112 Killing a tenth-level cultivator in the nascent profound realm.
"It matters because it means you still haven’t completely mastered this power."
Elyra tightened her grip on the sword.
"Your two companions said the same thing before they died by my sword."
Her spiritual energy began to rise.
"My current power is enough to kill you."
Velka disappeared, and the two collided again.
BOOM!
The first explosion destroyed part of a rocky formation.
BOOM!
The second opened a crack in the ground.
CLANG!
Their weapons collided.
Velka was fast, and Elyra was as well.
The two disappeared and reappeared among the rocks. No lower-level soldier could follow their movements.
Velka fired an arrow at point-blank range. Elyra tilted her body in a surreal movement.
The arrow passed by her face, but she continued advancing. Her sword struck Velka’s arm.
A deep cut appeared.
Velka retreated, but Elyra gave her no room, delivering another strike that Velka had to block in a hurry.
The impact made her feet sink several centimeters into the ground.
"You’re stronger than you look."
Elyra was breathing heavily.
"And you talk too much."
She advanced when Velka tried to retreat, but it was already too late.
Elyra’s sword pierced through her abdomen. The commander’s eyes widened as blood flowed from her mouth.
Elyra withdrew her sword with a beautiful smile on her face. Velka fell to her knees, her hand pressing against the wound.
She tried to breathe, but couldn’t. The sword had been coated with Medusa poison.
Her body collapsed onto the rocks.
The bow commander was dead.
Elyra remained motionless for a few seconds before looking toward the battlefield.
"One is already dead."
Unfortunately, there was no time to celebrate. A powerful presence appeared behind her.
Elyra turned around.
Zarek.
The commander was covered in heavy armor, his presence carrying the pressure of a cultivator at the tenth stage of the Profound Nascence.
He held his weapon with one hand.
"You damned bitch, you killed Velka."
Elyra raised her sword.
"Yes, and you’re next."
Zarek advanced.
BOOM!
The attack struck Elyra’s defense, sending her several meters backward. Her body slammed violently against a stone wall.
Blood flowed from her mouth as Zarek slowly walked toward her.
"You’re too young."
Elyra tried to stand, but her arm was trembling.
"Maybe I am, but..."
She gripped her sword.
"But I’m still alive, and I can fight all day."
Zarek raised his weapon, but before he could attack, Vaelra appeared.
CLANG!
The Elder’s sword blocked the general’s strike. Spiritual pressure exploded.
Zarek retreated.
Vaelra remained standing before Elyra.
"You will not touch her."
Zarek smiled.
"So you’ve finally decided to fight. I thought you would just stay focused on the formation."
Vaelra did not answer.
Her spiritual energy increased considerably, and the air around them became heavy. The nearby rocks began to crack.
Elyra looked at her.
"Elder..."
"Get up."
"I’m injured."
"I know."
Vaelra did not take her eyes off Zarek.
"Then use the pain to remind yourself that you’re still alive."
Elyra gritted her teeth and stood up.
The battle between the two tenth-stage cultivators began.
BOOM!
Vaelra’s sword collided with Zarek’s weapon. The explosion destroyed part of the rocky formation.
Zarek advanced.
Vaelra dodged.
The weapon passed by her body. She spun skillfully and struck his chest.
Zarek retreated, blood appearing at the corner of his mouth as he smiled.
"This is what I was talking about. Now this is someone who can satisfy my thirst for battle. Come, don’t die too quickly."
Vaelra breathed slowly.
"Let’s see who dies first."
"That’s the spirit. Let’s do this."
He advanced again.
The two disappeared.
BOOM!
Another impact.
Every clash made the ground tremble.
While the two fought, the rest of the battlefield continued transforming into a massacre.
The Beastmen advanced with terrifying ferocity.
They didn’t care about their own injuries.
One Beastman had a sword pierced through his shoulder.
He simply grabbed the weapon with his hand, completely ignoring the blood, and advanced anyway, striking the Medusa in the face.
She fell.
He raised his axe when another Medusa appeared, her sword piercing through his neck.
Both fell, but more enemies arrived.
The Medusas retreated several meters.
"RETREAT!"
Vaelra’s order echoed across the battlefield.
The warriors began an organized retreat.
The strongest protected the wounded while the archers fired as they retreated.
The Profound Elemental cultivators used spiritual energy to increase their speed.
But the enemies did not allow them to rest.
The formations began losing stability.
One after another.
CRACK!
CRACK!
CRASH!
An entire formation collapsed, causing dozens of Medusas to be thrown to the ground.
One of them had a completely broken leg.
Another had a deep cut across her abdomen and chest.
A third had lost part of her spiritual protection and could barely remain standing.
Elyra looked around.
"We’re losing ground."
Vaelra blocked another strike from Zarek.
"I know."
"We need to retreat to the third line."
"We can’t."
Elyra frowned.
"Why?"
Vaelra blocked again.
"Because there is no other formation behind it."
Elyra looked behind her.
If that line fell, the enemies would reach the interior of the mountain range directly.
"Then we need to hold them here."
"Yes."
The Medusas advanced again, not because they had the advantage, but because there was nowhere else to go.
The battle became even more brutal as the warriors began fighting side by side.
One wounded Medusa held her sword with only one hand.
Another, with blood flowing down her face, fired arrows.
A third used her eyes to petrify the approaching enemies.
The Beastmen continued advancing.
Their claws tore through flesh, and their blows shattered bones.
Swords pierced bodies.
The Medusas responded with speed, flexibility, petrification, arrows, and spiritual energy.
The battlefield seemed like a machine that transformed lives into corpses.
Then Zarek managed to strike Vaelra.
BOOM!
The weapon hit her defense.
Vaelra was thrown backward, her body crashing through a rocky formation.
CRASH!
She fell onto the rubble, blood flowing from her mouth.
Elyra’s eyes widened.
"Elder!"
Zarek advanced.
"Now!"
Elyra stepped in front.
CLANG!
She blocked the powerful attack.
The impact made her arms tremble.
Zarek attacked again.
Elyra dodged.
The weapon passed by her face. She responded with a slash at the same instant, forcing Zarek to retreat.
But before he could counterattack, Vaelra appeared again.
Her beautiful face was covered in blood.
"I’m still not dead."
Zarek looked at her.
"You’re already seriously injured."
Vaelra tightened her grip on her sword.
