Chapter 1171: Chapter 1198: Starting Early (1)

The night was deep.

It was drizzling from the sky, and though it was cold outside, the shop was bustling with lively chaos, causing a layer of mist to gather on the floor-to-ceiling windows, obscuring the reflections of moving figures.

Windsor Myres sat staring at the mess on the table after having eaten her fill.

She had been drinking a lot lately and eating very little, today being no exception.

Camden River’s words really pissed her off; she hadn’t eaten much in the afternoon, but by night, she suddenly craved hot pot.

Ali Harris stuck by her side the whole time, tirelessly and without complaint.

Windsor Myres picked up the drink on the table and took a sip, squinting at Ali Harris, who was wiping his mouth across from her, and said blandly, "Stop wearing glasses from now on, they look bloody awful!"

Ali Harris was moderately nearsighted and usually wore black-framed glasses. The steam from the hot pot easily fogged up his lenses, so he naturally took them off while eating. His deep eye sockets and square face actually looked much more pleasing without them.

"Alright."

Ali Harris quickly agreed with a smile.

He wasn’t bad looking, about average or slightly above among his peers, and not short, nearly six feet tall. But compared to his roommate Camden River, whose aura was extraordinary, he naturally seemed like a nobody.

However, guys are far less bothered about their appearance than girls.

His feelings toward Camden River were more jealousy than insecurity, and after all, pursuing Windsor Myres never relied on his looks, but rather his persistence.

Didn’t it already start to show results?

Okay.

He actually understood that in Windsor Myres’s eyes, he was less than insignificant.

The reason Windsor Myres allowed him to stay by her side was largely due to her own psychological needs. She had known many men in the past, and many wanted to be at her feet. But most of those men were prominent figures, none of whom could match Ali Harris’s level of endurance – never talking back when insulted, never retaliating when hit, always there when called, never leaving when dismissed, like a dog, willingly playing the role of a submissive.

In their relationship, she was the queen, the master, the lady patroness, able to command with impunity.

It was naturally a completely different scenario from being with Camden River.

Ali Harris could fill her void, absorb her grievances, and satisfy her desire for dominance.

Secondly, he could provoke Camden River.

Many women made the mistake of using other men to provoke the one they actually cared about, to make him angry, believing that his anger, humiliation, or jealousy translated into some sort of gratification for themselves.

Camden River was indifferent; fine, there was always someone eager to shower Windsor Myres with a hundred times more passion and care. She used Ali Harris to provoke Camden River while using him to satisfy her psychological needs, seemingly winning in every way.

But in truth—

It seemed she had already lost.

No man in this world enjoys wearing the proverbial green hat.

A woman’s loyalty is often the last line of defense for many men in relationships.

Not to mention Camden River, who valued his pride and had little experience in relationships, appearing calm and exceptional yet lacking maturity in this domain.

Her past was such, and he had always been quite concerned about it.

And now—

How could he possibly face such a blow?

He couldn’t accept it, yet had to disguise himself with calm and indifference, while in reality, his psychological defenses had already completely collapsed.

No principles.

He proposed to Tong Tong in such circumstances as an extreme display of collapse, an instinctive escape.

He sought safety, needed loyalty and admiration from a woman, required a haven, needed warmth and tranquility for healing, so he chose Tong Tong during his struggle to balance.
