The Trash Guide Awakens: The Youngest General's Hidden Wife
Chapter 78: She Had Met Him Before
Rhaevia could not breathe as the ancient vision locked into place around her. The vast, magnificent palace stretched endlessly in every direction, its obsidian spires floating weightlessly within a sea of burning stars.
Thousands of ancient Zerg warriors remained kneeling in absolute silence across the celestial hall. Their dark armor reflected the cosmic light, but they didn’t dare raise their heads.
Yet Rhaevia barely noticed the terrifying army surrounding her. Her entire attention was fixed on the man standing on the raised platform before the dark throne.
The True King.
He looked nothing like the monstrous, misshapen creature she had imagined from the broken fragments of her memories. There were no grotesque appendages, no dripping chitin, and no blind, feral rage.
He appeared almost entirely human.
He was tall and elegant, carrying an air of ancient authority that made the room feel small. His dark hair flowed over his shoulders, reflecting faint silver threads beneath the cosmic light of the hall.
His eyes carried a profound, bottomless depth that made the surrounding galaxies seem insignificant. Those glowing, ancient eyes were looking directly at her.
Not at the ancient Zerg Sovereign standing beside him.
Not at some forgotten ghost of her past.
He was looking directly at her, at Rhaevia.
Rhaevia’s heart pounded violently against her ribs, her Guide core trembling beneath his gaze.
I know him, the realization struck her mind with terrifying, absolute certainty.
She knew him not from this current life in the interstellar era, and not even from her desperate, blood-soaked days on Earth. She knew him from somewhere far, far older, buried beneath the dust of forgotten centuries.
The memory suddenly fractured and shifted.
The celestial palace vanished into thin air, replaced by an ancient, shattered battlefield beneath a bruised violet sky.
Her physical body was different in this scene. She wore the ornate black-and-silver Sovereign armor she had glimpsed in earlier visions, a crimson mantle flowing behind her shoulders.
An ancient, glowing crown rested upon her long silver hair. She stood on the ash-covered ground directly facing the same man. The True King wasn’t smiling now. His dark features were drawn, set in a mask of grim solemnity.
"You shouldn’t have come here," Rhaevia heard her own voice say.
Her ancient voice sounded remarkably calm, ringing out with cold, absolute confidence. It was the voice of a ruler who commanded the stars, familiar yet strangely distant.
The King walked toward her across the burning earth, his boots crushing the ash.
"I could say the same to you," he replied, his deep voice vibrating through the air.
She raised her gloved hand in a swift, commanding gesture.
Thousands of ancient Zerg warriors immediately surged forward behind her, their terrifying forms rising from the shadows to answer her call.
The King did the same, sweeping his arm outward. An entire galactic army answered his silent biological command, lining up across the desolate ridge.
Rhaevia stared across the narrow expanse of the battlefield, her eyes locked onto his.
"So this is how it ends?" she asked softly.
"No," his answer came immediately, resolute and unyielding. "It is how this cycle begins."
The memory fractured again, shattering like brittle glass. Another scene violently replaced it. A burning, futuristic city collapsed around them while ancient Zerg creatures tore through the crumbling streets.
The King materialized directly before her in the falling rubble. Rhaevia attacked him without hesitation, her blade whistling through the air. He raised his own weapon and blocked her strike, the kinetic impact sending shockwaves through the street.
Their opposing energies collided violently, cracking the sky above the burning city. The vision dissolved into another memory. She was standing inside a vast celestial throne room once more.
Rhaevia stood before him, her silver armor stained with dark blood. This time, neither of their colossal armies was present in the hall.
"You cannot keep doing this," she said, her voice laced with bone-weary exhaustion.
The King looked at her with an expression she couldn’t fully comprehend, a mixture of desperate love and profound sorrow.
"I am not the one continuing it," he murmured.
Rhaevia frowned, stepping closer to the raised dais.
"Then who is?" she demanded.
The memory dissolved into blinding white light before he could offer an answer.
She gasped aloud, her physical lungs fighting for air.
The vision shifted rapidly yet again, taking her to another era.
Another lifetime. Another battlefield. Another version of herself.
In this vision, she was much younger and human, wearing primitive leather armor. Yet her sharp, determined eyes were unmistakably her own.
She was standing directly beside the King beneath an unfamiliar, jagged moon. They weren’t fighting each other in this life. They were standing shoulder-to-shoulder, fighting together against a sky full of shadows.
Rhaevia’s modern mind reeled under the sheer weight of the revelations.
How many times have we met? she wondered, her thoughts spinning out of control.
The images began to accelerate, flashing past her eyes at dizzying speeds.
A majestic interstellar civilization burning into ash. A world drowning in a sea of crimson energy. A vast, terrifying Zerg fleet blotching out the stars. An ancient Sovereign throne sitting empty in a desolate palace. A bloody battlefield stretched across the cosmos.
Her own face appeared again and again across different historical eras, wearing different clothes and bearing different titles.
Sometimes she fought against the King with ruthless intent. Sometimes she stood beside him as an equal. Sometimes she appeared to be running from him across distant star systems. And sometimes, she was using her own body to protect him from unseen strikes.
Rhaevia’s physical breathing became increasingly uneven as the truth crashed down upon her.
"These weren’t random, separate lives..." she gasped, the realization escaping her trembling lips. "They were all connected."
The ancient Sovereign Consciousness inside her mental network remained silent. For once, even that ancient entity seemed unwilling to interrupt the weight of her awakening.
Rhaevia finally understood the horrifying truth that terrified her most. Her desperate, tragic life on Earth had never been an isolated event.
The apocalypse she had survived might have been nothing more than a single battlefield in a cosmic war that had existed long before humanity ever knew the stars belonged to more than them.
Her reincarnations weren’t separate, unconnected stories. They were Chapters of a single, massive saga. It was one continuous, brutal war repeated across countless lifetimes. And somehow, through every cycle and every era, she and the True King had always stood at its absolute center.
A final, crystal-clear memory emerged from the darkness.
Rhaevia stood completely alone beneath an enormous, glowing celestial tree whose branches stretched into the atmosphere.
The King approached her from behind, his footsteps soundless on the luminescent grass.
She turned around to face him, her ancient expression worn and deeply exhausted.
"How many times have we done this?" she asked softly.
He stopped several steps away from her, his posture tall, yet burdened.
"Enough," he answered.
"Then why are you still here?" she pressed, searching his face.
His ancient eyes softened with an overwhelming warmth.
"Because you always return," he said simply.
Rhaevia’s ancient self looked away toward the horizon, unable to meet his gaze.
"I don’t remember you," she whispered into the wind.
The King offered her a sad, gentle smile.
"I know," he replied.
The memory began to tremble violently as the vision reached its end. The celestial tree and the starry sky began collapsing around them in shards of light. Rhaevia reached her hand out toward him impulsively.
"Wait!" she called out.
The King remained perfectly still as the world dissolved around his frame. His expression changed slightly, something painfully familiar appearing in his dark eyes.
It was deep recognition, intense affection, and an ancient, unbearable sorrow. He took a single step closer to her through the falling light.
Rhaevia’s heart hammered frantically as his face became clearer than it had ever been. She had seen that face in her recurring nightmares. She had seen those eyes across a hundred different battlefields.
She had seen him standing in the smoke behind the Zombie King. She had fought him, protected him, and perhaps, in some forgotten lifetime, even trusted him completely.
And then, the King leaned toward her as the memory shattered. His voice echoed directly through her mind, carrying over the roar of the collapsing vision. It was soft, incredibly familiar, and almost painfully gentle.
"You have forgotten me again, my Sovereign," he whispered into the void.
