Chapter 1565 - 1548: WeChat Payment Is a Problem_3

The girl felt uneasy inside, her acquaintance with Marcus Quinn was too brief, and her understanding of men was too little. Even though she had been engaged to Caspian Yarn since childhood, Caspian was a gentleman, and they were four years apart in age. So, after she became an adult, Caspian went abroad for studies; when she went abroad, Caspian had already returned to take over the family business. They didn’t spend much time together, and she hadn’t officially dated anyone.

Fortunately, she was still undocumented, and couldn’t get married just yet, so Ada Chase felt a subtle sense of relief.

The summer sun was harsh; the bedding and sheets were only dried for half an hour before Marcus collected them and replaced everything with new ones, discarding the old ones. Seeing the room looking refreshed, he nodded contentedly. With Ada’s delicate skin, sleeping on new sheets and bedding wouldn’t be uncomfortable anymore.

After handling those tasks, Marcus noticed Ada’s complexion improved, and since it was still early, he took his toolbox and went out again. Selling thirty pounds of pig trotters before bedtime was manageable, not affecting his schedule. During the day, the man preferred to work, utilizing his robust strength in manual labor.

Seeing him about to leave, Ada asked him to buy Vaseline. Once Marcus left, she touched the brand new bedding beneath her, feeling delighted. Although Marcus’s purchase wasn’t quite as luxurious as what she used to have at the Chase Family, Ada could tell it was much better than the previous sheets. The old bedding wasn’t high-quality cotton, and having been used for so long, washed pale, they had started to irritate her skin.

She hadn’t expected Marcus to go out and buy new bedding.

Ada sat at home in a daze for a while, laughed a little, then her eyes reddened, wanting to tell her father she wasn’t suffering at all now.

Marcus returned at dusk, following his routine of taking a shower, then cooking.

After dinner, Ada noticed he brought back Vaseline, and some other household medications, hesitated slightly, noticing the man busily working in the kitchen. Throughout these days, he never let her do any housework, taking care of everything himself, even washing her clothes while she was asleep. Saying her heart wasn’t moved would be impossible.

When Marcus finished, Ada finally gathered courage and called, "Marcus."

The man wiped his clean hands dry and came in, looking at the exquisite and pretty girl sitting on the sofa, answered in a deep voice, then approached, asking softly, "What’s up?"

"Let me see your hands," Ada said softly, lowering her little face.

The man followed her instructions and reached out his hand, watching as she took the Vaseline and gently rubbed it on his rough palm, helping him apply the ointment with her head lowered.

Marcus’s body trembled slightly, feeling tingly where her hands held his. The girl’s movements were gentle; she meticulously applied Vaseline to one hand and then switched to the other without saying a word.

"You should apply the ointment every day after coming home," Ada said softly. His hands were not only rough but also had small cuts, caused by manual labor.

The man’s usually sharp eyes flickered with a hint of tenderness and softly responded.

After applying ointment on Marcus, Ada felt a bit uneasy, sensing his gaze seemed constantly fixed on her. But when she looked, he wasn’t watching her at all. Nonetheless, the feeling of being watched with intense eyes was something she could feel.

Ada’s heart was somewhat chaotic, going to bed early, thinking thankfully Marcus wouldn’t be home during the day.

The next day Marcus followed his routine, finished the housework, then took thirty pounds of pig trotters to Qingfeng Restaurant. There was an issue during the transaction; the other party preferred using WeChat for payment, as going to the next-door bank for cash and keeping accounts was rather cumbersome.

Marcus thought about it; now transactions were mostly electronic, but as he had no phone or bank card, he always received cash. In past dealings, this situation occurred too, where some funds couldn’t be collected.

"Wait a moment," the man said in a deep voice, borrowing a phone to make a call.

"Marcus?" The call was answered, and the person on the other end excitedly shouted, "Bro, you finally called, you’ve been missing for years; we’re all about to hold a reunion just for you."

Marcus couldn’t help but smile slightly and calmly said, "There’s something I need your help with."

"Bro, your problems are mine, I’ll tackle any challenge for you, even if it means facing fire and brimstone."
