The first rays of dawn illuminated a vast battlefield scattered with the smoking remains of enemy war machines.

High above the Crystal Forest, the massive spatial fracture had finally collapsed into nothingness. The surviving hostile warships had retreated beyond the frontier’s edge, leaving behind drifting debris and a stillness that felt almost unreal after hours of relentless orbital bombardment.

For several tense minutes, nobody in the command center dared celebrate.

Then, the planetary defense network chimed, confirming the final tracking sweep across the quadrant.

"Enemy forces have fully withdrawn beyond our detection range!" an officer announced, his voice booming through the speakers. "All major planetary energy junctions remain fully operational, civilian casualties are minimal, and the capital’s primary defensive perimeter is intact!"

A loud, unified cheer erupted across the command room as officers threw their caps into the air.

Outside the fortress walls, the joyful news spread like wildfire through the crowds.

People poured into the streets of Frontier City, cheering and laughing in the cool morning air. Tired soldiers embraced their comrades, researchers abandoned their monitors to witness the restored crystal canopy under the sun, and subterranean warriors raised their spears in triumph.

Above the city spires, thousands of crystalline-winged Zerg circled gracefully beneath the morning light.

For the first time in history, humans and Zerg stood together, celebrating the same hard-won victory.

Rhaevia stood on a high stone balcony overlooking the sprawling city, watching golden light ripple through the forest canopy beyond.

Her body throbbed with deep exhaustion, and a faint, dull ache behind her eyes reminded her just how much Sovereign energy she had expended countering the enemy’s mental interference.

Yet, despite her heavy limbs, she couldn’t bring herself to step inside and rest.

They had actually survived.

It wasn’t because the Imperial Family had dispatched a reinforcement fleet to save them. It wasn’t because some distant galactic authority had recognized their worth.

They had survived simply because the diverse people of this frontier world had chosen to stand side by side and fight.

A pair of footsteps approached from behind, breaking her train of thought. Raevor stepped onto the balcony, his military uniform streaked with dark ash and scorched metal from the orbital battery deck.

"You should be resting," he said, his deep voice carrying a gentle rasp.

Rhaevia turned her head slightly, offering a smirk. "You first, General."

"I have already submitted the preliminary battle logs to the fleet," he replied, leaning his broad frame against the stone railing beside her.

"And I have already finished stabilizing the planetary root network," she countered smoothly.

Raevor looked down at her, his jaw setting into a stubborn line. "Neither accomplishment changes the undeniable fact that you need sleep."

A soft laugh escaped her lips. "Neither does telling me repeatedly, Raevor."

His expression held for a moment longer before giving way, his silver eyes softening with undeniable warmth.

Through their 100% Guide-Sentinel resonance, she could feel the deep tide of relief washing over him beneath his usual stoic discipline. He had watched the enemy’s dark energy press directly against her mind from orbit, helpless to bridge the physical distance and shield her.

Rhaevia reached out, gently touching his gloved hand resting on the balustrade.

"I’m right here," she murmured softly.

Raevor turned his hand over, his long fingers closing tightly around hers.

"I know," he replied, his thumb tracing the back of her palm.

They stood together in comfortable silence as the noise of the victory parade grew louder in the streets below.

After a long moment, Rhaevia turned her body to face the city, her gaze sharpening as she looked toward the horizon.

"We need to make a decision, Raevor," she said.

He followed her gaze over the crowded avenues. "About our enemy?"

"About us," she corrected gently.

She gestured toward the bustling streets, the crystal forest, and the distant mountain ranges sheltering the underground civilization.

"This territory cannot remain an unofficial, floating settlement forever," she explained, her voice turning firm. "The Imperial court may acknowledge our defensive success today, but that does not mean they will tolerate our independence tomorrow."

"Especially after witnessing our combined military strength yesterday," Raevor agreed, his tone darkening.

"Exactly," she said, her dark eyes flashing with determination. "If we remain under standard Imperial jurisdiction, some Duke or minister will eventually decide that the planetary network, the Zerg swarms, and the ruins belong to the Crown."

Raevor looked at her closely. "And you have no intention of permitting that."

"None at all," she answered without hesitation.

Rhaevia had already spent an entire previous life sacrificing her youth, blood, and freedom for a broken society that demanded everything while giving nothing in return. She had no desire to build the same cage under a different flag.

"I want to formally establish an independent, permanent frontier territory," she declared, looking him dead in the eye. "Free from Imperial military control, governed fairly by representatives of the actual people who bled to build it."

Raevor studied her intense expression for a moment.

"An independent settlement of this scale will draw massive political opposition from the High Houses," he pointed out practical realities.

"Then we will face them," she said simply.

"The Emperor may even classify this action as open defiance," he added, watching her reaction.

Rhaevia offered a cold smile. "Let them try."

She turned back to face the rising dawn, her golden energy flickering subtly around her shoulders.

"This world isn’t a prize to be claimed by whoever brings the largest fleet," she stated firmly. "It’s a home we chose to create together."

Raevor’s hand tightened firmly around hers, his decision made without a single second of doubt.

"Then I’ll stand beside you," he pledged, his deep voice carrying the unshakeable weight of a Major General.

Rhaevia looked up at him, genuine warmth melting the icy steel in her face.

"Even if the entire Imperial Military objects?" she asked softly.

"Especially then," he answered smoothly.

Before she could speak another word, the sharp chime of an incoming high-priority transmission echoed from the doorway.

An aide-de-camp hurried onto the balcony, holding a holographic tablet in his trembling hands.

"My Sovereign Guide, General Veyr!" the officer called out, bowing hastily. "We have an unexpected orbital arrival!"

Rhaevia released Raevor’s hand and stepped forward to inspect the glowing tablet display.

Three massive, armored vessels had just cleared the frontier’s outer sensor line. Their weapons systems were powered down, and each ship was broadcasting a formal diplomatic identification pulse.

"Point of origin?" Raevor asked, his eyes narrowing into slits.

"Three sovereign neighboring star systems beyond the formal Imperial boundary, sir," the officer read rapidly. "Their diplomatic envoys are requesting immediate clearance to enter our atmosphere."

"What is their stated business here?" Rhaevia inquired, zooming in on the ship schematics.

The officer swallowed hard, checking the text feed. "They are formally requesting an audience with you personally, Lady Rhaevia."

The tablet screen refreshed, flashing three consecutive high-level diplomatic headers across the glass.

[REQUEST FOR PERMANENT MILITARY PROTECTION.]

[REQUEST FOR A NON-AGGRESSION MUTUAL ALLIANCE.]

[REQUEST FOR FORMAL RECOGNITION UNDER THE SOVEREIGN GUIDE’S AUTHORITY.]

Rhaevia’s casual expression vanished, replaced by a deep, calculating gravity.

The echoes of their first battle had barely faded from the sky, yet word of their defense had already crossed the light-years to neighboring worlds.

The young officer hesitated, holding his breath before delivering the final line of the report.

"All three planetary delegations have appended the same official statement to their landing requests, my lady," he added.

Rhaevia looked up from the tablet. "What statement?"

The officer bowed his head deeply in respect.

"They wish to officially place their star systems under your personal sovereignty."

For a brief moment, the joyous noise of the morning celebration down in the streets seemed to fade into silence.

Rhaevia stared out at the clouds where the three diplomatic starships were descending toward the landing docks.

She had simply set out to build a quiet home where she could live on her own terms.

It appeared the galaxy, however, was already demanding that she build a kingdom.
