on the ground.

BOOM!

An explosion sent several soldiers flying through the air. Some broke their arms when they fell.

Others were crushed against the rocks, but the enemy army continued advancing.

Eighteen thousand soldiers and countless wild beasts had been distributed across the four fronts. Each area of the mountain range had more than four thousand enemy soldiers.

Even after the losses suffered during the march, the strait, and the destruction of the logistics base, there was still an overwhelming number of enemies.

And only a small portion had truly entered the battle. More soldiers continued arriving.

Atop an elevation, Velka watched. The enemy commander held a longbow; she did not advance with the troops.

Her eyes swept across the battlefield, the formations, the elevations, the positions of the archers, and the routes used by the Medusas.

She breathed slowly and then pulled the bowstring. Spiritual energy began to surround the arrow.

"This formation has become a problem for my soldiers to advance."

Her gaze found a defensive structure.

"I’ll destroy it first."

The arrow was released.

SHIIING!

It crossed hundreds of meters. A Medusa cultivator noticed it too late.

"CAREFUL!"

BOOM!

The arrow struck the formation, causing an explosion that opened a huge crack in the spiritual structure of the defensive formation.

Two Medusas were thrown backward. One fell with her shoulder dislocated, while the other struck a rock and remained motionless.

Velka prepared another arrow. Elyra frowned.

"She’s destroying our formations one by one, allowing the enemies to enter our defensive lines."

Vaelra watched the trajectory.

"Then stop her."

Elyra turned her head.

"With pleasure."

Vaelra raised her sword.

"Show her that dealing with a Medusa isn’t easy."

Elyra took a deep breath and then disappeared from everyone’s sight, moving at an astonishing speed.

BOOM!

Spiritual energy exploded beneath her feet as she crossed dozens of meters in an instant.

Velka noticed her approach.

"Come and test my bow."

She pulled the bowstring, but Elyra arrived before the arrow could be fired.

CLANG!

The long sword collided with the bow. The force of the impact made Velka slide several meters. She abandoned the bow and retreated.

Elyra advanced. The sword cut through the air, but Velka dodged in time. The blade passed close to her face and opened a cut across her cheek.

Blood flowed. Velka touched the wound and looked at her fingers.

"Tenth stage..."

Elyra kept her sword raised.

"Yes."

Velka smiled.

"So you’re one of the new ones who awakened, aren’t you?"

"Does that matter?"
