the two-faced Adopted Girl Who Melted CEO's Ice-Cold Heart
Chapter 1566 - 1549: The Most Lucrative Summer Job
Marcus Quinn relayed Adan’s basic information and requested a full set of documents. Upon hearing this, the other person was bewildered and asked, "Is this your wife? How did she become undocumented? By the way, why don’t you use your previous identity? You’re also considered a missing person now, you know that after a few years, you’ll be undocumented too, right?"
Marcus Quinn’s expression revealed a hint of sternness, but thinking of Adan softened him a bit as he said, "Yes, she is my wife. Do not investigate her previous identity, just prepare a full set of documents. For her address, write my grandfather’s ancestral home."
"Alright, alright, where should I send the documents? I’ll first arrange a bank card for your wife, that’s quick. You can go directly to the bank to get the card. Which bank card should I get?" Upon hearing this, the other person was completely shocked to discover that Marcus Quinn, who had been a bachelor for a millennium, had not only disappeared but also secretly found a wife.
Marcus Quinn hung up the phone and went to the nearest bank next door. After waiting for about ten minutes, the staff respectfully presented the bank card to him with all the information for Adan. It wasn’t done using an ID card; the bank manager looked him up and down, noticing his tall frame and the fact he was carrying a toolbox.
It seems every year is full of strange occurrences, but this year seems especially so. The bank manager received a call from the head office instructing him to receive this distinguished guest, yet they hadn’t mentioned that the guest would be dressed simply—well, to be honest, dressed like a rough handyman. To draw the attention of the head office, someone normally would have several cards.
The bank manager couldn’t quite comprehend the situation but dared not underestimate Marcus Quinn, and thus respectfully escorted him out of the bank.
Marcus Quinn obtained Adan’s bank card and instructed the establishment in Qingfeng Building to directly transfer funds to this card. Then, carrying his toolbox, he continued his day of odd jobs. It’s summer, and air conditioning is essential; they run nonstop morning and night, naturally leading to breakdowns.
Thus, fixing air conditioners is a popular and profitable job. Recently, Marcus Quinn has mostly been working on installing and repairing air conditioners, with each air conditioning repair generating a net $150 after costs and commissions. However, this is truly labor-intensive work; working at heights, navigating ropes, and performing tasks in the air is dangerous, not to mention being exposed to the sun and sweating profusely. While others might repair at most ten units a day, Marcus Quinn could handle 15-20 units a day. He usually completes each job within ten minutes and then moves on to the next one. His speed and skill have earned him lots of praise and many five-star reviews.
Marcus Quinn stopped accepting jobs after repairing 20 units, and seeing the sun was about to set, he hurried back home to cook for Adan.
On the third day of her menstrual cycle, Adan no longer felt much pain in her stomach. She diligently cleaned the house inside and out, polished the floors, and counted the remaining money she had. Alongside the 800 yuan she earned from selling her paintings, she had gained more than 4,000 yuan in the past couple of days.
Adan estimated that Marcus Quinn’s daily earnings wouldn’t be less than 1,500, so she considered buying clothes for Marcus.
Marcus Quinn’s baggage contained pitifully few clothes, some of his vests were so worn that they had frayed edges. Not only did she need to buy clothes for him, but also shoes, and ideally save up some to buy him a mode of transportation. Traveling was inconvenient without it—last time they moved, they even had to borrow a tricycle.
Without realizing it, Adan thought about buying a motorcycle, as Marcus Quinn’s aura just didn’t suit a small four-wheeled car. A wild, flashy motorcycle was more in line with his style, although a good motorcycle was certainly expensive.
When Marcus Quinn entered the door carrying things in both hands, he saw the young girl leaning over the writing table in the living room, writing and calculating. Seeing his hands full, she quickly came over to help with the bags.
The man had bought thirty pounds of pig trotters, a black chicken, a four-pound black fish, and also visited a Chinese medicine shop to measure ingredients for the pig trotter marinade as well as herbs like motherwort and cyperus. He spent nearly a thousand yuan, carrying all heavy items, and flashed a bright smile, showing off his white teeth, saying in a low voice, "You don’t need to take them; I’m all sweaty, don’t get too close to me."
Adan watched as Marcus took the pig trotters and other groceries into the kitchen and then went to take a shower.
While Marcus Quinn showered, Adan soaked the black chicken in water. Beyond that, she was entirely clueless about what else to do. Over her twenty-something years of life, she had never been involved in cooking at all.
Because of all the work and sweating, Marcus Quinn sometimes had to shower several times a day. After refreshing himself, he then came out to cook. Seeing Adan fumbling in the kitchen after soaking the black chicken, her helpless expression made the corners of his lips slightly lift.
A rough guy like him, accustomed to working, wasn’t planning to teach her cooking skills; he preferred her to stay as his little fairy all along.
