Chapter 27: Chapter 28: An Identity That Shocks Everyone

Li Yang and Ha Er quickly followed them to a private room.

But just as they got there, someone blocked them from entering.

"Sirs, you can’t go in," the waiter said, still quite polite.

"Why not?" Zhao Kang was stunned. "I made a reservation."

"And what’s your name, sir?" the waiter asked.

"Zhao Kang!"

"I’m sorry, you don’t have a reservation!" the waiter said politely. "Perhaps you have the wrong room?"

Zhao Kang looked embarrassed. After a moment, he said, "Um... do you have any other tables available?"

"I’m afraid not, we’re fully booked. Maybe you could make a reservation in advance next time?" The waiter maintained his smile.

’This guy probably failed to get a reservation but couldn’t lose face in front of Liu Qian,’ Li Yang realized, ’so he figured he’d just show up and try to wing it.’

After a moment’s thought, Li Yang sent a text message to Han Qiuyue.

"Did you make a mistake?" Liu Qian said, annoyed. She turned to the waiter. "If he said he made a reservation, then he made one. Check again."

The others all nodded in agreement.

The waiter was getting annoyed too. ’What is this? I’ve already been polite, and they still refuse to take the hint.’

The waiter was about to say something, but a message came through just then.

After a glance, the waiter immediately said to them, "My apologies, it seems I was mistaken. Please, come in!"

Zhao Kang’s face lit up with a smug expression. "See? I told you I could get a table here. Come on, everyone, don’t be shy, let’s go in!"

The others all flooded into the room.

"Look at that..." Ha Er clapped Li Yang on the shoulder, his face full of envy. "Talk about connections..."

’This is hilarious,’ Li Yang thought. ’I’m the one who texted Manager Han.’

"Wow, the food here is so expensive!" They looked at the menu and realized the dishes were exceptionally pricey.

"It’s fine, Zhao Kang’s treating!" Liu Qian puffed out her chest, her eyes filled with pride.

"That’s right, that’s right! Order whatever you want!" Zhao Kang said with a smile.

The food was ordered quickly.

"Li Yang, this must be the third time we’ve seen each other recently," Liu Qian said, looking at Li Yang with a malicious glint in her eye.

Li Yang nodded. "That’s right, the third time."

"And who is this?" Zhao Kang asked, looking at Li Yang.

"Li Yang. He was our high school classmate, but he didn’t go to college after graduation. Said his family was too poor to afford it, right? Oh, and I heard someone beat him stupid later on. No idea what happened, but are you all better now?" Liu Qian asked sarcastically.

The others chuckled.

Li Yang had actually tested into a decent university after the college entrance exams, but the tuition was too much. He’d hidden it from Ye Xiu and decided not to go.

Ye Xiu had scolded him for it countless times.

But what was done was done.

Li Yang knew Ye Xiu couldn’t possibly afford it. A few more years of university would have driven her to her grave.

"Just a high school grad, huh!" Zhao Kang laughed. "What are you doing now? By the way, my family owns a small department store. If you’re interested, you could come work as a salesman. It’s three thousand a month, room and board included. Work hard, and you might even become a store manager someday."

The others laughed along with him.

He Hui frowned.

"Not interested!" Li Yang said, growing annoyed.

’The main reason I came here today was to clear things up with He Hui. I didn’t expect to become their punching bag.’

The feeling was incredibly unpleasant.

"He Hui, come outside. I need to talk to you for a minute!" Li Yang paused for a moment, deciding there was no reason to stay any longer. He just needed to clear the air with He Hui and leave.

"Li Yang, are you deaf or just stupid?" Liu Qian snapped. "I’m telling you, stop stalking us! It’s never going to happen between you and He Hui."

"I’m not stalking you!" Li Yang flared up.

WHOOSH!

The classmates in the room were all shocked.

"I can’t believe Li Yang is so shameless, stalking his own classmate!"

"I know, right? People can be so malicious!"

"A beast in human clothing!"

Everyone started whispering among themselves.

"Don’t think I don’t know what you’re up to!" With so many classmates backing her up, providing her with a supportive audience, Liu Qian grew even more smug. "You’ve seen what a mess you’ve become, and you saw that He Hui and I got into a good company, so now you want to get back together with her, right? Well, I’m telling you, don’t even dream of it."

Li Yang slammed his hand on the table. "What nonsense are you spouting? Me being there was a coincidence. I wasn’t trying to follow He Hui at all."

"If you weren’t following He Hui, then were you following me?" Liu Qian froze, then, as if she’d made a great discovery, she pointed at Li Yang and said, "You scumbag! Are you trying to make a move on me?"

"Kid, you’re asking for it." Zhao Kang slammed the table and pointed at Li Yang. "How dare you stalk Qianqian."

Li Yang was so angry he had to laugh. ’What kind of twisted logic is that?’

Just then, the door creaked open, and Han Qiuyue walked in. "Are you all enjoying your meal?"

"Manager Han!" Zhao Kang was pleasantly surprised. He quickly stood up and shook Han Qiuyue’s hand. "I didn’t expect you to come in person, Manager Han. You’re too kind. The food hasn’t arrived yet, but I’m sure it will be delicious."

Everyone looked on with envy.

This Zhao Kang was only a year or two older than them, yet he already had such connections.

Liu Qian was incredibly proud.

But Han Qiuyue just stared blankly for a second.

"Sister Han!" Li Yang walked over. "I’m done here. I’ve lost my appetite."

"Huh?" Han Qiuyue was taken aback. She sensed the strange atmosphere in the room. Although she didn’t know exactly what had happened, she could guess the gist of it. She smiled and said, "Little brother, you came all the way to my place, how can you not eat? Come on, let’s go eat in my office."

With that, Han Qiuyue gave the others an apologetic smile, took Li Yang by the arm, and walked out.

What!

Everyone was dumbfounded.

Li Yang and the manager here called each other "sister" and "brother," and she was so polite to him?

They were all stunned.

For a moment, the room fell completely silent.

Just then, a waiter came in with some dishes.

"Hey, let me ask you something. Who was that guy who just left?" Zhao Kang couldn’t stand it.

’I’m supposed to be the center of attention. How dare some kid steal my spotlight?’

"Li Yang?" As it happened, it was the same waiter from the day Li Yang first came in to discuss business. Recalling that day, the waiter smiled and said, "He’s one of our suppliers. Oh, and by the way, he’s the one who asked our manager for this room just now."

What!

Everyone was even more shocked.

"Didn’t you say you’re the one who made the reservation?" Liu Qian felt like she had been completely fooled.

"Him?" The waiter chuckled and shook his head. "This room was originally reserved by someone else. Our Manager Han only gave it up out of respect for Boss Li."

"What are you talking about!" Zhao Kang slammed the table. "He’s just a vegetable seller, a little farmer!"

"Right, right!" the others nodded. "That’s right! What’s this ’supplier’ nonsense? He’s just a little farmer selling vegetables. No need to make him sound so important."
