The Trash Guide Awakens: The Youngest General's Hidden Wife
Chapter 132: The Origin Core Awakens
Morning sunlight streamed through the crystalline walls of the laboratory, illuminating the enormous golden structure suspended at its center. The floating core pulsed with a rhythmic resonance that echoed through the vast chamber.
Rhaevia had barely slept since the previous night. After the Third Sovereign’s unexpected transmission, she and Raevor had returned to the fortress with the Origin Core’s projected coordinates securely recorded in their databases.
The research team had been instructed to prepare the laboratory for analysis, while Project Genesis worked through the massive volume of information recovered during the core’s initial awakening.
Now, standing before the floating structure, Rhaevia watched the golden symbols rotate slowly around its central axis.
“Status report,” she ordered, her voice cutting through the noise.
A holographic display materialized beside her in response.
[ORIGIN CORE: ACTIVE.]
[ANCIENT ARCHIVE ACCESS: PARTIALLY RESTORED.]
[COSMIC CARTOGRAPHY DATABASE: UNLOCKED.]
[WARNING: DATA EXCEEDS MODERN ASTRONOMICAL RECORDS.]
Rhaevia’s eyes narrowed as she scanned the system notices. “Display the complete map.”
The Origin Core responded immediately to her Sovereign signature. Golden light surged through the laboratory, expanding into a colossal three-dimensional projection that filled the entire chamber from floor to ceiling.
Star systems appeared first, followed by vast spiraling structures of galaxies, clusters, and complex interstellar pathways.
Countless points of light connected through luminous routes, some extending across distances so enormous that the scale overwhelmed the laboratory’s standard visualization systems.
Raevor stepped beside her, his boots muffled against the floor. His silver eyes moved deliberately across the sprawling projection.
“These aren’t merely unexplored star systems,” he observed, his voice low and analytical.
“No,” Rhaevia murmured, watching the light dance across his features.
She lifted her hand, expanding one of the outer regions with a subtle flick of her wrist. The projection responded instantly, separating the galactic clusters into distinct layers of navigational data.
There were entire galaxies beyond the official borders of the known Imperial universe. Whole civilizations had apparently existed in regions absent from every modern astronomical database.
Some routes crossed intergalactic voids that contemporary human technology could not hope to traverse, while others passed through spatial corridors that appeared to bypass conventional distance entirely.
Rhaevia felt a sudden chill travel down her spine as the true scale of the display settled over her.
Their prior civilization had not merely explored farther than modern humanity. It had possessed an understanding of the universe that modern science had barely begun to imagine.
“How old is this map?” Raevor asked, turning his head slightly toward her.
“Project Genesis is still calculating the archive’s temporal markers,” she replied, gesturing toward the secondary interface.
She watched as the system automated a comparison between the stellar configurations and the standard astronomical records of the Empire.
[TEMPORAL ANALYSIS: IN PROGRESS.]
[ARCHIVE ORIGIN: ANCIENT SOVEREIGN ERA.]
[ESTIMATED AGE: UNRESOLVED.]
[SPATIAL ROUTE NETWORK: PARTIALLY FUNCTIONAL.]
Another display appeared nearby, identifying several regions as previously visited territories. Others were explicitly marked as research zones, protected civilizations, or restricted military sectors.
Rhaevia’s expression grew increasingly serious as she isolated a specific quadrant. “Look at this.”
She highlighted a dense cluster lying just beyond the outermost mapped galaxies. Unlike the surrounding regions, its pathways were not simply incomplete due to age. Entire sections had been deliberately obscured behind dense, multi-layered authorization protocols.
Someone had artificially restricted access to those coordinates long ago. Or perhaps something had forced them to.
Raevor studied the dark void in the center of the display. “Could the information have been lost during the collapse of the prior civilization?”
“Some of it, perhaps,” Rhaevia answered, stepping closer to the light. “But this isn’t natural data degradation.”
She traced a finger along the defined, artificial edge of the obscured region. “These records were sealed intentionally. Someone decided that certain parts of the universe should disappear from history entirely.”
Raevor kept his gaze on the darkened cluster. “Your past self?”
“I don’t know,” she admitted.
The answer frustrated her far more than she wanted to show. She had once been the creator of Project Genesis, the architect of the preservation systems that had carried Sovereign continuity through civilization-ending catastrophes.
Yet even with her memories gradually returning, enormous portions of her former existence remained entirely inaccessible.
How many critical decisions had she made that her present self could no longer remember? And how many dangerous secrets had she deliberately buried beneath layers of encryption?
The Origin Core suddenly pulsed with a deeper frequency.
The projection shifted automatically, displaying a series of visual recordings embedded directly within the cartography data. Fleets of unfamiliar vessels crossed the darkness between distant galaxies.
Enormous artificial structures floated near radiant stellar formations, their distinct geometries closely resembling the technology of the dead star fortress and the Sovereign City buried beneath the planet. Rhaevia stared at the images in fascination.
“They traveled far beyond the boundaries of our known universe,” she whispered, the light reflecting in her eyes. “They built research facilities in places we don’t even know exist.”
Raevor’s expression hardened as he considered the military implications of the footage. “If those technologies survived somewhere out there, then the balance of power across the galaxy may be far more fragile than we believed.”
“Especially if the Third Sovereign still has access to them,” Rhaevia added gravely.
The name hung in the silent laboratory.
Rhaevia returned her attention to the outer regions of the projection, forcing her mind back to the present data. The Origin Core had begun highlighting several distinct clusters, identifying their precise coordinates alongside the faint remnants of ancient spatial pathways.
She instructed Project Genesis to isolate the regions containing the highest concentration of Sovereign-era structures. One by one, the marked territories illuminated in gold.
Then the visualization system abruptly stopped its scan.
A distant region at the edge of the projection darkened rapidly, swallowing the golden pathways around it like an expanding shadow. A distinct symbol emerged from the blackness: a central star surrounded by three curved crescents pointing inward toward a vertical line.
Rhaevia went completely still.
She recognized that emblem immediately. It had appeared carved into the raiders’ energy weapons, stamped upon the hull of the hostile flagship that had attacked the Crystal Forest, and buried within the encrypted records recovered from the laboratory.
It was the Third Sovereign’s personal mark.
[ANOMALOUS TERRITORY DETECTED.]
[ANCIENT AUTHORITY SIGNATURE: CONFIRMED.]
[REGIONAL IDENTIFICATION: SEALED.]
A final system warning flashed in red across the primary display.
[THIRD SOVEREIGN SIGNATURE DETECTED WITHIN THE UNKNOWN GALACTIC REGION.]
Raevor moved closer to her side, his Sentinel aura flaring slightly as his voice dropped into a dangerous calm. “Rhaevia. What exactly did your ancient civilization discover out there?”
She stared at the floating emblem, her golden resonance stirring restlessly beneath her skin.
For the first time since her awakening, she wondered whether the prior civilization had explored those distant galaxies to expand its reach, or if they had gone there to contain something terrifying they had discovered.
Something inherently connected to the Third Sovereign. Something that might still be waiting for them in the dark.
